CORRECTION. I have been told that I was misinformed. This is a 5.0L 305ci 215hp and 275tq engine. NOT A 5.7.
Correct, GM put the 305 in stick shift cars so as not to compete with Corvette.
Yeah I was wondering because I have one with the 5.7 350 and when you got on it I instantly knew it was a 305 I figured the trans was swapped because the 5.7 350 cars never had the option for the T5 Manual simply because the torque of the 350 blew them to peices
The T5 manual couldn't handle the torque of the 350 TPI. They made a new T5 for later models called the WCT5(World class T5) and it's said it could handle the torque better and was alot more solid. Still wasn't put behind the 5.7 tho
Great car anyway!!!
I was about to say the same thing there was not a 5.7 with the stick shift it was on the automatics
The best Camaro generation ever produced. 1982-1992.
Ehh id say my favorite years are 78-84 the tail end of the 2nds and the first 3 years of the 3rd gen Z28s are perfect. 85-89s ehh, ok what ever but i cant stand the 90-92s 😝
@@UsefulEntertainment Damn, I actually agree with that.
One of the coolest cars ever made if you ask me. I love their sound. I had an 89 5.7L 350 TPI with t tops. 4 speed auto transmission was a turd but all the power was there and it sure was fun just to slow cruise around while it rumbled. Mine was white with tan interior. Just gorgeous. Lost a T-Top that didnt latch right once though and it just broke my heart. I eventually sold it trying to be responsible. That was stupid.
I was in love with these cars when they came out.
I bought an 89 IROC with T-tops, the 5.0L TPI 305 engine, with a 5 speed manual bolted to the 305.
It has 126,000 miles on it & is in mint condition, runs great, & can still turn a couple of heads from older guys like me that loved these cars from day 1.
Mine has the same exhaust he mentioned, love the rumble😆😆
Nothing else is as pretty as the iroc-z Camaro, 5 SPD is a 305 but the tpi 305 5 SPD did get up and go
I don't care about being the fastest it's fast enough for me
@@Damonslayton-nc2lp... in '89 you could check option box N10 to get a true dual cat exhaust in the 5-speed cars. You'd know if that's what you had without crawling under the car, the passenger side floorboard was shaped different that the single cat cars.
Only cool in mad max
I was six years old, my neighbours dad bought him one for his sixteenth birthday, it was blue, I’ll never forget that car.
What was so special about it?
Its special in its self bro lol
It’s not that it special, it’s prob because it’s the first time I ever thought a car was cool, like I said I was six.
81 Baby also!! My uncle had a red one, and his brother had a Supra, and their youngest brother had 300ZX ... love getting in those cars
I had an 89. I’d take that over the overpriced garbage of today.
Back in my early 20's I had an 85 IROC. Loved it. Recently I bought a 1991 Z-28. 350 with automatic is strong. Reliving my youth.
Iroc wasn't available in 1985!
@@ralphhartzell9201 It was, 1985-90.
NIcE car ya hav ( i went to houston 5 months ago haha i saw only 1 car there from the 80s it was heavy heavy traffic there too !)
i hav & drive a 2000 mustang GT it has a 5 speed manual sir i RECOMMEND that ya get sum mufflers for it like flowmasters ! wow she would sound great!
@@ralphhartzell9201 Yes it was ,, 1985 was the 1st year IROC Z28, they were gutless
Same with me. Had 85 with a camed carbed 350 disc posi. 13.2 . Daytona hood with California wing yellow . Just bought a 92 convertible and doing makeover now . Have fun .
Iroc Z Camaros > Any other Camaro
It does seem to be the peak of all other camaros
I have the same car with the 5.7 and 13,000 miles. After driving the car , you realize how far along suspension has come. But the car is so fun to drive.
Absolutely!
Actually, the Camaro went from earlier A-frames to struts in 1980's... and then back to A-frames... after GM realized its mistake in cheapening out...
I lived in this era. I was 18 yrs old just out of HS when the 1982 z28 dropped. It was a dream for me. Long story short, I ended up with a fully loaded slick top automatic red on silver in November of '82. yes sure it was the slowest and lowest-rated HP z28 ever produced but I was a kid and I did not think about those things. It looked and sounded fast and mean, that was what mattered to us in 1982. Good ole days. I am getting so old ugh.
I remember the IROC coming out in '85 and I wanted it so bad but I kept what I had and I really had many a good year in it. Kept it mint and it was a head-turner for many years.
A very nice example of an IROC you have here.
It's a 5.0 with a spd
No, it's a 305 TPI or HO... Unless you modified the crap out of them, you couldn't get a stock 5.7 TPI teamed with a stock 5 speed... The cars then would be able to compete with the Corvette of the time, with the advantage actually going to the less expensive IROC, believe it or not... GM wasn't about to go for that!
