kind of a late reply but still. The Ibanez got to heavy and he got lots of back pain from it, the musicmans are super light so he changed, but Shawn their rythm guitarist is still using them and Andy also still uses them at home and to record.

Thy art is the only reason i'm saving up for my first 7-string.
Just make sure you get one that has a 27" scale length. I can't tell you how many people think that more strings means you can tune lower. It's about scale length.
Yeah i know what you mean, but of course you can compensate with string gauges.. I mean EBMM JP's have 25-1/2 scale length, and that's kinda my dream guitar lol
While this is true, You get more tonality and clarity out of a thinner gauge across a proper length neck. Meshuggah's stuff wouldn't sound so beefy and clear if they were using 100's on the low F on a 25 1/2" scale neck.
F1337 I've had my Ibanez rga7 for about 7 years it has a 25.5 scale length and I tune to drop A with absolutely no problem
Yes, with no problem. But the scale length isn't proper. A 7+ string with a 25.5 scale length is a budget model.
