BRAVO! Just surfing for info on a 01 Jetta I just bought from a customer. Came across your video. Although it was unrelated I gained a lot of knowledge. Another day I learned something! P.S I have been an auto Tech for 40 + years. You can always learn more! Thank You! Tony. Dales
i went to a local trans shop today and was given an estimate of $2,800 for a rebuild of a VW 09A/GNZ for a 2004 Jetta 1.8T. I know you mentioned a few times about making sure to change the speed sensors and I specifically asked if the kit includes the speed sensors - he said no we never do those unless they go bad. Needless to say I will be taking my business elsewhere.
You said when it's cold and doesn't want to shift it could be the valve body and or solenoids. That's my exact problem is it won't shift until it's warmed up. Would you recommend changing the solenoids?
Great video! I wish you put it back together on a video. I put everything back together but not sure if I did something wrong. The rear cover is hovering over a little under quarter inch and no more as if it were preloaded. Is that normal? I kept an eye out for the little details from what you were putting aside as of the bearings and what not. I couldn't get my torque converter in all the way after the rebuild. I'm guessing that the key slot was shifted a little off and needs to be centered again.
hello sr would you make a small video putting back the valvebody I'm having a hard time I'm not sure how to Aline the pin that is on back of valvebody thanks great work
Amazing. Simply Amazing! You are easily one of the best mechanics I've seen just by this one break down alone. An it's not an easy job I know! Can I ask tho where is the nut to drain the atf? An is there a protective shield under the car that you have to remove? Thanks
Another great video Hiram. You mentioned the different "codes" on the production tags on the VW transmissions. Even if the codes and housings are different, could you have used the internal components with the other unit your car dealer had? Assuming the transmissions came out of the same type model and engine? Also, i have a customers 02 Jetta that has a long delay into reverse and a flair into 3rd. Might have that bad piston you were talking about in the Jaguars.
I have a Golf4 1.9tdi 2002 automatic transmission Jatco 09a. The question is that there is no fifth gear. The valve body is new. except that there is no fifth gear. After 70 k/h Shows 5 well, the actual one is fictitious but in reality it remains at four. Please can you give me some advice other than the hydraulic unit, what else could it be? Thanks in advance, I will be very grateful for your answer. Code 00652
Is there anyway you can show us how you pulled it off the car? Im having a hell of a time getting to the m12 triple square bolts holding it in and wondering what to do?
'02 jetta 1.8t.. reverse was forward when I got it and forward was nothing, towed it to my shop and put it in reverse and it worked perfectly but no forward gears... fixed leak and filled up with fluid and had no movement in any gear... swapped valve body and 're filled and all gears were forward gears... drained a little out and has no movement in any gear... any idea what would be wrong...???
Why do I feel like I'm on an FBI list now simply because I wanted to find out how to work on this transmission 🤣 This abbreviation appears to be a very controversial.. Thing. I never thought I would say this but, I would avoid using that abbreviation in the title in the future.😂
My Jetta 2003 1.8T its not shifting from 3rd to 4th. 1,2,3 shifts ok, reversa ok, not shifting hard. With Codes 00300, 01166, 00652. What can i do to fix ir or its better ti remplaced ? 09A 321 l05 ( JP JC7 )

Hi. Great videos. I'm trying to open a small shop but the parts are so expensive. I would like to provide help on normal prices. Could you please advise, from where you are taking the parts on a good price. Currently I'm working on 09A transmission (JF506E) on Audi A3 2001 19. TDI 131hp.
Hello! I have the same box on a VW Bora 131 hp. The problem is that 4 and 5 are slipping. The discs have been replaced (but without the steel discs), and the selenoids are new. Unfortunately, the problem remained. please help

Hi can you tell me why my VW Jetta sometimes tries to stall the engine like its locked up but always manages to release itself without quite stalling ? whats the fix ? Any info would be a real help please. Mr G UK
It wont go in to drive and found throttle leaking air I switched it but I have to rev it up to like 5 rpm in Drive to get it in first. Then it rides fine until I put it in park or reverse not as bad . Im guessing valve body and solenoids.

