My thoughts and Prayers for all those riders!!
I remember when the Cannonball came thru Rochester NH and I saw a "Wheels Thru Time" bike in the parking lot... It turned me on to these wonderful machines!!
    Thank You, Matt!

Wonderful seeing these old bits of kit out and about and doing what they were built to do!. No 'preciousness or cosetting and no sitting in a museum gathering dust!.... Good on ya guys!. Nuff said. 🙂 Maddog Melbourne Aus

I had a chance to ride a JD about fifty miles. Those old bikers had some hard asses no doubt. Though it was not a Harley to get the feel of man and machine, read about Lawrence of Arabia's race against a British bomber. This man is my motorcycle hero. And those old bikes are a blast to ride.

I left San Diego California for Daytona Florida on December 31. I had 5 days till first day of
School at A.M.I.below freezing crawling in weekend
R.V. traffic almost quit due to
      Painful cold brand new leather
Gauntlets with hollowfil insulation waterproofing & seamsealed but I remembered my gortex mittens so ok.warm sunny had dinner at McDonald's in
      The desert was raining and
      18 22 degrees until Beaumont
Texas where my Kz 750 lost
Spark 3 guys in El Camino stopped I had five bags and left my bike at the barb wire
Fence lucky for me they insisted I put the bike in the
Back and they dropped me off
At a motorcycle junk yard it was closed and Friday after five . Nothing to eat or drink
Till Monday the owner sold me a cdi box soldered my coil
Wire and threw n a side cover
For $80 and put 50# fishing line on both side covers. I kept at 80mph (except for crawling out of my San Diego ) got a speeding ticket in New Mexico once I hit the
Pan handle I opened it up and
Did 140 except when I saw cops which was maybe a half a dozen times always two or three units stopped and ticketing cars I passed everything except for one
Sport bike as I was nearing Jacksonville and he must have been doing close to 180
Or 190 my after market gauges were right on the money I had found out in New
Mexico. After Jacksonville I did the speed limit and got to
School in time took the motorcycle mechanic course,
Then the Harley Davidson course volunteered to be a
      Corner Marshall for the 50th
Daytona 200. That was the first time a v twin won since
The four cylinder Japanese bikes started racing there it wasn't a Harley but Doug Poulen #23 on a Fast by Farachi Ducati (please excuse
      If I misspelled anyone's name)
And he not only won but set a
Track record. I worked the corner to the right of the stands. On the Saturday before
The 50th 200 a bike went down the rider was unconscious I had a little trouble getting him off the track - his arm was up to
      His shoulder between his rear
Fender and wheel the clutch was inoperable the shifter bent and jammed we were right in the middle of the track
I didn't want to red flag and I told my helper not to indicate
What side of the track the bikes were coming out from the haybales at 90 mph some
Went to the right of us and some went to the left of us.
The first thing I did was check
If the rider was breathing and
A beautiful nurse was right there before I could check for
A pulse . The next day the Sunday paper had a front page photo of just the bike
And rider. Two weeks later I was on my way back home,
I was fourth in my standing by
Two hundred of a point when you train to be a Corner Marshall, down at Moroso and
You work the races your grades go down but it was fun!

@@dawnmathis2659 At the moment no, due to illness, but i have ridden all over Europe on my little Guzzi, ( 38HP)right around Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Holland and lots of Germany, plus the UK, often through the night to arrive someplace, however our roads are not wide and smooth like yours, they are narrow, and many have a 2 thousand metre drop, nor are their food parties and stuff awaiting, and often the weather is vile, snowing and heavy rain, I have covered 500 mile sin one day, but I felt it, 300 is a reasonable distance, now on your straight roads, I would pick a Yamaha Fjr and use the throttle and cover 600 to 700 a day with ease
