Thanks Jonathan. Nice, clear and concise. Confirms what I understood which is a relief. I didn’t know about the profile curves vs device curve though. So must remember that point
Jonathan. Thank you. Explained in logical progression. Slow enough speech to be able to understand. Placed this video into my Sim favourites so I can watch again. As you said 'Good innit'. This is why I have you subscribed.
When clicking the cog. In the left column, you get all the chosen thingy's buttons. So if the thingy you have don't want to map the right button. You can go there and assign a button manually.
Setting up th controls isnt that hard imo. But holy cow, finding some of the binding names is insane. They didnt use logical names all of the time. Especially for the camera controls. There are so so many and some of them have almost the same name, but do very different things. Took me 20 minutes to find the binding for how to use the avatar as well.
Thank you so much for the video. I found that you are extremely articulate and have a knack for explaining things clearly. What I’m not clear on is the difference between ‘Apply to all aircraft’ versus ‘set as default’. I’m not sure if they’re intended to be used for all airplanes in that class or all aircraft across the sim. 😊
Remember that msfs2024 will remember which profile you have used while using a given aircraft? If you choose "apply to all aircraft" on a profile, it will make that profile the default when you step into other aircraft too. I can't imagine why you would do that, but that's what it's there for.
@Thank you. I understood that also. I’m just confused as to why Asobo had to implicitly include those 2 settings within the profile? I believe it’s not as as intuitive to the end user. Maybe it’s just me. 😀
Thank you SO very much for this! Concise and well explained! I've been going completely mad trying to gain a grasp of the deep changes in seemingly ALL of the bindings, and MS/ASOBO's complete lack of guidance -- and what seems to me to be utterly unintuitive structure/labels. You have brought some LOGIC to the discussion, and I am grateful! :)
Hi Jonathan, this is by far the best description and tutorial about the managing of controls, and profiles I have come across. So far the frustration of not being able to get trimming sorted for pitch is driving me mad. I am a retired glider pilot with over 500 solo hours and not being able to trim to speed, takeoff, landing and continuous turns goes so far against my airmanship. All I want is to add nose up, nose down to the hat switch on my TCA side stick for GA and Gliders.
Thank you Jonathan, great insights into this system. I am having an impossible time mapping reverse thrust with the thrustmaster quadrant on the cessna grand caravan.
Yep can't move mouse in plane it just skits out also can't map some buttons on Hotas and Bristol n Coningsby are my go to airports but the add ons ain't there. 2020 tho has never looked better now alot of PCs are off server especially with third party trees , runways etc so I'll have another look at 24 next year sometime.
Are you using Xbox controller mouse function? Because if so, you need to plug in a real mouse into your Xbox. On Series X there are two extra USB sockets in the back of the console. Xbox controller mouse function sucks. I figured that out 5 minutes after I installed 2020 upon release.
@ no. I’m using mouse and keyboard both of which had no problems in 2020. the keyboard works, the mouse just goes crazy whether outside or in cockpit. I tried changing some settings for the mouse but none of them had any effect.
@stefanblackadder5236 well that sucks to know. I havent been home since 24 release. But from what I've seen. I think I'm just gonna hold short on 24 untill they get some bugs worked out. 2020 was a mess at release too. But then again what game or sim isn't upon release. The UI needs some work for sure.
OML I wish I'd had this video a week ago, it would have spared me so much hair tearing, and stopped me having nearly as many profiles with 4 letter names 🤣
Hi Jonathan. Thanks for another great video. I have the same throttle quadrant as you but on msfs2020 I used it briefly with the Cessna but didn’t like it when the throttle went into the notch when I wanted it to stay a bit more or a bit less than in the notch. (Hope you understand what I mean) I ended up reverting back to my Logitech quadrant when flying prop planes and just used the airbus quadrant for well…the airbus. How do you cope with it on the Cessna?
Although it seems like a mess it is actually a better way of doing it in my opinion yes it is different to 2020 but once you get your head around it it is fairly simple to set up.
Yes, it is actually a vast improvement on how the profiles were handled in MSFS2020, which very few of the reviewers (Jonathan being one of the exceptions) have appreciated. Once we have the profiles set up correctly as we want them, we won’t have to think - is this the right profile for this aircraft? and often have to change profile before flying a different plane. Asobo have taken onboard the criticism of 2020 (in this respect) and given us a logical and valuable alternative. Thanks for pointing this out Jonathan.
Love your programs Jonathon. The opening shot of this video started with a shot of the door on the 172 I hoped you were going get in because I can’t now. Using shift-c to get close to the door and open it the program then zooms back out. This never happened the first time I ran it the day after launch the cam went straight into cockpit as 2020 did.
You're in the external view :) CTRL+C switches between walk-around and normal mode. Normal mode can be internal or external - press BACKSPACE to toggle. The sim remembers where you last were :)
Very nice. Your video will be used a lot more than you probably will ever know. I for one will certainly be using it. At age 83 I need all the help I can get. I made it through 2020 and VR so I am sure I'll get past this too. I am the "Digital Traveler" MS is now talking about. I love to use my Pimax Crystal to explore the POI's of World Updates, and custom airports. And I have been "walking around" in GEVR for 8 years now. I hope they add gondola cars and ski lifts. They should also try to buy into Google's 360 degree photo library. That would be huge.
Jon sorry another Q, cameras: custom set ups when you set up a custom view 01 say for the EFB in the C172. When you then load in the SR22 does the custom view 01 still apply to the SR22 or can I use custom 01 again without it affecting the C172. Phew hope that’s an understandable Q.