I watched your video on the tare down of a vw jetta automatic transmission, can you explain that if you remove the wrong bolt for filling the oil you can disconnect the reverse ban on the transmission. I just bought a car that has no reverse and the guy told me he just had the car in to have the fluids changed, when he got the car back reverse didn't work. Is there a way to reconnect the ban without pulling the transmission apart? Or what is the best way to fix this?
Hello, Pls I need your help.i have an 02 VW Bora with an 01M auto transmission.it has only 89990km on it. It recently started to leak AFT from the opening between the engine and the gearbox. Checking it revealed the torque converter seal was bad. The gearbox was removed and a new seal installed. Fresh ATF was poured in and the leak was fixed. I took the car for a test drive, it was just fine. Went to a car wash, washed the car and on my way home, the car started acting up. It won't move on drive, and reverse. Prior to the seal replacement, the car was scanned for codes and 01192 was found. This was cleared after the seal change out and the code hasn't returned again but the car won't move in drive or reverse. Pls what can I do? Hi there ,Am having a prob with à VW golf IV TDI 115ps the gear box from 1 to 5 and from 5to1 reverse is working fine but every i have really massive shock in the transmission (like the box is shifting 2gears u know what I mean) Did you had such issues maybe ?Cheers from Germany (-;
Hi iram hey i really like your video it was so helpful because i did a tear down on my 09a transmission but now i'm stock because i don't know witch fluidto put on i know i can go to de dealership but truly i don't want to spend 20 bucks for 1 L so if you or anyone knows a aftermarket one please let me know thanks
I like your videos and how you explain, and I wanted to tell you that we have a 2004 WV golf gti 1.8t with the same transmission that you have in the video,09A I bought it and when it's cold they didn't shift, when it gets warm they shift, I bought the shift solenoid and now it's shift but 2nd to 3rd shift too hard and to slow down on 3rd to 2nd it pulls you back, I changed he valve body and it still doing the same thing, any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have a 2002 1.8T Jetta doing the same thing. The valve body and oil filter were replaced, the cooler flushed. After talking to several people I think there is debris blocking oil to an accumulator. I was told the best fix is probably tear it down and clean it all out, but hoping to narrow down where exactly the cause is before doing that.

