Man 700 dollars for a PS3 is insane. Awesome work, though! You've got talent.
Thanks a ton!
Thats how much they were new lol
Got mine $860 brand new, still have the ylod brick lol
@@DabBubbles420 im sorry
@@ConsoleKingRepair it lived a good life up until the factory warranty ran out and then it stopped reading disks so i got one of the new(slim not super) models and let my cousin borrow my digital fat boy but he left it on his shag carpet and fried the motherboard so i think its beyond just a ylod, but over the years ive gotten 5 or 6 more slims, three are my own and i gave the other three to friends and family and still use my main ps3 daily, i painted it and modded it and can play ps1&2 and sega and nintendo (old school) on it so i cant complain, thinking of converting my dead fat boy into a cool pc i just dont have the heart to gut it yet
put some gameplay of the consoles you fix. We know its the same but its always great to see a dead console resurect and straight away play games!
Ill have to do that next time!
One of my favorite things to see is BC ps3s being rescued and restored. Awesome satisfying video.
Love your videos keep them coming and we will love to see temps to see how the systems performs
I’ll make a yt short tomorrow featuring this system. Thanks so much for your support.
The polishing process is exactly the same as some processes in auto detailing. You may get better results using a DA polisher, and following the compound with a polish (meguiars makes one). I wonder if something like a ceramic coat (used on cars) would help to protect or enhance the gloss? But tbh I'm really impressed with the finish you achieved, nice work.
@@HumdrumAnt thanks! I also appreciate the tips. I’ll have to do more research on detailing.
Nice work as always sir
there has to be someone making the transparent shells for ps3 the blue one just like 500 million ps4 special editions
The plastic injection mold cost like 50k? Its VERY expensive to make custom shells. Maybe one day we could manufacture them.
@@ConsoleKingRepair Zac Builds did a clear case for his "I built a MODERN Nintendo 64..." video with resin 3D printing, the whole setup by HeyGears costs around 2.5k bucks, not sure about the size of a PS3 fat shell, alternatively PCBWay offers 3D printing and also some clear stuff, MachoNacho had that.
@@kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381 I’ll have to look and see, maybe it’s economical viable to do.
Really wish you’re located in San Francisco to repair my ps3
😩😩
we take send ins through mail if that interests you!
I bought an e model backwards compatible ps3 a month ago. It turns on and works just fine, the optical drive does not work though, and mine could definitely use some surface restoration. Saving it for a winter project. Btw i paid 10 dollars for it, it even came with a Sony hdmi cable and the rf style tv hookup.
Nice man! Hopefully it keeps working for you.
What he won't tell you is that the rotating platform for the PS3 is sitting on 4 Nintendo Wii's.
STOP!
thanks for your work man, if you got a free time and would like to experience new thing is to reball the 90nm rsx and put it back on board. if the 90 has good reading it should last same as the 40 and 65. some people who have a very good experience trying this said it lasted years. the problem is just bga connection.
Great vid again!
I've got a question about rip felix tantalizers, i've installed them on my ps3 but how do i know if they make a proper contract with the system? i've got a polymeter but i dont know where to set it and what value should showing.
I would just measure resitance, it should show around 2-3 Ohm for each set of Rip Felix tantalizers.
I know this is unrelated to the video but a UA-camr by the name of Tim dark said that you could break or affect the consoles performance if u open it up and repaste it without heating up the heat sink because u put more pressure on the bga is that true?
I haven't had that issue, Maybe if you pull up on it wrong.
the hard thing here is getting a good RSX. Where are you buying them ?
I harvest my own RSXs, I also sell them on my website if that interest you.
By any chance can you make a PS3 A00 region free?
Yes you can actually! CFW allows all games to be played. Only caveat is lack of DVD support for all regions.
@@ConsoleKingRepair is it a service that you provide by any chance?
@@DoomSlayer34-r2u Its fairly simple, all you need to do is install CFW through PS3Toolset.
@@ConsoleKingRepair okay thank you!
this channel is a hidden gem!!!!
bing watching your videos when suddenly you upload a new video lmao
Nice work, that particular board is an 868-22, which is known to be very prone to "popcorning" where the board layers come apart.
That’s why I bake these Japan boards, they popcorn all the time.
