I’m in Palm Springs area and it’s pretty bad the water had nowhere to go I got stuck on i10 the freeway was flooded. I’m very blessed to have made it to work today.
Bosses should have gratned days off or WFH. I always give my team that option when weather is in play.
The 10 from date palm to Washington is a disaster. All main arteries in to the City areas are closed. 111 and whitewater Indian gene autry date palm in some spots. Cool and parts of Washington. Even Jefferson and Monroe. Then take a swing at almost every East to west street. If you can stay off the roads
I live in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. There really was no wind at all but we had a good amount of rain all day. The San Diego River did indeed leave its banks but not as bad as it does with our normal winter storms.
I live and worked as a news photo journalist in Miami for many years, and covered many hurricanes.
The one thing you should "not do" is walk in standing water!
Powerlines could be submerged, and might be charged.
I reported on an entire famliy that got electrocuted, while walking in standing water.
During Hurricane Andrew, my crew, and myself all got shocked (standing water) as we went LIVE on the air!
Dropped my camera, reported dropped the mic, while our Live truck operator jumped from his truck.
Please check powerlines in water!
It has ALWAYS been the dumbest thing in journalism, put you in a storm that others are told to leave. Set up cameras inside to shoot outside, and go get cover. Based on bending trees and flying debris, we can tell the wind is powerful, we don't need U standing in it talking about it.
the truck was the safest place to be.. you might want to look for someone with a bit more experience and intelligence as your next driver.
To me it was light rain with mild wind nothing crazy. It rained harder a few months back.
It’s rained a lot harder in past in general. We have had junks of ice falling from the sky before for Christ sakes 💀
@Supersaiyanprime24 if they hadn't you'd be the same people crying about "oh my God the government doesn't care, replace them all, they are all corrupt" give me a break. Yall are so two-faced. Pathetic.
In Los Angeles county I survived 1/4 inch of rain 🌧️ and 4MPH winds! I’m a survivor!😅
RAIN OF TERROR!!!
I have experienced worse rain and wind storms, in Southern California…. definitely over hyped, but I guess it is better to be cautious and prepared. 💚💚💚
It rained. 😂 not even worse than this winter!!
Warning too much is better than doing nothing before disasters, but is it that hard to admit that it was just a normal rainy day in most of the areas?
It doesn't rain that much over here. It was a heavy rain, and some regions like Mexicali, got it far far worse. Thank god everything went better than expected.
Most of southern california does not have normal heavy rains. Most of it is fairly arid.
This storm was over hyped to the max. But, that is typical twaddle we are fed daily.
Hilary hits southern California is the best, funniest headline in years. I feel for the people affected by this, but that doesn't mean I can't giggle at headlines saying how horrible Hilary is
Can see the memes now. Don't feel bad. This storm is nothing like it's being reported.
One of the simple camera techniques to increase drama is to hold the camera 6" off the water and it looks huge. Like a fisherman holding a fish closer to the camera.
@@WalkandPeace
And to the educated, it is noticed.
To the uneducated, it is "truth".
"Must be true, I saw it on the internet !"
California needs to figure out how to preserve all that water .
Terrible drought conditions in California and everyone complaining rain is needed.
Receives 6 inches of rain and everyone is freaking out, should be celebrating.
The drought is old news, at least to Californians. Newsom's govt. would have us believe that we are in a drought, but last season we had plenty of rainfall to fill our reservoirs and build up the snowpack.
I love the videos of the devastation lol. They couldn’t even make it look bad, and they tried
The news disgustingly tried by having headlines for California but pictures of Baja
Sensationalized and blown out of proportion by the Propaganda Outlets. Up in the Pacific North west they are called heavy rain and high winds. Sometimes the power will go out.
It's their job to give the warning, if they downplay it, people could die...
@@americanskeptic1559no use in attempting to explain simple things like this to these Mongoloids.
Storms like this are like earth quakes, there’s always a bigger one. Never let your guard down. At least with weather, you get a warning to plan for your survival.
Thank God this storm didn't live up to the hype. So Cal got some much needed water.....
Seems like the atmosphere river is more powerful than a tropical storm here in California
Yes. I live near Sacramento and the pineapple express can bring heavy rainfall and 65- 70 mph winds.
I’m in Corona ca and it did rain all day yesterday but it was nothing significant light to moderate rain with absolutely no wind.