Hello everyone I have this gear box in my 02 bora 1.9 tdi 130 It's has 88k miles. The car is literally in showroom condition. It's like a brand new car It has a problem! When I'm driving it 1st thing on a morning every gear change is perfect But as it warms up it slips! But it only slips after I pull off from a complete stop. Red light, round about etc This is how, it's pulls away ok which is 1st gear I'm guessing but then as it goes into 2nd it straight away starts free revving like a manual with the clutch to the floor! But as it gets to 3 rpm or so it kicks in smoothly! Other wise it's perfect?! An if I drive off very very slowly there's no problems with the shifts at all. It makes no sense. But I can't pull out of a give way slowly in an ideal world because something could hit me in the side of the car! So I need this fixing Please help Thanks
Hiram me gustaría ese video en español tengo una sharan 2005 con esa transmisión en frío no entra la 3cera velocidad me podrás hacer favor de darme tu numero de teléfono para tener comunicación saludos
Hi on that transmission you didn’t indicate the temp sensor ( g93) location. ? Could you comment on the sensor location bc iam getting a 00300 code. Pls and thx.
Harsh up and down shifts are usually the 2/4 duty solenoid. Quite a common fault just remove front cover, absolutely no need to replace all 9 solenoids. We change these in situ on Rover 75's. The cracked reverse piston fault can also be done in situ. Done loads of repairs on these Jatcos without removing and stripping the whole unit, which keeps the cost well down for owners
Hiram, that 09A is the same trans that is in my son's 02 jetta. I have been waiting for this video!!! I have enjoyed your work and your videos, I would like to see the trouble code video update. I want to thank you for this video , it is very well made, rigth to the point and it has been very helpful . I have only one question , is the vw tiptronic 09a the same as the 09b? I mean the same overhaul kit works the same on both transmissions? what is the difference? thanks alot Hiriam :)
Thanks for the great video. I am about to attempt my first rebuild. Mine is fine in first and reverse but slips badly as soon as I get to second (fluid is clean and full). Any suggestions what I might look for?
Hi there, i am from Belgium (so my english is not good :-) i have a problem with a VW golf 4 TDI with +-200000km the gbx is slliping on 3gear but only when using D mode if i use semi automatic mode meaning using the lever i have no slipping i know automatic transmission are complicate but did u ever ever had similar prob ones again sorry for my poor english regards from Belgium cheers :-)
Hi Hiram, you are the rock star of Transmission. You have saved me a tonne (metric) of trouble by posting this video on YTube. Let me explain... I own a 05 Jetta with over 500,000 KM's and wanted to give it a transmission filter and fluid change. Bought the filter & gasket and that special VW G052 Trany Oil (liquid gold) @ $40.00 Cnd./litre. Just about to start undoing the valve body cover when I decided to confirm the type of trany I have. Found the # 09A... had a quick look at your video to find out that the damn filter is inside the trany and impossible to replace unless you have Hiram do it for you. LOL Damn VW engineers, they do this all the time, who has ever heard of lifetime (warranty period of the trany) oil in a transmission. I guess I will have to just settle on changing the oil periodically and hope this keeps the beast running. Thanks for your vids.
I have problem can you help me what is cause it.when I drive normal and when I press the break or remove my leg from the accelerator paddle. the transmission un-engage. I must put it on "N" then "D" again to engaged the gear.what is the possible error will cause this problem.it is VW Jetta 2009BR
Where are you located because I have a Volkswagen jetta tdi 2004 and I really want to service it if I have to drive I drive it to your store because MI e don't take the 3rd gear after that is ok
I got a 2004 vw jetta reverse wont work until transmisión is warm ones is warm I put it on reverse and I have to step on the gas so it can work what can I do to fix it
Hiram, I love love love your videos. Thank you so much for uploading them. Can you recommend a good place to get parts? In fact, I need parts for the 09A itself.

Does this transmission have a standpipe on one of those lower ports? The manual says the tranny can be serviced using it. Service to overflow.

Hi,
I have one of these gearboxes in a ford Mondeo (Europe) 2005
It's the same as what is used in the Jaguar X-type (same chassis)
Problem is, when stationary, you move to pull away and it will crawl along very slowly... It's not until you use more throttle / accelerator / gas that it will start accelerating properly.
When moving though it seems fine, although there is an occasional grinding noise but I don't know if this is from the gearbox.
Main problem is just when pulling away from standstill, it crawls... Doesn't slam into gear and seems to change up and down ok.
Is it likely to be just oil low? Or worn frictions?
Just wanted an opinion because here the oil for this gearbox from ford is £13 a litre roughly. Very expensive.
Thanks

have same transmission in Volkswagen GTI... thanks transmission filter internally. I was wondering where that filter was😆
Hi on that transmission you didn’t indicate the temp sensor ( g93) location. ? Could you comment on the sensor location bc iam getting a 00300 code. Pls and thx.
Ill stick too rebuilding engines.
What would you charge to rebuild that thing right?
Harsh up and down shifts are usually the 2/4 duty solenoid.
Quite a common fault just remove front cover, absolutely no need to replace all 9 solenoids.
We change these in situ on Rover 75's.
The cracked reverse piston fault can also be done in situ.
Done loads of repairs on these Jatcos without removing and stripping the whole unit, which keeps the cost well down for owners

Thanks for your vids.
.
you should be a teacher you are awesome. great way to teach. keep up the good work

Not all GNZ trans are the same code 09A?
22:56 Man what did it happen if i didn't put the support that you pushed in the minutes that I wrote
Hiram, I love love love your videos. Thank you so much for uploading them. Can you recommend a good place to get parts? In fact, I need parts for the 09A itself.
He mentions in the video where the source the speed sensors. I would assume you can start with those suppliers.
No warranty because "If it comes back you make more money." When doing it right interferes with running a business.
The customer is just flipping this car and flippers don’t care.
You are the "Transmission King"!
