Hi folks! I'm back! Got my UA-cam returned to me after it was hijacked. YT fixed things and I'm back in business. Great to be back! Hope all is well with everyone. Clear skies!
Just a question Shawn, if you take LRGB do you apply the drizzle data to just the L or LRGB..and do you apply to RGB combined or individually ?? Regards Paul
Fantastic video and just in time. I was just about to use the weighted batch processing script. You just save me a ton of time. Did not know you were hijacked but glad you’re back.
Welcome back Shawn!, Excellent video on weighted batch preprocessing, your videos are always a big help, off to catch up with the rest of your videos, keep up the good work much appreciated.
Terrific tutorial and as others have said, I've benefitted from watching it a few times. Actually got round to following it and using it at the same time and it was very easy to follow. Thank you.
Thanks Shawn, awesome summary as always, I love BPP, and WBPP makes it even better! Thanks also for the drizzle integration tip at the end, gotta use that more 👍🏻
If you use flat darks, put them under the "darks" tab along with your dark frames. Make sure under the "flats" tab that "calibrate with flat darks" is checked.
What about the global option 'Optimize dark frames'? The description provided by PI is not very clear. When checked, my calibrated lights show some vignetting and traces of amp glow. When unchecked, the calibrated lights have very even backgrounds but are somewhat noisy. Which option do you use, and do you know how to reduce the noise when unchecked? Thanks.
Off hand if I understand this right it seems first like your flats aren't correct because the flats should remove vignetting. I always have optimize dark frames enable as it helps to reduce noise due to dark subtraction. I've not encountered additional noise from it. You may want to try performing the calibration, align and stack manually - not use WBPP. That way you have a few more control over settings.
Hi Shaun, thanks for the tutorial. I puchased your M31 tutorial/data as an intro, but living in the lower latitudes of Australia, a very difficult target. Still, a good intro using my OSC. Having retired, I bought myself a mono camera and filters. There dosn't seem an option to untick CFA any longer in the latest WBPP. Can I assume that WBPP now recognises whether a mono is being used ? It certainly groups them by filter when added via the lights tab. I must be doing something wrong. I use LRGB to combine the channels following WBPP, but always seems to be a greyscale image ?
I am trying to drizzle integrate as you have explained but after loading the drizzle files into the drizzle integration process, the integration fails because the calibrated files don’t exist?! Any ideas would be appreciated.
Hi Shawn, If I only have dark calibration frames for my lights can I still perform this preprocessing in Pixinsight and if so would I use this or another tool?
Thanks very much for this, Shawn! A couple of questions: 1. If one already has the Master Dark and Master Flat files, can they be used as is in WBPS rather than putting in the Dark Files and Flat Files and letting the program calculate the MD and MF? 2. If I don't use Bias files (I use a OSC ZWO ASI 294MC Pro and it is recommended not to) but use Dark Flats (a Master Dark Flat to be more precise) to calibrate my Flats, would you have any isea how to incooperate that into WBPS? Thanks
Yes you can use master dark and master flat files instead. Just make sure they are named "masterdark" as example so WBPP sees it. Needs the word "master" at beginning. Second question... If you use dark flats you don't need bias frames then. So just add the dark flat into the "darks" tab of WBPP, along with the masterdark frame. Hope this helps!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I'm watching this for the 3rd time to properly get and remember everything, but can you please help me out in the preset settings? I have frames of wide field(18mm) Milky Way taken from the city(so obviously quite a bit of light pollution). Which preset would suit me the best in my case? I'm not looking for super professional looking result, but just want to see what's the best Pixinsight can do. (DSS failed for me in the peripheral stars). Please do reply whenever possible. Thank you again for a wonderful resource :)
Another great video. I assume if i was to use master darks etc rather than individual files I would just add them where the normal stack of darks etc would go and check use masters ? Thanks again
Hi Shawn Very helpful. Many thanks for your hard work. Can you please advise where do DARK FLATS go? I use a ZWO OSC, the 294MC Pro, and I have been told not to take Bias subs, but to take DARK FLATS matching the FLATS. DO they go with the DARKS in the same column? Thanks
Two Two more questions please with regards to Dark Flats, Shawn. 1- Under FLATS, since I am using DARK FLATS, do I UNTICK "calibrate with dark flats"? 2- In Global Options, DO I untick OPTIMISE dark frames, again since I am using Dark Flats and no Bias? Many thanks
Shawn, do you notice a difference using master darks and flats versus doing the master integration within the WBP process? I use the ASI294MC Pro which is picky on the calibration frames and have had mixed results using the individual calibration frames. Part of the problem might be needing to use dark flats versus bias frames?
Thank you! I learned quite a few things. I've been getting"ActualReferenceImage: undefined" at registration and it ends with an error. Do you have any tip on what to adjust to avoid this?
Hi Shawn, thanks for pointing me in the direction of this one. Do you generally use WBPP or do you normally process manually? many thanks and clear skies
I'm a new subscriber. Thanks for this great tutorial. It explains things very well. I have a question if you have time. Let's say I have different length subs of the same object, with appropriate darks. Can I add all of them together in WBPP? Will the script sort them for me? An example: in order to avoid the centre of M42 to be blown out I did a set of 5 minute subs and a set of 30 sec. subs. Thanks, Ed

