Thank you so much for putting the screen shot in the corner of your video. It’s so useful to see the set-up you are playing. I wish more keyboard reviewers would follow your example!! Excellent playing, excellent video!
Hello Justin, thank you for our chat this morning and for all your expert advice.I have watched this demo with the link you gave me,it was just fabulous you are a great musician thank you so much. This keyboard is just great!!! will be in touch soon,(and there is nothing wrong with your hair cut!!!) you look great. take care regards to all the lads.Pat.
Finally a demonstrator who also plays something light classical, like the Etherealmovie, but now with new voices added in the OTS. 👍 I have been playing with the T1, T3, T4 and PSR s950/s970 and SX900 for 15 years... I traded the last one 5 months ago for a Genos-1 which is full of (expensive) packs... but now I am doubting whether I should not switch back to this new SX920. Especially important for me is the Expansion memory, the SX900 only has 1GB, my Genos 3GB... but the SX920 has 2GB I see, which is more than enough for me.
After 16 years since introduction of Super Articulation 2, it comes to midclass keyboards. Beside the single outputs, it's the first PSR keyboard, that almost can replace a Tyros 3.
What are the 50 new styles from SX 920? The others are the same from SX900? Is there any improvement when listening to the styles on the SX920 or do they seem to sound the same on both keyboards? Thanks
there is a downloadable style list where you can see all the new styles, even if you pick the same style as you had before on SX900 you can definitely tell there is an improvement and all the OTS are better because of the higher spec sounds, of course it will still sound similar but better. hope that helps but if you want a bigger difference then of course there is Genos 1 which would cost about the same
There are lots of better patches across other categories, the organs though are basically the same as SX900 but do sound better in the flesh due to other improvements
Good question! on paper its down as the same but it definitely felt a lot smoother, there could be a number of reasons for this, but it definitely felt smoother which is why I questioned it at the time as it felt more like a Genos action. I only had it for the day so when they start coming in properly we will be able to sit it next to an SX900 and compare.
This does my head in that these stores and sellers don't tell you the proper truthful specs. Here I will. Genos 1 has 390 super articulation voices, 75 super articulation 2 voices, 491 Pro styles, 39 session styles, 19 free play. Genos 2 has 437 super articulation voices, 106 super articulation 2 voices, 141 FM voices, 720 Pro styles, 69 session styles, 11 free play. SX 920 has 340 super articulation voices, 12 super articulation 2 voices, 15 super articulation X voices, 520 Pro styles, 49 session styles, 6 free play styles.
I just bought a new PSR-SX900 a couple of months ago. Now this comes out. Disappointing in my timing. Can these new voices be purchased and sound the same on SX-700/900’s? Thanks for any information on this. Michael
Hi Michael, it all depends what you paid for the SX900, in our case, we haven't sold an SX900 for more than £1399 in the last 3 months, so if you'd paid that its maybe not so bad?
in answer to your question though, no you can never make an sx900 sound like an SX920 or a genos 1 sound like a genos 2, yes there are lots of sounds/styles that we can add ( free of charge) but it still won't do that it will always sound like an SX900, not that thats bad of course, its still a good keyboard, really if I was you though if you were going to change I'd get the Genos because that will cost you the same as an SX920 and its still a lot better
@@achamilton Thanks for your response. I guess part of my question is…. Are there hardware changes that prevent the SX900 from sounding like the SX920? If one were to install Genos1 sounds into a SX900 as an example.
@@michaeljorcutt3142 Hi Michael, another way of putting it is the better sounds simply don't exist on an SX900 and can never exist, for example the premium SA2 voices on SX920 will never exist and will never be able to be added to SX900.
@@achamilton Ok. Understand. However one can purchase the Genos Pack from Synthcloud and can definitely be uploaded into a PSR SX, Tyrus. Etc. So, I wouldn’t necessarily say never.
Hi, I am not sure what you mean... Style creator does not have a chord function because you are creating style sections, not a chord sequence. You have step edit for notes in the style creator mode. If you are meaning Chord Step Edit in song creator when using a user style. then I have just double checked this on Genos and Sx920 and that is no problem at all.
