- Nintendo has been one of the best developers. But even they could not fix this simple 3D Problem.
Videogames in the 90's like Tekken 1, Virtua Fighter, and Mario 64 shared a common issue. They were built in a way that you could see the divisions. The good news were that even great studios like Pixar at the time had to deal with similar problems. 3D Animation was fairly new so It was challenging for everybody. In this video I talk about those issues.

Ironically enough Mario 64 had the ability to skin meshes, and in some cases used them where not necessary, or really inefficiently (such as the water striders)
Check out the channel of KazeEmanuar, who's been doing a lot of optimizing and custom work on Mario 64 and has improved performance by orders of magnitude in some cases.