Thanks Shawn, as a newcomer to Pixinsight you've got me up and running quickly here. Much appreciated.
You're back!!! Awesome Shawn! I really enjoy your work!
Yep I'm back. Took a month for YT to fix the hijacking of my account but they did. All ends well!
Fantastic video and just in time. I was just about to use the weighted batch processing script. You just save me a ton of time. Did not know you were hijacked but glad you’re back.

Thanks for the great comment! Glad the tut was helpful. Clear skies!
Very good introduction to the batch script.
Good to have you back
I am glad Shawn! Great video on weighted batch preprocessing!
Thanks Ray - good to be back!
Hey! You got your channel back! Welcome back, good sir.
Yes got it back finally!
Hi Shawn
Great tutorial
All your tutorials have helped me out enormously
Thank you
Thanks Shawn, awesome summary as always, I love BPP, and WBPP makes it even better! Thanks also for the drizzle integration tip at the end, gotta use that more 👍🏻
And he's back... nice!
Thanks Rhett! Cheers.
Glad your back Shawn love your vids.
Glad your back buddy
Thanks!
Great video, thank you. What are to be done with the dark-flat files?
If you use flat darks, put them under the "darks" tab along with your dark frames. Make sure under the "flats" tab that "calibrate with flat darks" is checked.
Excellent, didn’t realize there was a place to check “calibrate with flat darks”, thank you
Nice Shawn, it worked flawlessly for me.

I like your Tutorial, but would ask for an updated version for July 2022...I'm doing the trial version now. Great powerful software! Thanks!
Why it doesn't produce local norm data as well ? i have to do them manually each time? or they aren't needed?
Hi Shawn, If I only have dark calibration frames for my lights can I still perform this preprocessing in Pixinsight and if so would I use this or another tool?
Ok, nice video! And...how about pre-processing data from several sessions? mainly it will need different flats or, sometimes - different darks...?
Thanks very much for this, Shawn! A couple of questions:
1. If one already has the Master Dark and Master Flat files, can they be used as is in WBPS rather than putting in the Dark Files and Flat Files and letting the program calculate the MD and MF?

How do I know if my data is under or oversampled?
Thanks. Very nice. How do I know if my data is under sampled ?
The easiest way is to just look at the stars. Zoom in on them, if they appear blocky/square looking (and not round/smooth) then you're under sampled!
Visibledark Astro thank you
Another great video. I assume if i was to use master darks etc rather than individual files I would just add them where the normal stack of darks etc would go and check use masters ? Thanks again
Yes that is correct!

No I haven't but its a good idea! Will add it to the list. Cheers.

Unfortunately I can't really say since I don't have/use an ASI294MC. What are the mixed results you've had?
Where can I find the script?
Thank you! I learned quite a few things. I've been getting"ActualReferenceImage: undefined" at registration and it ends with an error. Do you have any tip on what to adjust to avoid this?
Not sure off hand. I'd need more info to understand the problem.
Hi Shawn, thanks for pointing me in the direction of this one. Do you generally use WBPP or do you normally process manually? many thanks and clear skies
You can do it manually as well but its a lot of work. WBPP is what I always use and it works very well. IMO. Cheers.
@@VisibledarkAstro that's great to know then, if your happy with it and I've seen your results I'll give it a shot. I usually do it manually

It can sort them out. Just add them in and let WBPP do the heavy lifting!
+1 for your return!
