Checking out La Foixarda climbing tunnel in Barcelona. Thank you to Manuel Sanchez Panera and everyone else who helped create this amazing space! What a gem!
Oh nice! My climbing gym is the one just next to the Tunnel (Literally 50m from the tunnel), most holds in the tunnel are old because those are the old holds that they don't use in the climbing gym anymore
That route tells the story of the king of Spain/Spanish royalty. For example, the elephant hold represents a time when he killed an elephant in Africa while hunting and an infamous photo of him next to his kill surfaced. Ppl were not happy about that. A local told me what a bunch of the holds on the route represent exactly but I forgot it all. Basically, it boils down to a strong dislike for royalty and their decisions.
Yes!!! He went on a hunting trip to Africa while regular spanish people where suffering a lot from a financial crisis. The part where it says “Korina virus” is a pun between the names of one of his mistresses (Korina) and, of course, COVID-19. I also saw a hold with red, yellow and purple stripes which is the flag that was used on the Spanish second republic (1931-1936). The huge penis that says “x k no te callas” is there because there is a pretty famous video of the King shouting on an international reunion “por qué no te callas” to Hugo Chávez, the frase meaning “why don’t you shut up” and the fact that it is a penis Im pretty sure it’s because he was being a d*ck. There’s also a black credit card that says “ta to pagao” meaning “everything is paid” because there was a big scandal involving several people of the royal family because the king issued those black credit card without limit. The jail bars are because there has been cases of royal family in jail mainly for fraud. Also the king has been living in Saudi Arabia just running from Spanish justice for some years now. Also, the name of the route is “Borbonia” because the royal family name is “Borbón”, they are the “Borbones”. I know I’ll be missing some stuff I couldn’t pick up from the video, but I had never seen that wall this was great to see as a Spaniard.
Other holds stories: - Borbonia (the plaque with the name) would translate as "Borbonland", where Borbon is the house of the king. - The Korina virus is a word game between corona virus and Corinna Larssen. The king had an affair with her, and he paid her to keep it a secret. - The credit cards refer to what here in Spain the media called "tarjetas black" (or "black cards"), opaque credit cards that bank counselors used to pay dinners and parties, and that were also used by part of the royal family. - The dick says "xk no te callas?", which translates as "why don't you shut up?". The king said this to Hugo Chavez (ex prime minister of Venezuela) in an ibero-american summit when Chavez was interrupting the prime minister of Spain. - The jail says something along the lines of "freedom of expression", probably refering to two puppeteers who had to go to court because they made a satirical puppet show in Madrid in which one was dressed as Osama Bin-Laden and said "Gora Alka-ETA", ("Long live Alka-ETA", ETA being a terrorist band from northern Spain). It may also refer to the fact that the crown has famously repressed critics against it, e.g. the satirical magazine "El Jueves" and the rapper Pablo Hasel. - The syringe probably just refers to the vaccines. - There is a sign pointing to Botswana, which is where the king famously went to hunt elephants. Actually the picture of him hunting transcended only because he happened to break his hip while hunting, and the only thing he said was "I'm sorry, it won't happen again". Sorry for the long comment :)
Oh, that's fantastic! Thanks for sharing, please shoot more videos about such unusual climbing spots and tell us about them with your great sense of humor!
Wow... thats neat. My Gym membership is like.. 120 usd a month. Which, for me is totallllyy worth is, I love my gym but it would be cool to have an ourdoor place like this somewhere free to the public. Seeing that dude on the wall though with no spot and no crash pad definatly was a lil uhh... concerning. - Thanks for sharing
@@hormones9710this is pretty standard in the US. My local gym has $110 for a monthly membership but that drops to $85/month if you get a yearly. However, prices have just gone up again because of inflation. Most gyms in my state are around the same monthly price. There are student and military discounts in some places, but most won’t qualify for either. Any cheaper gyms are too far away to be worth the membership.
quick question...for sport and trad climbing, how do you get the final carrabina/protection piece once youre at the bottom of the wall? like once the second person has ascended, got all the other connections then theres that last one which they descend on - how do you get that back?? EDIT: i see in the vid that the routes you did had pre-placed final connections, but do all routes have those?
Hey, for sport climbing, there are usually one or more ring at the anchor (these should be soft rings, adapted to direct rope contact). Once you reach the top, you have to do some special handling by which you pass the rope through the ring itself , to do so usually you make a second knot on a part of the rope that you pass through the rings by folding the rope, and later untie the first knot with which you climbed. Then you can safely remove the gear and go down on this ring that stay on the wall.
this is such a cool place, on my bucketlist for sure. i was just wondering how you would clean your own draws off this? looks harder than the route unless you bring a ladder
You’re from Costa Rica? I’ll be going there on a climbing trip in December. Not a lot of climbing, so it would be cool to climb some of those strangler figs
honestly making more urban spots into climbing spots is cool and all, in this tunnel i do not see an issue with it and doubt i ever see an issue in an urban place, but if screwing holds into the wall can ruin another route i see an issue with it, but othervise like here it is pretty cool
I had the chance to try some urban climbing in Sevilla under the bridge for the highway, definetly not as artistic though. check puente del alamillo if you go there. ;)
I don’t wanna be that guy, but at 3:27, the draw’s going in the wrong way, right? (I have the same ones!!) In what situation would one want to swap the orientation like this?
Outdoor climbers tend to not look at that anymore at some point. I feel you, but its like that its funny all experienced people do all these things you learn not to do as a beginner. I’m a bit a fault as well 😮
You're right, if one was inverted like this accidentally on occasion it wouldn't be a huge deal, but as a norm it's definitely wrong. I personally could only see myself doing this if i was really desperate to clip

