Unexpectedly, reading this article brought tears to my eyes. I left the Royal Navy in 2009 after nearly 30 years of service and had been at one time or other its principal advisor for all learning (individual, team and whole ship education and training), leadership and management. My last 6 years were in NATO as part of its battlestaff. After retiring, I wanted to ‘give back’ to our young people and spent 13 years teaching the most critical subjects in the Engineering, Aerospace and Automotive disciplines up to second year degree level. However, I found the leadership was self-satisfied and complacent to the obvious failings of the current education system, particularly in meeting the STEM needs of industry, and was highly resistant to any significant changes. Last year I was told that Exeter College was due an OFSTED inspection so I had to resign as I knew my integrity would compel me to tell the supposed educational leadership of this country, and ,OFSTED, exactly what I thought of their leadership, knowing that the college would be downgraded by a single word - ‘Inadequate’ - if I did so. Since then, of course, there have been tragic consequences around this issue, and I doubt whether I will ever be asked back into the system to teach again.
Create local homeschool co ops run by volunteers and parents. No ipads no phones. Books, paper and pens and a good library. 100 years ago community schools raised smarter, more responsible kids who were expected to behave. The government does not care about your kids. This is a societal problem not lack of funding.
Lets spend grands on computers then sack a load of teachers cos we spent all thd cash on tech, so now we got a load of overpriced pcs that nobody has been taught how tk build or use cos no teachers left, when treemans would make every pupil build their own sbc pc for under £20 using chipboards solder and a fsw resistors
Formal education of basic education and college education must not be impaired by the state lack of funds. Educational institution must stand to be the leading example of entrepreneurship making its operation a self revenue earning school e.g. build a canteen concessionaire, a convenience store, office and school supplies, public and students“ computer shop and copying machine, telephone and telefax services. A one stop shop for all for the safety and convenience of the students and public consumers. -Oraculum
We been trying to decide whether the kids need economic philosophy or rice crispy buns and badminton , and its rice crispy buns all the way.. Shushhh about marx
All industries have budgets. If i cant do my job with the budget i get i would be politely ask to leave. I would also be expecting to hand 10% back. The problem is headteachers cant run the schools teachers are not as well educated anymore and salaries are to high. Lets start reducing salaries. Putting teachers on performance related pay .hiring heads that are business educated and see what happens
Sorry but at my children’s school they have one main teacher in the classroom and 3 “ Assistants “ in the same room. Scrap the extra assistants and save way more money.

You allowed so many of the global poor in, without considering the costs.
Make the lazy parents pay
????? the parents who can afford to pay are those who have sent their children to independents.