The profile (the mapping of the keys) controls what the keyboard does in terms of saving and loading into the 10 "custom views" - I didn't explain it well in the other video about views. The simulator will save your configured views for the aeroplane - you don't need different keyboard profiles for each plane.
Transversal is one of the default keyboard profiles. There is a set of 2024 key mappings, and a set of 2020 key mappings. You quickly find out that if you revert to the 2020 keyboard mappings, you're missing lots of keys for 2024 specific functions - which was my trigger to forget everything about 2020 and just go with the "new world".
Have you had any luck configuring reverse thrust on the generic A321 (inisbuilds) that comes with MSFS2024? I've tried calibrating it with the tablet in the cockpit and all the detents line up for the Airbus throttles (thrustmaster), but I will not recognize reverse thrust... Guessing I need to change something in the settings you outlined above???
Hi Jonathan i have the same hardware as you i am really having trouble with the two engines profile i was wondering if you could share your bindings for GA and Airliners i would be very grateful if you could ?
Just followed your excellent video on the control settings, I have finally just reconfigured my airbus stick to work it was an uphill battle with actual conflicts when I set the flaps down the camera shot to exterior view, one other item why does the aircraft in this case Cessna 172 drop a wing and start spiralling down when hands off for a few seconds, needs constant correction to keep wings level which is hard work without auto pilot happens all the time have tried different controllers and setting, any ideas would be helpful, have flown irl so I know what is normal.
Yep - you may well end up removing other mappings - thankfully you can search by input, which tells you what is already configured on a given button, letting you delete it :)
You don't make airplane controls. Each function that can be mapped is classified as a general, airplane, or specific function. Therefore you know which profile it is going into.
Hi there. Can you let me know about PMDG 737’s and msfs 2024? I’m on Xbox and they don’t seem to work on 2024?? One of my 737’s is also missing on 2024! Also is simbrief not linked to new system??
On the tca side stick the (red button) auto pilot disconnect setting doesn’t disconnect. I’ve had to set it to autopilot master but this is incorrect in real life. Wonder if this is a bug
how do I make my Saitek yoke less sensetive so it needs more input for pitch and roll. It is a bit twitchy just now. Same goes for Saitek rudder pedals.
I'm having issues as I don't think the bindings are always saving. Is this a known issue? Maybe you have to escape out of the game and change the controls rather then using basic controls from ingame menu?
Make sure you have chosen the right profile before mapping things - otherwise (if you're on the default profile), it will make another profile, and another, and another - e.g. each time you get in a different plane, you'll find it's using the default profile "by default" which doesn't have what you mapped previously.
@jonbeckett yes I'm pretty sure I am. Might be a bug that not all is saving. I also my avionics 1 and 2 switches done seem to work. I have mapped them on the alpha for the 172 but they don't so anything ingame. So frustrating.
I literally explain in the video. General = simulator functions (such as camera views). Airplane = general aircraft functions (such as flaps, gear, etc). Specific = unique things to the aircraft you are using (such as water release, winches, etc)
perhaps you are able to find the reason behind the ability to open the ATC window using the keyboard but no way of closing it except with the mouse. That is a no no for me as I suffer from essential tremor which renders the mouse useless for one handed use.I've looked for a toggle,no toggle,I've looked for a close,no close. This may turn out to be an omission also known as a very rude expletive or bug..................................................
It does work, because I've been using it. I'll do another video on that specific subject. They let you set the any button combination to save a camera setting (10 save mappings), and any button to load a camera setting (10 save mappings). Search for "save custom camera", and "load custom camera" to find them.
All I want to do is erase everything and map everything one by one myself. I spent 10 minutes trying to find out how to make the character walk right. There are settings to walk forward, backward, left but no setting for them to walk right. I thought I was going crazy. Apparently "strafe right" is supposed to be the right setting. So why is there a setting to walk left but none to walk right then. I swear Ai designed parts of this game.
It's really too bad that the control settings seem to be impossible to use without a mouse, at least on Xbox. I can really do *nothing* with it, as the Search box and Search by input button seem difficult to get to and then impossible to get out of to actually do something with the bindings. Nobody at Asobo really tried to even do this on an Xbox, I guess. 😢 Will need to attach a USB hub with a full keyboard and an mouse to even try if I can even do anything with all this crap. Not your fault of course - this video seems very useful to explain something Asobo seems to explain little to nothing about anywhere - but still...
MSFS 2024 sucks. Even when you finally figure out a setting many don't work. And who decided to put that big tablet right in the front window? And once you find out how to get rid of it, you still have a big mount that looks like a big penis sticling through your glass. And of course the Honeycomb throttle unit LED lights don't work again like every upgrade knocks them out. You lpst a lot of customers by releasing this before it was ready.
reimagined? I just want to be able to assign TAB to bring up the toolbar and save that in the new 2024 keyboard. Think that is possible? Nope. It makes you name it as a new profile. So you lose all the movement keys. I hate it so much. edit: hmmm, i need to duplicate it and then make the change. Still seems unnecessarily complicated and annoying.
I think the duplication thing is in case you make a total mess of reassigning stuff? .If you do completely mess it up you can just delete that duplication and start again, whereas if you could change the default and mess it up, there's no going back.
@@Fella-1000 you cannot change the default profiles - so it will always ask for a new profile name if you're not already using a new profile. That way, you ALWAYS have the default profiles to fall back on.
If you would like to buy me a cup of coffee for this, head to Ko-Fi :) ko-fi.com/jonbeckett
To delete an assignment, it works to mouse over the assignment and hit backspace. No need to go into the cog menu.
I think that if you are on 2024 Transversal that doesn't work
Legend thanks!!
@@Topofdescent55 Correct, since that is the default keyboard profile and can not be modified.

It means the same button is mapped on several other functions.
