I'd like to see this test done again closer to the maximum braked towing capacity of all vehicles. I tow over 3 tonnes with a ranger and I feel that it's the best option for that weight. I do agree that it bounces and sways a lot without WDB's though.
You could have included the Nissan and the Mitsubishi in the test as well maybe ? That would have covered most of the popular pick-ups I would think. Would have been interesting to see them all tested together.
Yes, they should have included the Nissan and Mitsubishi as well. I once saw a test in which both the hilux 3.0 CC and Triton 2.4CC pulling a mass of over 500kg. They both did well and both didn't struggle. My point is, "other models should have been included also."
Drive.com.au failed to mention the auto hilux has a lower tow rating then the manual ! Important test you missed completely is , taking off on a steep hill and gravel rd , another win to VW no doubt , i carry near on a ton on the back daily and tow an excavator as well , i know whats needed , the Hilux in the real world doesn't cut it .
toyota add all the way had foot to the floor (hilux)vs amarok plenty of power in reserve. lol and still the best at towing(toyota) how ? if a truck struggles to to tow a trailer unless you put your foot down to the floor i wouldn't say its best at towing vs a truck that does it with no effort
Ford Ranger : 0.85g the medium traction. VW Amarok : 0.85g the medium traction. Holden Colorado : 0.85g the medium traction. Toyota Hilux (Hilux Revo form) : 0.7g the lowest traction. End report about traction. From All their database
Good review, finally a half decent wrap up.Hilarious that you made them drag race with an excavator on the back! Since when does a 'fast' speed matter when your towing? As long as the ute pulls strongly that's all that matters to us in the real world. I know all these utes have 450Nm plus so they're all obviously strong enough to do it easy, thanks for the vid.
Ranger and Colorado fanboys will never understand the difference between the a ute that has more power and a ute that's made to be bulletproof. Hilux=bulletproof, Amarok=best performance and comfort, the other 2 somewhere in between lol
You dont exactly call the Toyota bullet proof... The problems it has with the dpf is unacceptable... Its either smoking like a chimney or sitting in limp mode
@ time of 2.33 you can see how you did a piss poor job of leveling the trailer on the ford so that will not give a real answer on how it handles I am guessing you did not better with the other cars.
hilux is no good. the old 3.0l engine was good because IT was bulletproof, not this new engine. this new engine is a piece of shit. ive driven all but the amarok and i would assume i would take the amarok over them all followed by the colorado. the other two are overrated as buggery. you cant have a car where you say you needed to put the foot to the floor in order to maintain speed and then say its the best tow vehicle. I own what i would say is the best all round ute ever made, the stx 550. yes its a d40 navara, but the only thing that nissan had to do with it was the chassis. the engine and drivetrain was all renault. the 7 speed is desgined for towing. this amarok is not the most powerful ute in its class. look up the stx 550. beats these by a mile.
What a fucking useless test, put 3.5 tone behind them and drive up a steep hill. Anyone who actually wants to tow a big boat (like myself) or big horse floats, race cars on tandem trailers ect, all weigh over 1700kg. Cheers
Bro in all honesty only very few people tow more than that. The excavator it's self is 1.7t but it has the buckets and trailer easily 2t. How it fares with 2t is how it will fare with 3. If the hilux couldn't pull 2t up a hill it's not going to pull 3t

How much Toyota paid this bloke???
This review is brought to you by Toyota...
Drive is editorially independent which means no car company has any say in what we write :)
Bro the Hilux has the stiffest suspension and best trailer control systems so it's
True

Mitsi is a budget option compared to these and not really bought by anyone to tow anything decent. The Navara is just shit.
Another paid Toyota add ! , gets creamed in a towing comparison and still wins ! I call bullshit .
Drive is editorially independent Alex so we don't get any money from Toyota.
Alex Frankl I agree with you. Paid Toyota review...

At times. Not all the time.
As a grey nomad you don't see many Hilux's on the road but plenty of Colorado's and Ranger's.
Ford Ranger : 0.85g the medium traction.
VW Amarok : 0.85g the medium traction.
Holden Colorado : 0.85g the medium traction.
Toyota Hilux (Hilux Revo form) : 0.7g the lowest traction.
End report about traction.

Holden Colorado is the best
Drove them all ...colorado ran best... toyota gutless piece of shit....
Good to see a useful comparison.
They should have mentioned that the Amorok is restricted to 80kph when towing 3 ton + and that a wdh is not recommended by VW.
But if you go over this limit, what happens? Nothing

The Toyota would be fine aslong as you don't need to manoeuvre left to right quickly.
Is all vehicles permanent 4wd or not

I had the Toyota and traded it for the Amarok it was a gutless piece of shit. Rode like a go kart

Hilux all day
Ya boy hulix
Chevy holden is the best.
The most biased review i have ever seen. Old mate probably has friends at Toyota