@@ConsoleKingRepair is there a way i could avoid popcorn i have a uncommon hart 200a machine for the chip and a 858a or oven for preheating board.thanks
@@ConsoleKingRepair I have an 868-22 in my CECHA12 (Hong Kong), I'm guessing they were pretty much identical to the CECHA00. BTW, what would happen if you installed a 40nm on a CECHA that's on a low firmware (say 2.70 for example), I'm sure it won't work but is there anything you can do? I ask because I have no idea when last my CECHA was updated before it YLOD'ed (bought it last month with YLOD already, errlog says it's a 3034 so dead RSX), and I don't know of any way of checking what firmware it's on without booting it up (which it obviously can't do). I just hope it died after 2011 and the previous owner updated it regularly!
a small detail to add into the video but would be really interesting for me to see is the before and after temperatures. it would add another wow factor to these videos. good job!
I could show the after, YLOD had to be fixed. Thanks for watching!
Another common problem is that factory settings for fan in the launch model doesn't actually keep the console cool enough over time. The fan doesn't kick up until 80°c when the optimal temp should be around 75 - 78°c. Using cfw and webman can help keep the average temps lower. (Disclaimer: cfw can still brick your console. My advice from personal experience is to stay away from using the tools in the network section of xmb as they are not that reliable.)
@@reducedfaticecreamisjustde1447 Especially the B01s, they allowed those to idle at way higher temps.
@ConsoleKingRepair One more thing I will add is make sure your BC PS3 is using an APS 226 psu. It takes less voltage and produces much less heat than the first edition ZSSR (with mostly identical performance) and puts out more power than the 231 under load. Just something to consider.
Excellent work, great to see old consoles restored back to their former glory.
Nice work, I have a stack of BCs with ylod and love watching how this is done. Thinking of getting my own BGA rework machine.
You can't replace an RSX or the CPU they're married to the board they're on. Reballing does nothing
@@miregoji2959on the 4 and 5 yes, on the ps3 no.
This video was just great! Although I play Xbox, and seeing you bringing back a junk $20 PS3 to it's former glory was just amazing!!
DKOldies should learn from you 💯.
Appreciate it!
I appreciate that! 🙂
Hello ppl does anyone know why my ps3 switches on for a minute then switches it's self off and a possible fix ? Thanks
Can you really get the bottom sticker online? I couldn't find one. A new one would be nice.
What type cooling fan do you suggest to keep temps low from your experience? 15 baldes or 19? I have 15 & 19 blades, from my test the 15 blades pushes more air from the right side and 19 blades more from the back side. Also 19 is more quiter at higher speeds.
19 bladed fans are quieter, so i prefer them. They also produce slightly higher CFM.
i wonder if there are alive RSX gpus that is selling🤨🤨
You got mad skills! I've been trying to sand/buff Xbox Original shells with no luck. I may give it another shot after watching your vid
I use pledge on my november 2006 A01 BEAUTIFY IT LEMON ENCHANCING POLISH
id try removing the rubber feet from the bottom of the ps3 when resurfacing it, might make it so its got less of a matte look on the corners where you couldn't reach before.
Yea i noticed that to, Ill do that next time, thanks!
@@ConsoleKingRepair np, look forward to seeing it!
that buff looks incredible! way to preserve everything
nec transisters i ges
Can you do a tutorial on how to install hen ?
And now it’s worth $1000 😁
great content! curious question im sure its been asked before; if i have a super slim and a backwards comp; would it cost less to frankie the og?
If you supply the 40, then it will cost less. Thanks!
How much would you charge for a repair like this?
@@Dohp3 we have prices listed on our website. If you want something like this, just email us with more info about the console.
I still have my 90nm CECHE hanging in there, though I have no way of knowing exactly how long
You never know with these consoles! Hopefully yours can lost awhile longer.
@@ConsoleKingRepairor maybe forever that's why they're the silicon winners
Great video of my favorite console. I read that 65 nm can support CFW, while 40 nm cannot. Do you use 65 nm dies as well. Have you ever used 28 nm in your GPU swap. Have you also tried liquid metal on the dies? I know PS3 is not designed for LM application though. Will be watching your video library.
Ive used 65s and 40s. I cant use 28s. I have liquid metal on my personal frankie. and thanks for watching my library!