I sure hope the guard is not let down if another storm hits someday. Those storms can be devastating
If you're on the east coast like I am, you know, right? Category 4 is nothing to be complacent about. They were lucky with cooler waters, but weather has a mind of its own.
Has nothing to do with being lucky. I grew up in Louisiana and I knew from the start the media was blowing this out of proportion. media made this seem like it was going to hurricane katrina. The storm's origin always meant that it was going to have to go over several hundred miles of mexico before it even got to Socal, so it was always going to weaken, zero chance it was going to be a hurricane for us. If it had a clear path to California, then different story and I would've been the first out of town if that was the case.. I've been through a million tropical storms, they don't deserve wall to wall coverage and fear-mongering by the media.
@@Jukeboxster I with you on that, a storm like that we break out the mud trucks and play in E.N.C. I wanted them folks to realize that they can easily brush a tropical storm off because of this one and end up dying because they let their guard down next time. They have sit on us for days at a time and flooded everything. I hope you didn't lose friends and family during Katrina, that was a rough one, I had a group that was going with me to Louisiana and party for a few days but my money was a little slack (my crazy youth) and thank God we didn't. That was sad. Keep safe my friend and thanks for the reply. By the way I live in a swamp and always wanted to live in the Louisiana swamps but my roots are too deep in N.C. My bad, I thought you were addressing me
The great bath of 2023 for California!
I'm very happy for those who sustained no loss. I live in the Antelope Valley and had a river flowing through my yard for hours. I have 3 large and deep holes and a partial fence collaspe, a six foot chain link fence...so please stop down playing this. The news is responsible to give us the worst case scenio, NOT THE BEST!! Rant over, have a great day.
I think that in light of what just happened in Maui, the government was trying to give every possible warning to avoid being blamed if indeed it turned out badly.
Funny, after they tell us it didn’t end up being as bad for so cal as they thought, they continue to tell how terrifying and Catastrophic this is going to be for the other states… 😂 they just won’t let it go
Yah we have the warnings here in Idaho. So far, just slightly heavier rain in Boise.
Thank God🙏🙏🙏
I was fortunate that the storm in my area and surrounding area was no where near as bad as predicted and I live near the coast. It’s better to be cautious and prepared than not. El Niño is here so we will see worse weather later this year. People need to be prepared regardless.
ok but how did hiilary make this tornado? did any other democrat invlolved in this or is hilary just have the power to do that with weather. i knew she a witch i just never thought she would be all like this so publicly
I live in south FL and this would qualify as a rain storm. Weathermen ALWAYS tell you it will be much worse. Then one day it isn't.
@@rogerjohnson8707Not always true. Look at last years devastation on the west coast, many people died because they didn’t evacuate. Also remember the gulf coast, people didn’t listen and said, Oh, I been through these for years, I’m not worried. Afterwards, houses were washed away! People were crying and said they never expected or experienced this and they feared for their lives. You can NEVER predict what nature can do!
@@sandyshore8787 I agree. The same goes for another weather incident in Texas where they had the big freeze. They had many warnings days before by their governor and local officials. A lot of people didn’t prepare because they thought it would be just another snow storm. It was a huge disaster and even kids froze and died, people were sleeping with portable propane heaters on in their house and died. Not many people were prepared or used common sense because they became desperate. Even if the storm ends up being weak, it’s just better to be prepared because it’s better than you and your family dying.
Great theatrics cali
The people of Mexico know much better. Even in Tijuana, thousands live in plywood shacks, some made of used garage doors, dirt streets, etc.
And it can get very cold, wet, windy. San Diego is a different world.
Im in Fresno and we did have winds that knocked over fences and ripped my RV cover in half!! And left us with no power for 12 hrs..i was prepared, its only common sense..but we still need more water..
It was just a good rain .I was out and about all day and night enjoying this wonderful storm.
Always prepare for the worse but hope for the best. Be thankful if the storm did not impact you as bad as forecasted but never let your guard completely down. I was born in California but now live in Florida and I know this from experience. Baja California/Mexico and even Vegas took the brunt of that storm which lessened the impact on California.
I got alerted 3 times between Sunday evening and Monday morning. When this was all over basically. Complete over exaggeration.
It may have been but I have family and friends that live in Vegas and California that got flooded out and didn’t experience a mild rain.
