Damn I loved this reaction! Couple of infos to the song and also the band: Like you said the band has been around for a bit. They are one of the biggest rock bands on Japan and also tour around the world even pre covid. What stands out with this band is their amazing stage presence and ability to perform live. If you want to check them out either on your own or in future videos I always recommend to either check out the live performances right away or at least check out both live and studio as the studio versions just cant compete with them live. The song "We are" was written for 18 fes an annual celebration for young japanese turning adult. The lyrics are about young adults facing the pressure of society now that they are mature. They are expected to fit in and stop being "childish", young and free. The song tries to give these young adults hope that they will endure this pressure and still be themselfs and try not the be put down. There is actually a performance of them on UA-cam "We are - 18 fes" where One Ok Rock performs together with 1000 handpicked young japanese that just turned 18. The performance is quite emotional as you can see how much this song and the message behind it means to these young japanese and you can see tears and joy in the video. I hope you will check out more of OOR in the future!
actually this 18 fes was actually cuz of how Japan's adult age were 20 (it was lowered to 18 in 2022 april 1th) so at the time of this and reason for this song was cuz for japanese were basicly still a minor but also an adult, so in a form of limbo, where as it was kinda like :yea ya an adult now, but in reality you're not a REAL adult until age 20: so that was the reason behind the song and why the lyrics --They think that we're no one, We're nothing, not sorry" refers to how it had been normalized that they expect the adult responsibilities, but still act like ya a minor. --When you're standing on the edge So young and hopeless Got demons in your head We are, we are No ground beneath your feet Now here to hold you"-- also kinda a reference as to how the expectations of an adult, but havent been prepared properbly by the -adults- around them and feeling hopeless cuz they were seen as -younglings- without experince and such
They're actually touring right now with both MUSE and Evanescence. They've been Japan's biggest export for 10 years now, qnd have started way back in 2005.
Thanks so much for your reaction! Loved it, and love one OK rock… They’re actually currently on tour in North America opening for Evanescence and Muse! They also just finished their North American tour late last year. Yes, you’re right they are one of the biggest bands in Japan, but are still trying to make their way in the international market. If you are a metalhead, I’d recommend checking out. Some thing may be a little heavier next. Perhaps the song deeper deeper from their live performance in Yokohama, or the song cry out. Looking forward to following you guys along this one OK rock journey. …
the japanese part in the first part of the song @ 2:23 is loosely translated to, "The dream ends when I woke up My despair and hopes also woke up at that time I asked my reflection in the mirror Does my life have a meaning when I lie to myself?" Hope this gives you a better understanding since the song was mainly in english
They have been around for a while now. Since 2005. Their earliest music is a little more heavier. The lead singer is Taka the guitarist is Toru the base is Riota and the drummer is Tomoya. They are big in Japan. They have a few covers from Adele that I would recommend reacting to. But some of their earlier music is really good. Another fun fact of the song you just heard . It was the last song of the concert that started almost 2 hours late because taka was sick. That's how good they are. Thank you for reacting to them they deserve to be known world wide. ❤❤
There is an all English version of this song but this particular video that you watched is the Japanese version. Nowadays, most of their “Japanese versions” are mostly English with only a couple lines of Japanese mixed in.
Really thank you for this reaction, I hope you listen to their other songs and enjoy with it I really like their music and I'm glad that more people get to know them and finally your relationship is so adorable
Dears, thank you so much for this reaction, I loved it. I'd suggest you to take one step ahead, checking also these songs from One Ok Rock: 1. The begginning (MV or live) 2. Stand out fit in (live version) 3. Renegades (MV). These are samples of different albuns. The last one belongs to the most recent album of the band, "Luxury disease", launched last September. But there is a lot more... hope you enjoy!
If you know the story behind the song you'll bawl your heart of:-) I think it was 2016, Japan was changing the voting age from 21 to 18, so in celebration they asked One Ok Rock to write a song for the occasion. The band held a contest asking all going artists who were turning voting age that year to send in a video of their art, and from those videos they world select 300(?) 18 year olds to come join them in shooting a live video (that video is also available on UA-cam) of the song they wrote. So they selected the 300 artists, guy them together for a couple of days to practice the arrangement, then went into a small concert hall with them same recorded the song live ... The results are one of the most emotional experiences you can watch on UA-cam, especially if you know the story behind it.
Great reaction!! All I can say is I hope you keep reacting to this incredible band!!! Best band out there 😀 By the way, the band recently did their North American tour at small venues and I saw their show in my city and it was amazing. They currently just finished touring with Muse in Canada and Japan, so I’d say they are growing steadily in the west.
Loved your reaction and the discovery of OOR. They quickl ybecame my most listened to band on spotify when i found them. Save yourself has such a good m/v from the newest album. I love your take on how theres so much to discover. Since I started listening to a few kpop groups, kbands and jrock bands its definitely been an eye opener. So much to discover. My playlist currently is 50% Stray Kids, Ateez and One OK Rock, and 50% pop punk/alternative 😂
I have found a lot of new music that I love lately, my personal playlist is a lot of Deftones and Radiohead for art. Lot's of 80's thrash and a huge chunk of Pink Floyd. There really isn't any genre that I haven't found some joy in.
@@jimmysrandom The new album "Luxury Disease" (It's on Spotify) is HEAVILY 80's Influenced. You should ABSOLUTELY listen to "Your Tears Are Mine" if you want that 80's power ballad feel.
For some other direction of music, try the "Thriller" cover of the trio "Dirty Loops" (ua-cam.com/video/m34byl2BT1o/v-deo.html). Your wife an you will be surprised.
ALWAYS TRY TO FIND MV WITH SUBTITLES. EVEN LOVEBITES IS MUCH BETTER WITH SUBTITLES. ALL JAPANESE ROCK AND METAL BANDS ARE MUCH BETTER WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES. YOU GET TO PAUSE MORE OFTEN TO READ AND DISCUSS. PERFECTLY FINE TO REWIND. CAN'T GET BLOCKED OR GET STRIKES. MUCH BETTER TO PAUSE AND DISCUSS IN MY OPINION.
love One Ok Rock...since you're checking out Asian artists, can you check out BTS?.. I had a lot of prejudice before towards them, but after finally looking into their music, damn they are also deep.. they have pop songs yes, but a lot of their songs are also rooted in hiphop. They have songs about mental health, societal expectations, reaching for your dreams, they have songs based on psychologist Carl Jung's theories, an album inspired by a book by Pulitzer winner Herman Hesse, and so much more..
@@jimmysrandom oh cool! is she Army then? how about u? Have u listened or watched any? haha. Maybe u can ask her suggestions. It's okay if that's not something you want to look at right now. kindly pass my purple hello to your wife. :)
