Flying to the Philippines from UK on Monday with my fender ultra strat and family. Gonna try this method. I have been fretting about how to get my guitar there safely for ages.

Duncan at the bridge? (Nice build!) tip,
I tape screws together and put them in the bag. Tape is a players friend!

With cheap but perfectly playable Squire Strat guitars available almost anywhere for just a few dollars I would be very tempted to just unscrew the pick guard and take the really important bit - the pickups and tone/volume pots and electronics with me ? Re-instate the original set up after the show and raffle the guitar as used by yourself and really make some kids day. Just a thought ?

John North Could be an option. But I'm lazy, and this way seems easier 😀

I'm not exactly sure yet, but I think it will probably be about a month or so.

Hey, on that custom Strat, were they able to get/use the Dunlop 6000 fret wire? I've found that no luthiers/builders want to use it. lol. Also, any reason you guys went with a late 60's design? That body-side truss adjustment sucks. I guess you can look at like this... You gotta loosen the neck to adjust the truss rod, so what will it hurt to loosen it to fly? I would imagine the neck threads and neck pocket will eventually get waller'd out? Would take years, but still. Later. Cool channel.

      Hank Coffey Thanks man 😊
We basically just copied one of my Yngwie strats. Can't remember the fret type, but then again it's scalloped so it's not as important as on a regular neck.

I just saw a pic from IA's IG-account. His guitar got badly hurt flying with Lufthansa. Goes to show what a useful hack this is.

Tuomo Tikkanen Yeah, flying can be a bitch...

Elmo Karjalainen If I might add a clause to this hack I'd recommend you release the strings differently. E and e first. Then b and a. Finally the two in the middle. This due to the tensionaspects. When you take off strings from top to bottom (or backwards) you allow for the tension to implicate your neck. I looked at a strat yesterday that came with that problem. In that case they flatted the upper fretboard with the result being the dots getting shady. Newer Jems can sustain eventhough tension varies due to their improved necks with two (dragstänger, don't know the English word for it 🙈). But considering the softer wood that Fender uses I feel It's a fairly strong piece of knowledge.

Tuomo Tikkanen Hadn't thought of that. Good point.

Dragstång=truss rod. To think that I actually kept thinking of this and not just Google it. 😁😎
