for anyone wondering about HESH. HESH shells stands for high explosive squashed head, HESH rounds are not kinetic energy based like HEAT. when a HESH round impacts its target the 'head/ tip' of the round is squashed against the enemy armour, the shell then detonates on the outside of the armour, this explosion causes huge vibrations, these vibrations cause the inside of the piece of armour to fracture and splinter (|spalling) creating high velocity shrapnel which shreds anything in its way (flesh, ammo, fuel and engines etc).

Shell normalization and the pen technically make it the best shell and best pen in the game. HEAT on the Jagdpanzer E 100 is the same pen, but shell normalization and three times calibers rule does take effect which makes the AP a better shell, as it has shell normalization which can overmatch side-scraping tanks. HEAT, however, cannot as it doesn’t have any shell normalization, so the angle would be the same, so AP would be better.

Great job explaining she’ll normalization🤙🏼 HE has a “splash” zone of coverage. That is why you can shoot the ground under a tank and damage the tank with HE. You can also shoot an object, rock, unbreakable building or a wall that a tank is touching and damage the tank. Same thing with shooting and damaging two enemy tanks “with a singular shell” that are touching each other.

APFSDS means armour piercing finned stabilised discarding sabot, this is more like an arrow fired from a cannon barrel for example if u have a 120mm gun and u fire a APFSDS round through it the APFSDS rod (which is either depleted uranium or tungsten) will only have a diameter of about 50mm but it is longer and has fins to stabilise and rifle the round. this means that you are firing a much smaller and more aero dynamic round using the same charge, therefor the rod will achieve much faster speed meaning more penetration capability, APFSDS rounds cannot be countered by composite armour or spaced armour (unless it is designed like the modern leopard turret cheeks) due to it being a kinetic round, on impact with enemy armour the rod passes through the enemy armour and create's spalling from the exit hole of the rod and also the rod will break apart and bounce at a very high speed inside of the tank inflicting internal damage.

One thing that everyone forgets to mention is the vehicle s height because lets look at the first 2 vehicles in the vid the amx Vs is4 the difference in the height helps the amx pen the is 4 easily because of its height
While the is4 its small tank and the amx s armor works effectively thats why the is4 bounced if maus stays in front of the amx will pen it easily because maus is tall and decreases the amx s armour

Theres a formula to figure out effective thickness if you can guess the angle of the armour -(numerical thickness)/cos(angle). So if you wanted to pen a T-34, it would be 45mm/cos(60) which is 90mm effective thickness. For normalisation, take off a few degrees, so with AP, you would only need 45mm/cos(55) of pen to go through a T-34. Just some useless trivia that no one will use but cool to know

HESH works like HE. But High-explosive squash head (HESH) is a type of explosive projectile which utilizes a plastic explosive that conforms to the surface of a target before detonating to improve the transfer of explosive energy to the target. Squash head projectiles are similar to high explosive projectiles and are well suited to many of the same targets. However, while HESH projectiles are not armor piercing they are capable of defeating armored targets by causing spall which can injure or kill a vehicles occupants. They were fielded primarily by the British Army as the main explosive round of its main battle tanks (MBT) during the Cold war. It was also used by other military forces, particularly those that acquired the early post-World War II British 105 mm Royal Ordnance L7A1 tank gun, including Germany, India, Israel and Sweden. In the United States, it is known as HEP, for "high explosive, plastic"
And the Fv215b 183 uses a 183mm Cannon, 183mm is big and heavy, but you must include the weight of HESH. It uses lots of explosive and adds to the weight. Thus this is why the reload is longer, and potentially there is a high chance for the ammo rack to explode during in reloading (the chances were was either if the loader accidentally dropped the ammunition, then it could have detonated by any means of contact). So it was thought to use lesser ammo, and lessen weight. To reduce this risks.

okay for more info on shell Normalization. Droodles said that AP and APCR are less bouncy compare to HEAT... The slimmer the shell the better at Normalization... APCR are great against Slope armor as they have greater shell Normalization than any shell. and surprisingly All of MBTs have APCR as a standard shell... plus HEAT. and APFSDFS has if not the best Shell Normalization in the game. So do not spam HEAT like it will solved your problems... you will never pen any vehicles when it was angled over 45 degrees, as that is an Auto Bounce for HEAT.. even enemy has 80mm of armor HEAT with 4000000 mm of pen will bounce.
But Luckily WG did give a BS Shell machanics such as Overmatch Machanics where this take places IF your shell caliber will overmatch devided by 3. For example if your armor let's say. 25mm... it will bounced up to 75mm gun.. But 76mm will pen you like a hot knife through butter reguardless of angling. If you have 50mm side plate and angle in the extreme which is over 20 degrees, you can bounce up to 150mm shell. However over 150mm will be your overmatch... so Progetto and Leopard. never angle or side scrape against 268, WZ113 FT or 183... srsly never do that. Those stupid bounces are mostly hit the gun mountlet or flat plate or Track absorbtion. Well, anyway hope this is useful as this does exist in WOT Blitz and WOT PC. IRL there's no such thing as Overmatch caliber

  • @quickfingers7062
    @quickfingers7062 3 роки тому

    In a nutshell,
Ap: used in almost all situations, effective against angled armor because of normalization
Apcr: flies faster than AP, best used at distance. Effective against angled armor.
HEAT: flies slower than AP, but extremely high penetration and no chance of bouncing a shell. Not as effective against angled armor because no normalization.
HE: can splash and cause devastating damage if pennable. Very good for taking out low hit point targets if your gun caliber is large enough (ie at least 120mm gun will kill most

The only thing that 3 calibers rule does is no letting the shell bounce, in fact, the shell will always pen, but it can get stuck in the armor or pen, so, the shell will never bounce, but it may or may not pen depending on the armor thickness of the angled plate and the shell penetration. Also, i dont know if the normalisation still work in those cases.

HESH shells stands for high explosive squashed head, HESH rounds are not kinetic energy based like HEAT. when a HESH round impacts its target the 'head/ tip' of the round is squashed against the enemy armour, the shell then detonates on the outside of the armour, this explosion causes huge vibrations, these vibrations cause the inside of the piece of armour to fracture and splinter creating high velocity shrapnel which shreds anything in its way (flesh, ammo, fuel and engines etc).

HEAT cannot penetrate spaced armor because the spaced armor causes the HEAT shell to inject its combustion chemicals prematurely (before hitting the actual tank armor), rendering the penetration useless.

HEAT is a shaped charge which is a copper cone facing away from the danger end of the shell, this explosive detonates when it hits the target , after detonation the copper is turned effectively into plasma, this 5000 degree celsius 'jet' of molten copper then melts its way through the targets armour and into anything behind it. the jet does not cause as much shrapnel as an AP, APCR and APFSDS, therefore it deals less in game and irl damage.
