In recent years, the practice of using "shimenawa" has been gaining popularity, thanks to the promotion and sharing by many flower shops and floral artists. But what exactly is "shimenawa"? This tradition originates from Japan and is part of the New Year decorations.
In Japan, there are three major New Year decoration customs: the "kadomatsu" to welcome the gods, the "shimenawa" to ward off evil spirits, and the "kagami mochi" offered to the deity of the year. In Taiwan, "shimenawa" is often adorned with various dried flowers, creating beautiful and long-lasting decorations that have been widely embraced by the Taiwanese people.
For this floral arrangement, I decided not to decorate with the traditional "shimenawa" but instead incorporated the themes of "pines" and the "shimenawa" into my work. I hope you will appreciate this unique interpretation of New Year floral art!
