Brava, Liza! Thank you, thank you! At first, I didn't know how you would pull this off - a song sung from the POV of a gay man who performs in drag. And you, who have so often been the one whom drag queens portray with such fierce love and power. But you are amazing here. I am deeply moved. Thank you, thank you!
I saw this concert and it was fabulous and her voice was great. I took my family and my nieces fell in love with her. Opinions are opinions and just that. You like Liza or you don't. Liza sang this song when she accepted a LBGT award and since then it has become a staple at her performances. It is not strange - it is a salute to her LBGT followers who are many. Liza has never tried to be her mother - just her herself.
These clips are sensational. This song is hauntingly poetic... I am from Brisbane, Australia and saw her live in November last year. One of the best things I have ever, ever seen. I've longed for the DVD of this concert, though it is not available yet in Oz - so I am feeling very spoiled with your daily additions!!! & will be sad when they run out... :-) x
I was in a trance, it was fabulous :) Australia was ablaze with excitement when she came here, that's for sure. The Riverside Theatre in Perth was packed! There were hundreds of people there. When Liza said she loved us and that we're her family now since her parents died I nearly cried. She was so sweet and funny. I just adore her.
Ahhh, you would have been in such a fabulous trance! I was about 3 rows back. @ the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Likewise, there was just magic in the air!! ...and when her band started playing the overture of 'Teach Me Tonight' - I don't think I've ever had shivers like that before!! There was magic in Australia for her 3 weeks or so here. I'm always youtubing Liza so this came as quite a wonderful surprise! & immediately posted to my Facebook, which I basically use as a part-time Liza blog
@less01 Liza is a symbol, my friend. She is a survivor, she is an activist, she is a legend, she is a hero, she is an idol, she is bigger than life, she is the daughter of Judy Garland. Liza is such an amazing woman that, even if her voice is not what it was 20 years ago, she still draws huge crowds because she is Miss Liza Minnelli. I love her singing voice even now and saw her in concert last year. She is a true star. I love her :)
Hehe, aww don't worry. They won't run out for a while. There's a whole second act to come! :D. I live in Perth and got my 78 Records shop to order it in from America for me. It was well worth the wait :). I saw Liza live in Perth on 21st October last year. I was at the front of the stage, first row! It was amazing. I was in awe, that was the happiest night of my life. :D x
Don't know anything about Judy's grandmother but I guess all that they are mannerisms, voice and soul is inherited there Whats important is the expression and connection shared with the world and a triad of perfection, just enjoy
just posted the same thing, Marcs version is absolutely mind blowing. I also used to know Marc in the 80s so I am a tad biased hahaha! best wishes to you Edward xj
Is this her best performance of this song? I want to know what real fans think. Remember hearing it performed by the stand in for Frank Marino on the strip when he was sick. What a song…
...and I think I said on one post "To the person uploading these videos, you are a living legend" or something like that. Ha. Nevertheless, it is still N/A in Oz - I think you've reinforced my decision to just order it off Amazon :-)
Okay. For someone thats always on UA-cam i hardly ever comment aha! - so I'll just send you my Facebook on here, I think, yah ? lol. Hahah. Don't think I'm an obsessed freak re praising you on my Facebook. :P The only time I cried was when the lighting state went to that white strobe-like effect in "New York, New York" - oh, and I think I was pretty teary in "I Would Never Leave You" - however, the rest my heart was pounding. Oh, and I cried at interval too. lol.
@less01 Haha so true :P. I read that she got Liza into drugs in the 70's. If that's true she should be ashamed of herself for almost killing Liza. Also, i've seen Lorna sing in a clip on UA-cam and she just doesn't have the showmanship Judy and Liza have. She just stands there, Liza gets up and dances! :P. Did you see Liza on 'The Judy Garland Show' perform 'Get Happy' when she was 18? Liza was so lovely and talented then :)
@less01 :P Thankyou. Personally I don't like Lorna's singing and don't generally like her as a person lol. However we are both entitled to our opinion, my friend :)
Lol aww that's sweet :). Liza has great power over emotion, possessing the ability to make us smile or cry at any time. Sure, you can send your Facebook on here :). I won't think that you're an obsessed freak, I take it as a compliment that I have a fan :P haha.
@AntinousIsGod1 she is great indeed but she doest sing as good as she use to as a matter a fact I have the not very popular opinion that she never had a great voice at least I dont think so and its not very soothing to hear I am of the opinion that Lorna got the Judy Pipes.. however as an actress , dancer, performer and human being she is indeed a legend
You juste write the excat word I would may write about Liza. Do you kwnow even its aboit michael jackson my email is bigger.than.life : they are part of humanity
I think this is a strange song for Liza to be performing. When Charles Aznavour sang it, it made perfect sense, and he was great! But Liza? Oh well, she's always been a bit loony.

Absolutely incredible. Few people know how to act like this. The definition of Acting through song. A star
Your comment reminds me that Charles Aznavour described his job as a song actor
I saw Liza perform this at the Royal Albert hall this week... she is undoubtedly deserving of the title 'legend'!

A song by the beloved Charles Aznavour. Beautiful rendition by Liza.
I was in a trance, it was fabulous :)

Liza is a true star she plays roles in every song. Sure the voice has lost some power but her acting is wonderful Liza keep doing this we love it.
Love her so much

This song makes ME feel guilty and I haven't done anything and am bisexual :P So powerful. I'm seeing Liza at the Hollywood Bowl on the 11th.

I need more info abut the song!!! 😞 who wrote it ? And what is about ?
Fuad foad Charles aznavour wrote it in French and sang it for the first time . French singing icon still alive.
french man charles azanavour
Charles Aznavour is not French but Armenian.......
Charles est Français / né en France de parents qui ont fui l'Arménie
@less01 :P Thankyou. Personally I don't like Lorna's singing and don't generally like her as a person lol. However we are both entitled to our opinion, my friend :)

There was a version she sang when she won a GLAAD award or something and it was much much better than this...
Yes I saw it; it was the "Vanguard Award" & I agree with U simply awsome!
Wheres Harvey Fierstein when you need him?
hahahaha!
Sorry sister. Just leave it to Marc Almond! He owns this song!

Still better than what you ever got, though.
Jezus christ. Awfull. Marc almond with this song is soooo much better

I think the joke is that Liza looks like a drag queen... and she knows it... and this would fit. She's also a very strong advocate of equality.
+Seashore Girl Why is it strange. They were friends and I've heard her say he was her greatest inspiration.
Horrible.
Not great
Liza used to be talented, but the years of alleged drug use have apparently taken it's toll. This is by far the wrong song for her to sing anyway.
Sorry Liza, your version is poor.Your voice has gone. The tango like music is pretty grim.
