This is an accessible and fresh work for treble choirs on the themes of peace and hope. Approachable vocal lines and a supportive accompaniment make this appropriate for young treble choirs, while the rich and universal text will also work for high school, college, and community groups.
Where the Light Begins
Perhaps it does not begin.
Perhaps it is always.
Perhaps it takes
a lifetime
to open our eyes,
to learn to see
what has forever
shimmered in front of us-
the luminous line
of the map
in the dark
the vigil flame
in the house
of the heart
the love
so searing
we cannot keep
from singing,
from crying out
in testimony
and praise.
Perhaps this day
will be the mountain
over which
the dawn breaks.
Perhaps we
will turn our face
toward it,
toward what has been
always.
Perhaps
our eyes
will finally open
in ancient recognition,
willingly dazzled,
illuminated at last.

This is my favorite song that I sang today for my last all district concert. I am a senior, I was cheated out of participating in another two years of all district choir in Virginia. I cried today after all the concerts were over, I hugged my director and got a picture with him and the rest of my choir. I’m still so emotional about it and I still can’t believe that today I performed with my last district choir. I wanted to try out for all state, but I was cheated out of that by my own school director. I wish I could go back and change things, but I’m glad I enjoyed it this year. The one piece of advice I have for younger musicians, have fun and make friends. Enjoy the music when it sounds so heavenly in the room. I love all of the people that I’ve spent time with during all districts, those days are absolutely BY FAR my favorite days of my life.🥹🥹❤️

This is genuinely the best song I've ever sung in chorus. And that's since when I was 6 years old. This is gonna be one of those songs that's gonna be stuck in my head for a good long time.
favorite song i've ever heard in choir. I get to preform this at our schools christmas concert. as a soprano 2 it's kind of difficult considering i was taken out of choir during last year and all summer not singing
We're singing this for a "competition" at kings island this year, and I'm so excited! I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, it's absolutely beautiful. it was an idea for a song to sing last year but in the end was turned down, so we're singing it this year. I get to sing soprano 1 which is a crazy difference for me considering last year I was an alto😅
My little brother's middle school choir did this for a Christmas concert this year. So lovely. The part at 0:37 got me:
