As an Uber driver, I won't initiate a conversation beyond the initial greeting. It's cool if they want to talk but they have to start it. Some people just want a ride, A to B. It's not my place to yap their ears off if they just want a nice quiet ride to their destination.
I'm the opposite I have my own car but have taken Lyft & uber b4 & I wait f ok r driver to initiate conversation if they dont I stay quiet not because I'm rude but I'm the type to let them start idk if its shyness or maybe its because some ppl dont like being distracted while they drive plus they're the 1 providing a service it's like any customer service whener its retail or a cashier at a fast food place you're taught & even have secret shoppers that u r greeting each customer & in some incidents upselling like asking if they want a drink or make it a combo or go large etc....either way I feel more comfortable letting them start after tho I'm down to talk the whole way.
Especially since you don't know how that person is feeling at the time. They might be upset, like the person in the first video, so I would definitely wait for them to initiate.

That last story...when dude called the uber driver back for info about the dude in the back that wound up chasing him....the driver's response could be taken as garbage if you think about it...something tells me the driver was in cahoots with the guy. He could have easily parked away enough so the victim couldn't see the car, waiting for the other dude to give signal as to whatever was going to happen was done and the driver roll back and scoop his partner in crime back up. Can't trust anyone these days man....so sad too. My friend was an uber driver in Panama City Beach, FL, working the night shift during tourist season and someone had requested a ride home from a popular bar around here. The guy gave the address and she started driving. About 15 minutes later, they were about to pass the last gas station there was before arriving at the address he provided, so he asked if she would stop so he could grab a pack of smokes. He went in and got what he needed and got back in the car. Before she could put the car in reverse to back out, the guy had a knife help to her throat. He took her phone, her purse, the GPS device and every piece of jewelry she was wearing. Scary shit. Needless to say, she was done driving for Uber or any ride service after that night. He had the knife pressed at her neck hard enough that it made a small light cut that did bleed, thankfullynot much though. The amount of blood was equivalent to that of a scratch from an animal that broke the skin...Thankfully that's all it did and that the guy only robbed her instead of the endless amount of bad shit that could have taken place instead.

Uber should make it mandatory that any cars driving for their service have child locks mechanically disabled. Rides should be recorded and pic of drivers and passengers exchanged.
Color me crazy but I’m with L on this one. I will greet the driver and tell them where I’m going but that’s about it. I get nervous around people really bad and the awkward small talk makes it even worse. I’m not trying to be rude, and I will talk to them if they talk to me but I don’t go out of my way to start a conversation.

My wife’s coworker was killed and robbed by a “Fake” Uber driver. He was a little wasted and didn’t follow proper protocol when getting in the car and the guy drove him to a vacant area and killed him and took his stuff. Sad situation

I would suggest to go to karate and/or judo training and you'll learn how to judge a situation and how to know when to engage or backoff and live to fight another day. I'd fight for my last breath if I knew they'd kill me. If pleading wouldn't stop em from taking my life AND taking my stuff, which at that point makes them not worthy of a healthy life for me. That's what my dad had to do. I was only about 12 and heavily getting into judo, he told me a story of how he was 16 and got jumped by 4 guys and two had a gun the other two said they had guns but didn't actually, once he got the main guys actual gun, in under 3 seconds he disarmed the guy and had his weapon, then to knock the guy out cold, they got scared and ran. Even the guy with the gun. He was able to tie the guy up to a nearby small tree, this happened near a restaurant and my dad got the bartender, who was working there, to call 911. They did get that guy and they managed to arrest 2 other guys, but the 4th one, the other one with the gun did get away. He also told me of when he was 19 and riding his bike home after work, he worked in a rough area but lived in between the rough and nice neighborhoods, two dudes stopped him on the streets and showed him a knife and he legit kept on repeating himself over and over again that he didn't have any money on him, which was a lie but he didn't care to tell them that his pens and money was in his left pocket and his right only had his license and card, then when he saw his move he kicked the one guy with the knife in the knee, probably hyperextended it, because he said the guy went down holding his knee and he stayed down, the other guy was a little more skilled with the knife, but he managed to actually kick the bike he had into the guys shin and caused him to flinch back and then he used the bike to hit the guy while he was stunned. I didn't believe him when he explained he proceeded to get mad when the guy got up and cut his arm, that was when he got really mad and decided he had enough. He sent those two to the hospital. He got it all cleared up and those two got some hefty fines for attempted robbery, but he said it really happened and he'd only just started karate and judo when he was 14. He hadn't even needed to know karate or judo for the stuff he did to those two.