@@ConsoleKingRepair Thanks!
Any advice on what to look for when buying a backwards compatible ps3 there's a bunch onlne that only says ylod but they don't give anymore details like for example eBay and I've rarely seen somoe on flea markets or FB marketplace but I honestly don't want to send any garbage ps3 hoping it's fixable and paying everything like the cosole the shipping to be sent and then getting hit with the attempt fee which is reasonable considering all the hard work and dedication you put on your work as seen here any advice?
If you’re trying to find a BC ps3 with YLOD to repair, you’re gonna have to bite the bullet, and just buy one. You’ll never know with these PS3s. I personally ask the seller what’s been done to them, and base my purchase off there response.
@@ConsoleKingRepair thanks for the advice
I would recommend getting a YLOD ps3 that is not cosmetically flawed and getting another working motherboard to install. You can pick them up on websites like Fast Tech for around $200. What you are seeing here is a premium service that is done to preserve the console for much longer and usually costs a few hundred dollars more. The choice is yours though
Are frankenstien ps3s any quieter? 40nm.
Yes! Very much so.
Yes I own one. Mine is very quiet. I also have one with 65nm and its one fan level louder.
Can you post all the equipment your using like dude how you gonna show us how to fix it and not include any equipment list
Like what's that big ass heat gun you using ect
fair question, Ill start posting links to everything i use.
@@ConsoleKingRepairthank you
You didn’t put the ihs back on? Is it not required?
I did, they were on the heatsink still. Sorry for the confusion.
@@ConsoleKingRepair Does the 90nm IHS fit on a 40nm RSX? I would've expected the die to be higher on the 90nm. The RSX you put on must be from a super slim, right?
@@SterkeYerke5555 the 90nm and 40nm IHS are the same, and yea, that’s a super slim 40nm
i love how you can manage to revive PS3s with proper tools and knowledge..but for a person who wants to buy a PS3 and play straight away and didnt know the problems might encounter in the future "YLOD" this would be a complete disaster and traumatic... like ive experienced...already gave up that system long ago....and move on so im fine without having one....
Yea it sucks how often these things fail, thats why i do this!
Clean work, well done. Though it'd be nice to see how you got the 40nm chip compatible with the old rig. IIRC there should be a small work to be done there as well.
we actually only need to do resistor mod, and change some addresses now! I could probably do a little segment in future videos.
Is it possible to remove the RSX chip with just a lead free soldering hot air station, or is the chip just too large and the board to thick to do this without the special BGA stations?
I would say its not possible, if you had a bottom heater you could probably do it.
Hey! Great video! Curious to what BGA rework station you are using?
Three zone BGA station, works great!
you should add some music i the background
I’ll have to try that next video!
Mine starts and has green light but no video.
Yours has GLOD, most likely the RSX
Could also be a bad HDMI...
How much money do you save buying broken ps3 slims instead of already extracted rsx’s
A lot.. 😭
@@ConsoleKingRepair how do you know if the 40nm chip inside those aren't broken? or you just take your chances because broken 40nm chip is less likely to be the reason for slims?
@@teesis I just take my chances, usually slims on eBay have disk drive issues.
@@ConsoleKingRepair do you bother to fix them as well? maybe a future video about disk drives would be cool too, i haven't seen anything about it. Also, it'd be interesting to see having the whole process captured including ripping the heart out of slims in next frank ps3 videos. keep up the good work
Thanks for the great step by step video. I have a few fat PS3 I got from garage sales with YLOD.
I got 3 of them fixed using the heat gun going in circles through the board for a few minutes each section. Was told the proper way would be to use a multimeter to find where the fault is and either fix the solder joint or replace the bad chip.
I do like your oven baking method. Need to go look for a cheap toaster oven at a thrift shop to use just for this.
Он делает не запекание и прогрев как вы, а сушит плату от влаги, перед снятием RSX и высокими температурами. Чтобы плата не сделала эффект попкорна, что часто происходит при таком моде Френки. И сам чип тоже дует.
im surprised by now no ones made 3D Printable versions of the memory card flap n Door.
They have actually! I don’t have a big enough 3d printer to use it just yet.
Very professional work Indeed. And since PS3 fat are all dead for the most...we Need someone with this skill