What a dope! There were NO L69 cars in 1987. Therefore, this would be an LB9/MM5 car. Class dismissed 😂
They do not make a 350tpi with a standard your right
Riddle me this boy wonder. You obviously are driving a manual 5 speed in an 87' IROC Z28 now you didn't say that the car has a swapped engine. So with that all 5.7 350cu IROC Z28 came only in automatic transmissions not one of them even if you wanted to special order it came with a 5 speed. Only the 5.0l 305cu engines came with the 5 speeds
You would be correct. Even the dealership says its a 5.0L I just assumed the same year had the same engine but different transmission. I appreciate your correction.
@@garage_ninety_nine thanks for the reply back, I love the IROC Z28 and 2nd and 4th gen Trans Am. I've owned 3 IROC Z28's 2 automatic with 5.7l and 1 5.0l 5speed manual. Texting kind of sux because people can take what you text the wrong way. My comment was made in fun and jest because we're all car aficionados. Thanks again for the video for us motorheads
@Jeremy Linton are you calling garage 99 a douchebag or you trying to call me a douchebag? If it's for me who cares I'm no snowflake lol
25 years ago I was the youngest guy at my new manufacturing job. We had our Christmas party at a fancy restaurant. My buddy had a ROC just like this one and he let me and my date use it. I pulled up with my girl in front of everyone and looked and felt like a Rock Star. 😎
Even in today's world that car gives people the same feeling!
These were so underappreciated ... not anymore its Iroc Time! Their value has gone up big time
yea its annoying. idiots are asking $5k for their clapped V6 third gen. Makes finding good deals more difficult and time consuming. Ive been all over Craigslist, Offerup, FB Marketplace and everyone is asking too much. Im literally at the point where im driving around going from door to door asking if the third gen on the side of their yard is for sale. Wish I was financially on my feet earlier. Now im too late. Frustrating
@@shootermcgavin2819 I felt the same way too, and also the Lexus s300
Had four of these camaros now I'm 50 years old and looking to get another one.
Awesome! I just turned 50. We have 3 irocz in the family. Still love them.
I got two for sale a 86 z28 iroc-z hard top and a 1989 iroc-z t-top both red
@@the1andonlygreen how much asking
@@salehprohim9812 Turning 48 in a week. Dad had a 70 Formula 400 when I was born and an 87 Formula 5.0 TPI when I was a teenager. Thanks to him I spend every free penny on bikes and cars.
@@thepassionofthegoose5472 sounds like you got some good memories. thank you for sharing. Happy early birthday, best wishes.
I gave my second son my first irocz that I drove in high for his graduation present 2 years. Definitely feels nice to know that you kid has the same interest. Take care!
I had a 1989... let's see 👀 typical sloppy seat belt lol and cigarette lighter ready to fall out as your driving 🤣 I do miss that car.
Fix it
The mullet missile 😂
Bruh ur driving one sweet piece of machinery ... awsome car and manual... wow. T-tops is a must!!
My first car was an 84 z28. Looked and sounded way better than it ran lol. Fox bodys consistantly blew my doors off.
Foxes had weight advantage, and if the z had the 305 power was similar too. Not surprising they'd run you back then. But your car looked way better so
You must have had an LG4. Most L69s will get into the 14s with ease.
Absolutely love those cars.
Takes me back to 1989 when I first drove an '85 Z-28.
Very nice ride. I have an 1989 with the L98. It is interesting to see your take as you get out of an Older Mustang into an Iroc.
You got yourself a sub.
I bought a brand new 86 iroc 305 5 sp after being discharged (honorable 😅) from the the army in 86 Savannah Ga. Brought it to southern California in 89 and it got stolen shortly after. I really miss that car.
thats so cool to hear! thank you for your service!
We want to see the car not ur face
You ok dude?? Please examine your heart.
It's a 305 with 215 hp numb nuts. And they offered these in a myriad of colors. Stop saying how Chevy and Pontiac always went with red and gold, because they didn't lol.
I would love to drive one around my town wearing 80's gear . So cool.
I remember, my sister traded her ‘85 300zx for a white ‘88 iroc, she kept it until ‘92 when hurricane andrew flipped it
Oh man I'm sorry to hear that! Sounds like she had some fun 80s cars!
I liked the looks of these cars. But what I didn`t like was the ride quality or that everytime you hit a bump it sounded like a box of bolts rattling in the doors like a cheap pos.
I STILL want a 1985 Camaro... that era Camaro is sooo BEAUTIFUL 😍
I feel like the 3rd gen IROC/Z28 was the Ferrari of the 80s.
Thought the 5-speed only came in a 305 not a 350 5.7
Correct that's a 305 car
Yes and that is NOT an LT motor.