They use old Hispanic women asking for help to make you drop your guard. Then snatch you up in a van. A lot of it during the day. Just a couple miles from my house, they tried pulling a girl out of her car with her boyfriend right there with her. It's crazy. There is so much danger out there. Every one be safe. They go for girls and boys and older ones even. So please PLEASE be careful out there!

When I lived in Florida last year I was a Lyft driver. Initiating conversations for the distance of the ride was easy. During my 4.5 months I never anything like this happen. I was part of drug deals, arms deals, people avoiding the walk of shame, escort services and taking people to North Florida from Central Florida. Stay safe everyone.

Some info for anybody that doesn't know... If you're getting robbed at an ATM enter your PIN # backwards. By doing so it alerts the police immediately, the ATM will still proceed as normal and give you the cash so it doesn't raise alarm to the robber. (I've heard/read from people that it's a hoax, I've also heard from a person with personal experience stating it works. Idk if it's different between banks and/or states. Just something for y'all to keep in your mind)

The last time I ordered an Uber I was out with my brother and used his acct since my phone died. The driver that showed up had a red car and said he was there for Eric. My drunk ass was half a second from getting into the car before my brother realised the car wasn't the right make/model and another dude named Eric walked over. The correct car arrived 5 seconds later. Ever since then I haven't used Uber. That one in a million coincidence freaked the shit out of me
When I take a lyft I always send a family member a photo of the driver and their car and name and another person who gets into the car and their name. No matter what I always give out that information just in case someone decides to put my life in danger.
Thank goodness for that Uber driver who took the time to wait for that guy and make sure he was alright before he left. He already knew something was wrong with the house and I can only hope I get an Uber driver like that who waits around if he sees something suspicious going on at the place I'm going. And I don't know in the U.S but in Mexico you can pay with cash as well on your Uber rides.

My family used to have both Uber and Lyft just in case the cars were being used when someone needed to go somewhere. Then we heard this woman was sexually assaulted by her uber driver, another was murdered, and then the sex trafficking thing all in quick succession, and my mom was like "Yeah, go ahead and delete Uber off your phones..." After that, before we enter any Lyft car, we make sure to ask the driver their name and look at the license plate to make sure it matches the info on the Lyft app. We also never travel at night in a Lyft if we can help it. Twice my sister saw that the license plates on the car and app didn't match and helped the driver correct it so they wouldn't have any issues/misunderstandings in the future.

My friend was a black cab taxi driver in England. He had a pick up at a bridge near a river at 11.30pm. It was a woman. So she was sitting in the back he kept looking in the mirror and try to talk to her she just told him the address of her home in london and said that her brother will be home and he will pay for the affair . Once they arrive at the house she told him to knock on the door and her brother will pay the fair and she will stay in the black cab. The Taxi drive knocked on the door and a man answered and he explained that his sister is in the cab and she told him to pay the cab driver. The man then reply with horror saying my died last month that she jump off a bridge and took her own life . Taxi was horrified and point to the cab at the back seat but no one was in the taxi!!! He left that job
See now, one: that's why I don't carry cash (Plus I'm broke AF, so they aint getting shyiiit), but if I was a driver for a car service and something didn't feel right about my clients, I'd drive straight to a police station. 🙅♀️
I was a cab driver in the ‘90’s. It was scary at times. I mostly drove people to dialysis. But I did have scary encounters sometimes. Would I do it today? HELL NAW!
I always carry me a pencil or knife So if something like that does happen. I can go for the juggler or ear. So they have to stop and I can get out and run away
I was an Uber driver and I could tell you, regarding story #2, there is no way the driver called the previous passenger because we never had their phone number. Even when a customer would call us, it was a number that went through Uber. If you left something in the car, we would call Uber and Uber would leave an automated call to the passenger and with our permission, our number would be sent to them. It was a good story, though.
That’s some scary 🤬 I had a guy pull up in front of my house saying he was my ride, that the other guy couldn’t get me so he would take over. Funny thing is my Uber driver 1) was a woman 2) pulled up right behind him. I always pay attention to there license number, color of there car and I wait til they say my name then I get in the car. And 3) I try not to ride by myself. Helpful note: Share your ride feature is a good option to do. So a family member, friend or work knows your details. Stay safe.
I use Uber regularly for work, I hate taking public transportation. If it’s a new driver I don’t wear my seatbelt cuz that just one more obstacle to fight against

actually both Uber and Lyft have the light up dashboard signs in my area (Missouri)

I would put a small amount of real money into the wallet with some fake or old credit cards and used receipts in the wallet just to make it look real.