nevertheless they are still top for climbing 😎
@@VAN_production.mp4 they are actually great for a kick session for free
@@jordi95 agree! :) wish we could have something like this.

Yep. Catalonians , mostly nationalist independentist ones, have in their cultural state of mind a well adoctrinated hate to the spanish crown.

Will do!! Keep an eye out for the next video🙃
In Sevilla, there is also a big car bridge with holds mounted and it’s also free! Huge overhang routes, starting with 6c+. It’s a cool place
ooo I'll have to check it out!
Really! What a route! What a place! 🎉
Love your content, great work

Dude, this thing would be sick to boulder!! Still a nice vid and a sweet climbing spot for sure 😉
Right! Thanks for tuning in!
I didn't know about this but understood the cultural context of the theme, which made it double hilarious.
This looks sooooo cool. How fun.
Ive seen this place in picture but now I just wanna go there even more
Very cool!

Are there any crags nearby?
Would LOVE to have more free climbing spots accessible to people. Gym memberships are definitely expensive
I'm not a climber but that is pretty awesome, and even though I don't climb If I was there I would have to try lol. Much love ❤️ 🙏
Cheers! Thanks for watching
great video! lovely spot! 5:00 was..
haha right!
You need to visit switzerland. There is a bridge called pont de perolle with many routes a and even three multipitches
Been there also, great place!

appreciate that u mention you are in Catalonia.
Yeah to make it more specific, Spain is too general, dont throw your passport yet
C'est genial ! 🧗🧗🧗🧗
La verdad!
I’ve been there, it’s so nice 👍🏽
COOL!!
like "getting over it" game irl
Legit what I was talking about for where I was at!!!
Whoa!
You know its a good day when Noah uploads!
Hey cheers!
Really great video. One note, beware of trusting a single bolt when you’re high up (I.e. finishing the top rope)
this is such a cool place, on my bucketlist for sure. i was just wondering how you would clean your own draws off this? looks harder than the route unless you bring a ladder
haha cleaning is hard - just top rope it and clean it
Have exactly the same question, as I remember myself, struggling with cleaning the steep overhand route.. Pumpy nightmare...
what material are these holds made in? any idea?
❤
wait how do you get ur quick draws back from that traverse 0_0
How do you even take the QuickDraws back

Yup! I'll be there in december too!
Hahaha I thought I recognised you. 😂 I was the Australian guy you talked to in there.
haha so glad the internet re-connected us then!
Lets goo Costa Rica mentioned! Hope to see you at the next Monkey Fest Noah!
Yeah dude I'll be there! See you in February

oo I might have to!
How the hell do you clean that route 🤔
second cleans
Hey man, just one question, what belay device was that? Regular GriGri? Maybe it was the belayer being good but that looked smooth
How do you clean the route from quickdraws?
Climb it again on top rope
I hope someday ..i Will come to America ..i want to meet and i hope we are climbing trees together...

Actually more concerned by the one at around 5:40, which is definitely clipped the wrong way.
Outside of the uniqueness and novelty, is it sincerely good climbing? At the very least, it's a free climbing gym and rad art installation, right?
I thought it was pretty good training!
People will do anything but climb cracks
I will for sure climb cracks
Guys .. when you climbing trees again ❓ ..
Soon! Here in Costa Rica right now
In Australia, you'd be charged for doing this. There would be no legal way to get it approved.☹️
Getting it to become legal is definitely a challenge!
Sir please come to India Some day and climb Indian ⛰️.
One day!!
nice
If I hear greasy holds, than: no thanks. But still a nice place, thanks for sharing