Well at least he seen his huge mistake. & just a FYI. They never came factory with strut tower braces. I hate mis leading videos. It’s not stock when you have add on’s 😢
I never said they came from factory with a strut tower brace. Im simply reviewing a z28 that was for sale at the time of this video and it just so happens to have strut braces. I promise those braces don’t make a noticeable difference in driver feel. It’s still basically stock, just not all original.
Suspension broken, seems like a rough ride?
Did he say taking the ttops off seems like a lot of work? 😂😂😂😂😂
Only because it's not my car and I've never done it before lol
I drove 1 with a 5 speed and it was a good time
like a go cart that sounds cool
I had a 88' IROC convertible, and foolishly sold it. I loved getting knocked back in my seat, and I can still smell that interior. My aunt had a few brand new ones as she'd trade them in every year. This was an awesome car! Chevy should bring it back even if they no longer have the IROC rights.
You Couldn't Get A 5 Speed With The 350, I'm Told.
Correct check my pinned comment
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Junk unless you engine swap !!!!
cant be stock.. GM didnt make a 5.7L T top manual vehicle.
Correct its a 5.0
With hp of a fiat, and safety of lada.
Miss my 91 formula. 5.0 auto
1 way to gain interactions and views is to mention stats that aren’t correct, haha. I cruised the comments before watching the video.
Anyway, I had 1 of these, it was a fun car. Thanks for the drive down memory lane.
Lol I know I was misinformed in the first place. Guess I still have to do my own research to start with
I miss my Z28's and my mullet 😪
I hope to God that that thing is not a pissy automatic. I prefer a third pedal and a stick please
only the good stuff here! 5 speed manual.
The 1987 IROC did not come standard with a 5 spd. behind the behind the 5.7 liter. The 5 spd. only came behind the 5 liter. I owned one with the 5 spd. and the 5 liter.
Correct!
Nicest camaros ever built in my eyes
I completely agree I had an 87 and I miss that car everyday
Buddy had 1987 new it was a Piece of junk bad valve seals from the factory car would smoke upon start up, Electric Fans caused engine to overheat , AC would never work just another Piece of grabage built by GM. Fox body style 5.0 Mustangs back in those days were much better built cars.
the Z28 TPI 5.0 engine with a 5 speed went all the way up to 235 HP and 295 torque the 5.7 was only available in 700R4 and only made 240 HP and 350 torque an easy upgrade for these cars to handle power is install the TKX T5 manual good for 600 FT/LB torque and is a bolt in replacement for the T5 which in only good for 300 FT/LB torque
I have a 4th gen LS1/T56 Camaro SS and its a blast to drive!
✊😫 AMERICA FUCK YEAH !
Had an 89 iroc , 90 formula , 85 firebird, now a fourth gen......yeah, i kinda like F-body's 👍
yup, currently got an 88 Iroc-Z 305tbi 5-speed, and also had a 92 350tpi 700R4 G92 high wing spoiler, Black on grey interior-that was totaled by a girl texting coming off the freeway about 55mph...
Did you beat her face in with her cell phone?
@@UsefulEntertainment wish...she even got let go of by the cop with no DL, no insurance probably cause she was 21 and showing some clevage with that v-neck. So I went to the police station and filed a report as why did this officer let her go and drive off while my 92 camaro was crippled...I had talked to a Capatain, he told me her license was suspended...after that he kept quiet while going through his computer. Then he assured me this will be under investigation as what he saw on that monitor....probably a warrant-thats why it was suspended
5.7 with 5speed was never available
Thats correct
But in the firehawk you could get a 350hp 5.7 with a 6sp in a gen 3!
To settle the engine size debate....
Look in the sticker located inside the hood....tells the engine size
OR. LOOK AT THE RPO CODE SHEET located on the inside of the center console glove box....
Why do so many grown men drive Miatas???
They are incredible drivers cars with plenty of entry level driving/racing opportunities in the motorsports world!
Hope someone else put that 350 in there because u can’t get a 5.7 with a stick....
Its a 5.0 I corrected myself lol
I love them cars and want one with a 5 speed .
Those things are so cool. They handle great and are so perfect encapsulation of the 80's style
My dad used to own a z28 he crashed it :(
Im so sorry to hear that!
Not an LT motor
I was an 80's kid born in 1973, the IROC Z was then & still is my unicorn, one day I will hopefully be able to get one in similar condition as yours...
REALLY..
Born in 73 as well. Dad had an 87 Formula and his buddy had an 88 IROC. Both 5.0 TPI with a 5-speed. Fun cars that could properly go around a corner. Cheers.
"we got rock n roll music, blastin' out the t-tops"
I rode in an '85 Z28 about 25 years ago. It was fast!
Its style ....somethings thats almost lost now. Look around ...Suvs & economy cars everywhere
I wish it had the original delco radio with the built in 5 band EQ and AM Stereo radio; nevertheless nice car!
Owner forgot those cheesy box dubs and speakers from pepboys
That 305 does not have that amount of torque. The 350 does but that is a 5 spd and they only come with 5.0 witch produces 290 ftlbs.