The last time I ordered an Uber I was out with my brother and used his acct since my phone died. The driver that showed up had a red car and said he was there for Eric. My drunk ass was half a second from getting into the car before my brother realised the car wasn't the right make/model and another dude named Eric walked over. The correct car arrived 5 seconds later. Ever since then I haven't used Uber. That one in a million coincidence freaked the shit out of me
When I take a lyft I always send a family member a photo of the driver and their car and name and another person who gets into the car and their name. No matter what I always give out that information just in case someone decides to put my life in danger.
Thank goodness for that Uber driver who took the time to wait for that guy and make sure he was alright before he left. He already knew something was wrong with the house and I can only hope I get an Uber driver like that who waits around if he sees something suspicious going on at the place I'm going.
And I don't know in the U.S but in Mexico you can pay with cash as well on your Uber rides.

My family used to have both Uber and Lyft just in case the cars were being used when someone needed to go somewhere. Then we heard this woman was sexually assaulted by her uber driver, another was murdered, and then the sex trafficking thing all in quick succession, and my mom was like "Yeah, go ahead and delete Uber off your phones..." After that, before we enter any Lyft car, we make sure to ask the driver their name and look at the license plate to make sure it matches the info on the Lyft app. We also never travel at night in a Lyft if we can help it. Twice my sister saw that the license plates on the car and app didn't match and helped the driver correct it so they wouldn't have any issues/misunderstandings in the future.
Never would have my actual wallet with me as an Uber Driver, Story 3 she lost 250$ and they have her address now

I had the same situation I used uber to get to work and the guy took an exit and was heading to a different city and I was like where are you going he said he was following the map I was so pissed
Alex but was he following the GPS? If you don’t agree with the GPS then just ask to go another way. Just open your mouth and speak instead of getting pissed

My friend was a black cab taxi driver in England. He had a pick up at a bridge near a river at 11.30pm.
It was a woman. So she was sitting in the back he kept looking in the mirror and try to talk to her she just told him the address of her home in london and said that her brother will be home and he will pay for the affair . Once they arrive at the house she told him to knock on the door and her brother will pay the fair and she will stay in the black cab. The Taxi drive knocked on the door and a man answered and he explained that his sister is in the cab and she told him to pay the cab driver.
The man then reply with horror saying my died last month that she jump off a bridge and took her own life . Taxi was horrified and point to the cab at the back seat but no one was in the taxi!!!
He left that job
See now, one: that's why I don't carry cash (Plus I'm broke AF, so they aint getting shyiiit), but if I was a driver for a car service and something didn't feel right about my clients, I'd drive straight to a police station. 🙅♀️
I was a cab driver in the ‘90’s. It was scary at times. I mostly drove people to dialysis. But I did have scary encounters sometimes. Would I do it today? HELL NAW!

As a Lyft driver myself always check the tag and make sure matches and make sure you ask them for your name that's on the app

I was an Uber driver and I could tell you, regarding story #2, there is no way the driver called the previous passenger because we never had their phone number. Even when a customer would call us, it was a number that went through Uber. If you left something in the car, we would call Uber and Uber would leave an automated call to the passenger and with our permission, our number would be sent to them. It was a good story, though.
That’s some scary 🤬 I had a guy pull up in front of my house saying he was my ride, that the other guy couldn’t get me so he would take over. Funny thing is my Uber driver 1) was a woman 2) pulled up right behind him. I always pay attention to there license number, color of there car and I wait til they say my name then I get in the car. And 3) I try not to ride by myself. Helpful note: Share your ride feature is a good option to do. So a family member, friend or work knows your details. Stay safe.

I use Uber regularly for work, I hate taking public transportation. If it’s a new driver I don’t wear my seatbelt cuz that just one more obstacle to fight against