Media overhyping.
Some rain in Californication and trying to make something out of very little, typical. Then they have to come up with something, one person died in Mexico.
Well from someone who lives on the east coast, they are not used to getting that much rain in such a short period of time there, the soil is also not able to absorb the water like it is where I live and after the wild fires in Maui I guess they feel the need to at least warn or say they warned people about the flooding, common sense is not common anymore.
The intention of hyping up "the hurricane barrelling towards us" was to induce me to a coma where I would then go out to buy an EV, change out my stove and water heater to electric and put a bunch of solar panels up or to prep for the mansplaining to me why I am paying ($5.5) for a gallon of premium. Some rich folks getting richer is what we call that here.
CLEAN THE DRAINAGE
To be honest guys, after what just happened to Lahaina, emergency management officials in SoCal probably did not want a bad look if they underplayed this storm and it was worse
All the funding and money they received, for the lightest day of rain I’ve seen in San Diego.
I lived in Florida for 10 years and they do the same thing. It's gonna be bad. etc etc. power rarely goes out and theres no flooding. typically cat 4-5 is what you need to look out for.
Different places are different. Florida building codes allow for hurricane weather. If a 6.0 earthquake hit Florida, half the state would collapse because the buildings don't account for it.
I disagree, we were told we would get 35 mph winds here north of Daytona Beach, Fl last year. We got 90 mile per hour wind gusts, loss of power. Homes were damaged and the roads were falling down on the coastline on the beachside. The erosion caused by huge ocean wave surges took the sand out from UNDER the roads and they collapsed. That was only a category 1. You ALWAYS HAVE TO prepare for the WORST and hope for the best. You shouldn’t be disappointed that things weren’t worse, it is a blessing, I have lived here 25 years. We had 4 hurricanes in one year in 2004. It was horrible. Very damaging and scary storms. I have learned to evacuate early.
@@Matuse California has always been dry due to the desert conditions so any rain will enable mudslides .
I live about 30 minutes east of Los Angeles, this was NOT as bad as being reported, there was some medium to heavy rain in a few areas but for the most part it was light rain with light wind. What's more shocking is seeing the media completely blow this out of proportion
Did this news lady just say “mountains” with a silent “T”? Good lord!
Overblown! This was just a rainstorm.
Bad news is that California getting hit by hurricane, but good news that lower retail theft crimes.
Please be careful needles and junkie Stuff washing down Stream...🤔
Good news all of the grass yards will look like Trumps golf course's again!
The only issue here is high elevation Mountains (S.D.-6500’) (L.A.-11,500) that runs either West to the Ocean or East to the Deserts in Lahar style flash floods taking out EVERYTHING in its path..!
- other than that, we're used to Atmospheric River storms once in a while, and Santa Ana's that rip through for a weekend topping 110mph
The storms last winter made this rain look like nothing. I'm in the Long Beach area
Hyper reporting seems to be the biggest storm
I'm on Space Coast Florida and we take a category 4 warning seriously. But I predicted for my friend in San Diego that she'd get some winds and a couple inches of rain...not to worry. But ALWAYS be prepared for last minute changes.
Wow, look how wet those streets are!!! I can’t believe it rained soooooooo much.. I hope this great state recovers fast! 😂😂😂😂
It was just a steady rain, light wind
more hype than rain
But it does still get cities federal assisted funding - go figure follow $$$$$. This government cares zero of its public all about the Money $$$ and we r talking of big taxpayers dollars they eyeball, so disasters for them, line their coffers!
Looks like a toilet being flushed
I live a bit south of LA and like many are saying, it was mild. Rained about the same as a few months ago, just with some mild winds here and there.
California 2022: Ahhhhh, we don’t have enough water
California 2023: Ahhhhh, we have too much water
So crazy my tires got wet on the way to the Mall
We good up here in N.Cali 😊
Thank God we just got wet the whole time. No strong winds and no flood. National City in San Diego, which is 10 mis drive north of Chula Vista or 15 mins north of Tijuana.
Road now dry here waking up 6a.
People are going to pack the beach as some did wing surfing still yesterday as today school is out.
Last storm 1939 was LA. San Diego last storm was 1800s per wiki.
Nothing happened in Orange County just rain.