Hmm that's good to know thanks. I try to teach myself about each of the cars before I drive em but I don't always hit the nail on the head lol.
cars back then , the little differences ,, where different. hahah
Exactly what I was gonna say. sweet car none the less. I've always wanted one since high school. Maybe one of these days. i like the black and gold ones.
In the last years of the 3rd gen, the Lb9 was rated at 300 lbs/ft
@@ChrisBrown-pz2gu I agree but not the year i roc presented in video
Remember these as LHD imports.....they looked great then and still do.
Is this car for sell and where ?
No, it sold only a week or two after this video went up.
They didn't put a 225hp with a five speed so it's probably the 180hp 305 car
170HP
All '87 5.0 (LB9) TPI's motors were rated at 215 hp.
You drove a Miata and wanted to put the t-tops down....please stop! 😂
I think this used to be my old iroc i miss it!!!!!!!!!!!!🤔
UH, the 5.7 liter did not have a 5-spd attached from factory...it's a 5.0 liter.
Right you are!
Is it for sale how much
It is not for sale anymore! Sorry.
I would do just about anything if I can click on a 80s Camaro video and not hear anymore mullet jokes, I'm pretty burned out from hearing them. I realize it's too late on this one, but if anyone reads this and has plans on doing a 3rd gen video I'm hoping you can hold off on the mullet reference, thanks in advance.
Sorry, not sorry! Can’t help myself lol.
@@garage_ninety_nine I watched a repair video the other day and a couple of guys were wearing mullet wigs, I was like ugh this again..it never ends. Haha...
Ok, the 5 speed tells me 305 TBI, but the motor at the end tells me 350 TPI lol. Looks like they converted to 5 speed or dropped a 350 in it.
You can't tell the difference visually between a TPI 305 and a TPI 350.
It's a TPI 305
It's more than likely a 305 TPI. You can't tell the difference between a 305 and a 350 while it's in the car.
No TBI in 87 Thirdgens. It also has "TUNED PORT INJECTION" emblem on the bumper which eludes to 5.0, if it was a 350 it would say 5.7 LITER TUNED PORT INJECTION. Personally id rather have the 5 spd/5.0 than the 5.7/auto.
Your comment tells me you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. The L03 didn’t appear until 1988. This would be an LB9/MM5.
I was 11 and my older brother had this one.
Same color. Great ride.
I had an Iroc just like that! I miss it!
I love the irocs they are acc really cheap in Canada haha
I had an 83 Z28 with Ttops loved/hated that car. Loved it because it was a so much fun Hated because it had a very moody Crossfire 305 in it.
You must not have known how to properly set up/maintain your LU5. I’ve been daily driving, modifying, and racing CFI cars for over 25 years. They’re extremely reliable.
@@Joesmusclecargarage to be fair I was 17 at it was my second car. Not gonna lie I did not know nearly enough. It was a very unique motor that’s for sure.
3:50 Blue Toyota Corolla thought you were racing...Corolla owner "wheres the Nos button"?
That Corolla would take this car most likely. My 87 T/A had the 305 and 5 speed. I got beat one day across an intersection by some falling apart 4 door corolla type car. I don't think he even knew I was trying to out-accelerate him (my lane merged over in to his, I was trying to get over in front of the traffic behind him).
Now, I've got near 400hp in an LS1 in the car, I refuse to be embarrassed like that again!
I cringed when you slammed the hatch - set it down gently, press till it clicks and let the power motor pull it down. This is why a lot of them are broken, slamming it like an old school trunk. Nice car.
Sorry mate! It's pretty hard to learn every single mechanism on every single car in the first 10 minutes I see a car for the first time. Wouldn't you agree?
@@garage_ninety_nine Yes, it is, I agree. I blame the owner of the car for not telling you, clearly you are just learning about these cars so you should have been told. Cheers.
I'm an Iroc guy too! Love these cars! I reatore them!

What is up with those shitty seats.. my dad had an 83 camero and its seats were much nicer
Couldn't tell you but they were pretty comfy
See how easy it is to see out of?
That one sounds like it needs shocks
Why does everyone slam the hatch on these things? It's not a trunk
Hard to tell some close like a trunk and some close themselves with an electronic latch. Didn't expect a car this age to have that tech on it.
anyone know what are the differences between the 1984 z28 from the 1984 sports coupe? I just bought it and can't find enough information anywhere

My best friend in high school got this exact car as his first. We would cruise in that thing blaring creed and loving life (as you do when close to death, and you're always close to death in an old Camaro). So many memories. So many close brushes.
"always close to death in a old Camaro" too true mate as someone who owns a 95 mustang vert yeah driving any old American "sports" car is signing a death warrant but the sn95 vert is probably the worst due to no structural ridgedness to it at all