What puzzles me is, why people are still musing over Yamahas home arranger product lifecycles. Since 30 years every 4 years or so comes a new generation of home arrangers. The trickle down of sounds from the top arrangers has also always been as it is now. I remember buying the PSR-540 (1999, a pre-pre-predecessor of the PSR-SX600) which had one sweet voice :-) of the five sweet voices the top arranger PSR-8000 (1997, The Champ) had. The trick is to buy top arrangers and enjoy a longer lifecycle without worrying over minor trickle downs. For some reason, a Tyros always sounded better than a PSR. Maybe because of better circuitry, better EQing and effects, definitely because of better (or more of the high quality) voices. The same goes for the Genos. It takes several generations of PSR to blur the lines, meaning if I had a Tyros 4, I might consider buying a PSR-SX900 instead. Even the Tyros 5 is too advanced to be substituted by the PSR-SX900, which, for instance, doesn't feature ensemble or S.Art2 voices. If you already own a Genos 1, you could easily wait out the lifespan of Genos 2 and maybe upgrade to Genos 3 in 2028 or so. I own a Montage 8 and the Montage M is just not compelling enough. The top level Yamaha products can be enjoyed a lot longer than mid tier in my experience. A friend of mine bought an AvantGrand N3 in 2011, it still is a very inspiring instrument, while a lesser CLP of that time might have become outdated. I had bought a CLP-470 around that time, which was done for after maybe 2 years, because of outdated sound engine and keybed. PS: the keys on a Genos are definitely better than PSR keys and playability is an integral part of fun.
We are still the same, the rhythms are copies of songs, where is the musical creativity if we only repeat the songs as they are and we are tired of listening to them. I have bought the Genos 1 and a month later they bring me the 2 where they left us without system updates, a treacherous move by Yamaha for those of us who spent more than 4,300 euros and now that keyboard is not worth 2,000 euros because it is already discontinued, too bad Yamaha!!!!!! In the end we pay for the novelty, but not the possibility of creating, because they already give you everything done. That is not the way, Yamaha!!!
This Latin Style sounds like a Lionel Richie´s song All Night Long.. I wonder and hope this Mini Genos II had Style of Haddaway´s 1993 EuroDance song What is Love?
They give you a demonstration (they tell you to "like"), etc. etc., and they're not even able to answer the questions that the musicians watching are asking. It's a disgrace. Just to get "likes" on UA-cam in fact. When you're on UA-cam, the minimum you can do is respect the people watching and asking for information. Michel-Henri (France).
Yamaha in next launch the SX940, 950, 975, 1000, 1020, 1040, 1050, 1070 and so on, it is such a greed to make money that one comes out worse than the other All with the same tones of the Tyros, Genos etc. line, change the box, display, buttons and the keys are the same shit toy keyboard and the tones are the same since the PSR 620, PSR 3000 etc.
Yamaha should reconsider the PSRE. They always keep releasing the same PSRE keyboard with different numbers and box. Sounds are absolute trash and very artificial, which comes from 90s PSRs that you can probably literally find and lying on landfills and junk pile today. Yamaha should release the 483 with PSRS voices already.

Thanks for this Justin I love the sound from the dark pad it’s just stunning! Your demo and playing is brilliant!
Sounds excellent you play so perfectly well. I’m sure your audience including myself would LOVE to hear the new improved vocoder/vocal harmoniser.
I enjoyed the video. I also read where Yamaha implemented their second generation sound engine which is incredible to hear 💪😎

Hello Justin I very much enjoyed your video the keyboard sounds amazing 🎹👍
Hallo Justin, great and so pro video about this new psr 920. 😉👍👏👏
Can the PSR SX920 be used as a USB audio interface, while connecting to iPad or Mac ?
Like sx600 does.
+1 to the question @achamilton
Hi, I'm afraid not no, there seems to be no built in USB Audio Interface.
@@achamilton It sounds not great. It looks like Yamaha just added RAM to older hardware without actually upgrading it.😞

yes there are 15 SA2 voices , not as much as Genos of course but it still makes a big difference along with many other improvements

The Yamaha pack : Churchorgan (is free) and you have 50 classical church organ voices.👍
I love my sx900 feat, sx920

As teclas pretas do SX 900 parecem um pouco soltas, não fixas como as de um piano. O SX 920 melhorou essas teclas pretas ??