I live in the high desert. Damn near got stuck trying to leave out the Main Street. Had to turn around. The dirt was to muddy for a regular vehicle to travel. The wind ripped through here as well.
Big deal about nothing.
Thank you for the entertainment, is the hurricane 🌀 still moving@ 35mpg how about moving did they get the bankets yet?
Thank you 😊 💓
Just a little rain !!! Stop !!!
translation: drought refief arrives, lake levels expected to rise. tv is stupid.
Dramatics and theatrics. The old saying "to cry wolf" comes to mind.
They keep saying that it’s a once in a lifetime storm. I hope they’re right, and it doesn’t happen next year.
Finally the streets of CA is being cleaned.
Saving factor is it moved fast and did not stall.
Go figure a storm named Hillary that brings a lot of wind LOL😮😅😅
Similar event last year, there wasn’t the media freak out. This is all hype, nobody will talk about this.
Was it a category 4 that could cover the entire state if it shifted just right? I'm in Florida. We get serious about Category 3+.
@@gaiagoddess8009 water way too cold to sustain that power. So cal ocean is a lot cooler than the gulf or Atlantic.
I’m in La Habra just small high wind
And on and off rain and small 2 second vibration earthquake .
today suns out feels great outside
Overhyped...
Were there any survivors ?
So this is a really good rainstorm then?
People aren’t happy either way - with lots of warning and it turns into nothing, with lots of warning and they end up needing support from linemen and the state or city to get power and internet on. I’m glad nothing horrible happened but man, if things had been worse…
I was in Coronado CA during the weekend.. gotta say being from the midwest, we just call it rain where I'm from.
Hilstaria slams west coast! Hypercane barreling at your mind.
Way overhyped. I live in SD and if it weren't for the news I'd have never known there was a hurricane. Normal rainy day
I have a family member out there. They said it wasn’t as terrible as reported for San Diego. Sure it was some flooding. They actually liked the storm.
Reading these comments has me SMH FR!! TURN AROUND, DONT DROWN!!
As they say, you can't fix stupid. It looks like most people had enough sense to stay home and off the street. The commenters are future Darwin Award winners.
If California would stop keeping our tax money and build a better road infrastructure, the state wouldn't have any flood issues.
BLESSINGS
Note that Kay had nearly the same track last year but turned west just before hitting San Diego. The TS warning extended to the border. So not really so rare it would seem.
Honestly don't remember hurricane Kay in 2022. Guess I wasn't watching much TV or news then.
What a blessing in disguise tropical storm Hilary turned out to be.
Your family in So Cal called you in New York to find out what they should know about the rain in So Cal?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It was just rain 😂 weather people love drama
Rancho "maraga"? She can't even pronounce the name of the town. News today is mostly bs. I lived in southern CA for 60 years. We saw much worse than this. Everything is hyped to the max today in order to create drama.
The best part of this is that JACK is still free for the Florida hurricanes bound to come.
At least all the homeless got a shower
You mean the calm during the storm.
i was not that bad and i am in the flood zone in the high desert palmdale lancaster. more like the hype in a few months the state will come up with a new tax because of the storm.
Hillary Clinton should leave the weather alone!
Not bad damage, California ain't seen a real hurricane yet, let one like Katrina hit, the flooding was bad though, hope everyone is ok
Palm Springs is a mess and will continue to be as we are low desert. We do have several washes hat overflowed not just from the torrent of rain but rain from our hills and mountains. Roads are closed from the 10 freway threw the entire Coachella Valley.
Storm drains don’t look like they’ve been cleaned in awhile.
I didnt think it was that bad. I live 12 miles out of Los Angeles. Ive seen much WORSE especially in the 70's. And the earth quake wasnt nothing either. Everyone blew this out of proportion. Even my garden survived it. No tree's blew down nothing.
Fake news like always
Thank U 4 sharing n I'm happy 2 know u r ok but I don't think everyone was that blessed. Strange how the street can b ok one plc n flooded out on the next street over! We get that here in Daytona Bch. when we get hit.
Yea mild to moderate at worst! but never bought into the hype to begin with. Everything the MSM puts out needs to be taken with a pound of salt
I'll testify to that. This storm was nothing like it's being reported and the earthquake was so small, most didn't even feel it.
It's better safe than sorry. Please don't tell the people who have flooded out homes about hype. That's an insult frankly. Just feel fortunate that you didn't get it bad.
