I love how Jared got to play OG Henry one last time! Although I think the whole time travel curse twist doesn't really make much sense, this is a great episode that highlights Regina and Henry.
Yes! Rumple being the final villain of OUAT is one of my favorite things about how they wrapped it up. We have our Rumple who has had his ups and downs and growth and he’s great, but we get to enjoy the madness of evil Rumple one more time, just like we began. It’s a nice feeling.
So the show got its cancellation between episodes 10 and 11 but feeling wise they were filming episode 17 when it happened and they were throwing in hints for a potential season 8 but when they got the news from the network that they were being canceled. They ultimately change their end game plans for season 7 and pushed the finale of season 7 a couple episodes back so that they can end the show the way they wanted to end it. Originally episode 20 would have been episode 22 but once they found out they were getting canceled after filming episode 17 they speed it up the plot and abandoned all build ups for season 8. Luckily because they had five more episodes to film they were able to end the show with no cliffhangers and a perfect ending. There are a lot of shows that don't get that opportunity that get canceled after The season's done feeling but once upon time is one of those lucky shows where it got canceled before they finished filming season 7 allowing them to finish the show on a good note. No spoilers but you will see familiar faces in the final two episodes.
The time travel reveal was such a cooooool thing. It made EVERYTHING make sense. Whoever came up with Drizella’s Dark Curse not only being to travel to a new land but in the PAST of said new land made things so much more appealing!! So wild. Bravo. This show really kept with the twist ontop of twists till the very end.
Also FYI: Oct 23 is Once Upon a Time day it's when the series aired 2011 and the show ended on May 18th 2018 which happened to be my birthday. However in case you wanted to know the anniversary of the show there you go. Maybe every October 23rd you can revisit the series and do an anniversary celebration. Off UA-cam screen time you can also rewash the show over and over again and you won't have to say goodbye to ONCE.
This is my favorite episode of Once Upon a Time (even though they killed off my stylish king Facilier 😿). To me Regina and Henry's relationship is the heart of the show and this episode feels like a love letter to that relationship. I also love how Wish Hook fights through the curse to support Alice, and how Alice rejects Gothel but still demonstrates compassion for her despite all the awful things she's done.
I can say that my theory why the curse didn't break last episode because henry wasn't awake. i do believe that it's the perfect way to break the curse. The 2nd dark curse was broken by Regina and Henry and so they had to end with Henry and Regina.
Fun fact: old Henry can't give financial advices to young Henry about the future because he left a few days after the call, for the enchanted forest and returned back in the past before the call, so in that moment he does not know anything about the future in our world

also this season was Henry's story primarily and bringing regina and rumple's arcs to a close so ot makes sense henry had to be the one to break it
