I'd add, 'Wire in the blood', 'Waking the Dead ', 'Silent witness' and Jeremy Brett's 'Sherlock Holmes' as well. You need a Top 15 for Brit Crime Drama, at least.
How are Ripper Street and Whitechapel not on this list??? Also Peaky Blinders isn't really a cop show. It's more a UK's Sons of Anarchy/Boardwalk Empire hybrid
That's exactly what I thought when I saw Peaky Blinders in on there?! Chest Campbell was hardly a good guy you could root for! I was surprised to not see The Bill as well?! That show was huge in its day, and for once it showed the work of uniformed cops as well as detectives.
+Tomy Roe Absolutely agree! I didn't really have any expectations at first - but I like David Tennant and was really bored, so i decided to give it a try and was instantly hooked. Great Series.
+MisterLuba Exact same story, I was so bored I clicked on whatever seemed good that had David Tennant, and I watched the first three episodes. So Good!
How dare you not not include the classic 1984 Sherlock Holmes tv series by ITV Granada, starring Jeremy Brett as the best version of the titular character!!!!!
I seriously wish that comment got more likes. Instead most of the Sherlock comments are of how scandalized people are of its current ranking and that it should be no.1 Brett's adaptation is just classic and better. I think I just have this bias towards anything that Moffat touches and the later episodes were alright but not as great as those from the first season. I definitely agree that the original adaptation needed to be included on this list.
The Bill and Rosemary And Thyme deserved at least mentions. My mum raised me on all the crime she could, and they were two that really stuck out for me. Also, there was a four-part series called The Red Dahlia, which I thoroughly recommend.
I've just said the exact same thing about The Bill! How isn't DCI Jack Burnside among all these other famous detectives?! And, how could they miss off Silent Witness?!
Seriously The Fall is brilliant! I binge watched the first two seasons in two days! I can't wait for the 3rd season. Also, Broadchurch should be more than an honourable mention in my opinion, that show is one of the best dramas I've seen in a long time.
Luther. Hands down, the best British Crime Drama I've ever seen. I'd even put it up there right next to the Wire. I don't care what anyone says, it's that fucking good
@@TheDoctorwho747 All the episodes are available on UA-cam. Although the quality of the videos are kinda mediocre. Well, something better than nothing, I guess!
@@wherepostrockdwells oh shit your right they are! I see that the ones that work arent full screen and like you said not the best quality but not so unwatchable and worth it being able to watch the rest of it, thank you for telling me about it I never thought to look. Lol
+WatchMojo.com nonsense, what is weird is to see Jamie Dornan strangling someone to death in one show, then strangling someone for pleasure in theaters....creeped me out!
Shame there's no honorable mention for Hustle, it's a criminally underrated (see what I need there) show about con artists and it really glamorizes living in London. It's one of my favourite shows of all time and I never hear anyone mention it :(
Life On Mars and Ashes to Ashes are my favourite British programmes from any genre. They were just so different from every other police drama out there, the acting and characters were great and it a gave perspective to how much the UK has changed since the 70s.
You guy's need to do a part two on this! There is no denial in saying that they probably have and still produce the best Crime Television in the whole world. There are so many TV Shows that are incredible and could still make the list (Life On Mars, Whitechapel, The Bill, State of Play, maybe more than just a honorable mention for Broadchurch...)
a touch of frost will always be my favourite crime show it really went into depth about gritty detective crime and david jason nailed frost i could not of seen any other actor play that character off more better than him
+Victor Gleizer the first two seasons are on Netflix, I think that the third season is going on in England at the moment. Wonderful show highly recommend.
+Cabe 2939 Season 3 is supposed to be coming out in April, but that may well be a little optimistic? Either way, when it comes out, US fans should download BBC iPlayer (if you can) and you'll be able to watch it on catch up etc.
john thaw (inspector Morse) was in a great cop show from the 1970s called "the Sweeney" I can't believe they didn't mention it. all the episodes are on youtube

Endeavour should be on list and broadchurch and death in paradise should have a place as well as Sherlock being higher up on the list and what happened to new tricks 😂
Maybe it was never shown in the US, like most of these probably have been? Massive shame the likes of The Bill and Silent Witness weren't even in the honourable mentions?!
+XGcunningham Yeah that's true. I know they have remade things like Life on Mars, Shameless and even Red Dwarf, but all apparently bombed bug style. Actually, that reminds me! Why the Hell are Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes not on here?!
Bloody hell. Where is "Wire In The Blood?" One of the best Crime Shows ever. What's worse. It's not even in the honourably mentioned list. Bloody shocking I tell you. :D
Fun fact: Carlton Television was the company behind Inspector Morse, that company would later takeover the ITV London Weekday franchise in 1993 from Thames (which is now a Fremantlemedia subsidiary as a production company) and later merged with Granada to form ITV plc a decade later.
Where was the original Life On Mars (and its follow-up: Ashes To Ashes)? Where was The Sweeney? Where was Z Cars (and its follow-ups: Softly, Softly; and Softly, Softly: Task Force)? Where was Dixon of Dock Green? Where was The Bill? Where was Heartbeat? Where was Rebus?
Silent Witness, Waking the Dead, Lewis, Endeavour, Trial and Retrubution, Shetland, Father Brown, Granchester, Whitechapel, RIPPER STREET (which, in my opinion, is FAR FAR better overall than Sherlock which sold out big time), Rosemary & Thyme, Jonathan Creek are a few of my other favourites. Also, the Australian series The Doctorr Blake Mysteries is one of the most excellent TV series with the best musical score I have watched in ages!
British television is just so many miles ahead of anywhere else. Love me some British mysteries. Luther and Foyle's War would've been higher on my list and I think the show Whitechapel deserves a mention but I was happy to see a classic like Inspector Morse so high.
Some korean shows are better than British detective tclv shows like mouse, voice ,signal ,beyond evil .telling you with my experience with different nation's shows
I personally enjoy any well made crime drama and watch all the shows listed here. I do find it odd though that 'Silent Witness' failed to get a mention! What about River? River was AMAZING
completely agree!!!
River was astounding and a really brave piece of TV.
Sherlock better be number one
Rachel Holmes welp, it's watchmojo didn't expect much...
1. Sherlock
2. Luther
3. Life on mars

How the hell is Luther 8? It’s a masterpiece! It should be 1!
you have to add in there Endeavour, Inspector Morse early years, Lewis, post Morse, Blue Murder, and without a doubt Vera. Each one of those has to be on the list.

Where's Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes?
Sherlock (Series) With Benedict Cumberbatch & Cindy Kimberly With Megan Fox
Life on Mars? Ashes to Ashes?
You lost me with Poirot at #7, way too low!

Although, is Peaky Blinders really a Crime show? It's about old Birmingham gang members, not solving crimes? Idk, I'm not knocking it, I like the show...
still a crime show.
DL and Pascoe definitely needs to be on list.
ITV's Whitechapel is amazing with its dark comedy, cast chemistry and interesting take on historical murders! Shame it was not on the list.
Inspector Morse is unforgettable. ...loved this serie...

A very tough top 10 and honorable mention list but no complaints here. A couple of personal favorites are Waking the Dead and Wire in the Blood.
