A RADICAL change in the DOWNTOWN of Tegucigalpa

What was once a dark and unpleasant place in the Historic Center of the capital will soon be transformed into a vibrant, safe and colorful space.
The Municipal Mayor's Office of the Central District (AMDC) has taken measures to recover and renovate the emblematic Hoyo de Merriam, located in the center of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Before his intervention, the area was a dark, humid and smelly place, frequented by drug addicts who spent the night in the area and where abandoned mattresses and furniture were found.
After this historic place suffered a fire in recent weeks, the AMDC decided to intervene with the aim of preventing the place from being inhabited by homeless people and restoring its splendor.
Employees hired by AMDC began repair and cleaning work, and work has already been carried out to clear and clean the area.
In the recovery process, workers have removed garbage and objects in poor condition that were in the place, including furniture, mattresses and chairs thrown away by former owners or stolen from garbage dumps.

The site that is known as the Hoyo de Merriam is really an urban development that sought to protect the symbiosis of Plaza Los Dolores and its surroundings, for this they created an underground promenade that prevented Jerez Avenue from “parting” the square, making it disappear. Taking advantage of this underpass, parking lots were designed that would also solve the enormous parking problem in the area, a visionary project that was hindered by the change of building administration and that was ultimately not completed in all its stages.
In the construction process, it began with the demolition of the front street, then excavations were made so that the street crossed below the level of the plaza and the foundations were made for what would be the parking building. When people saw the The enormous scope of the work below ground level meant that they were making a huge hole, and hence the association with the person responsible for the works.
