Bit late to this but I live in Torquay and can confidently say that a big trip isn't worth it just to surf Bells. Winki's a far better wave but gets really crowded. If you head south past Bells and beyond Anglesea you'll find a plethora of less crowded yet equally good beachies, reefs, and points to surf. Ultimately I think the appeal of this place is its natural beauty and the sheer amount and variety of waves in the area. Happy travelling!
Just recently subscribed to your channel. As an avid surfer from the east coast of US (NC), the waves where I live are decent so surf travel is a must. Now that I'm dialed in to your channel, I can get a in depth & realistic perspective on some new places that I have not traveled to but are on my radar. Keep up the good work mate and thanks for all you do 🤙
Yeah I like it!! Yeah to be honest 4/3mm no boots would be ok, or even a brand new 3/2mm for a quick surf... And booties wouldn't go a miss either, especially for walking over the reef on a cold morning!!
Tick off the list. Does that mean you go back to England after its done? Try living on the surf coast for a few years. Look at each break on their good days. Bells is famous for a reason and that is when all 3 breaks join up, yes it has 3. I have surfed the best waves in Australia since 1973, all my boards made by Michael Anthony, all my wetties by Rip Curl. When it gets big like it did in 2010 for a few constant months, boys who ‘rip’ like you were on the beach. My 7’2” gun came out and I enjoyed Bells for what it is, one of the best and most dangerous waves in Oz. Hughesie
Bells is legit heavy water when it has a proper groundswell pushing into it. People who say its a soft wave or anything don't know what they are on about. Even Italo got pushed into the button and said that was one of the heaviest experiences of his life.@@DanHarmon123
Yeah dont kno why some surfers have a problem with sharing waves at a public beach .guess the get over inflated egos and think they have some entitlement thing over others to surf certain breaks but nah i never see crowns on any of these guys heads Lol call me a wanker for no reason and your getting popped in the mouth no matter who you are
It was just like surfing any other beach too me, nothing really stood out, except the Aus accents all around, HEY WANKER get off me wave, If I closed me eyes I would think I was surfing in me typical Cali beach break otherwise. Just another beach just miles from home. Only went there several times because my job took me there, otherwise after the first time, I would have never even went back.🇺🇸🍻✌🏻
Just want to say I really appreciate your everyman reviews of major surf locations. Great stuff!
Hey mate! Thanks so much, so stoked you enjoy some realistic insights haha!!

Appreciate the straight honesty about its not worth flying to, right on
I grew up surfing on Surf Coast, heaps of great breaks. I probably surfed Winki a couple of hundred times and Bells once lol
Yep every time I go to surf bells I can’t bring myself to not surf winki😂
Thanks for sharing as always my friend Keep em coming and Be well 👍🤙
Thanks Michael!! Heaps of vids coming your way!!

Hey Nick! Thanks so much and so stoked you enjoy the videos!! Looking forward to sending more helpful surf travel info your way :)
sunrise surf looked so sick 🔥
Was so beautiful mate! Absolutely freezing though!!
nice drone shots
Bells is such a beautiful mellow wave. What month did you visit? 3/2 June at Byron was warm enough. Do you need 4/3 and booties for Bells June-aug?

Way to go buddy. Greetings from Bluff beach ⛱️.

Hahah!! Yeah, basically... I can imagine it to be so fun when it's like that!

To buzz5969 one less in the water
Bells gets better 8ft+, not as mellow 😜
Yup. Big Bells is world class.

God help a normal guy tryna get a wave in Hawaii or oz
Yeah Hawaii for sure, and yeah there's some crowded spots in Aus as well. At least in Aus, you can head off-track and find some waves to yourself!!

Hahhaha!! Sounds about right!! Describes everyone's experience at crowded Aussie breaks!!😂😂
Good don't come back.
I’m guessing that wasn’t your dog, surely too hard to travel as much as you do with a dog in tow.
Get a grip, BS
As both a SoCal native and having surfed Bells on a proper day, I can say your comment is just another piece of digital toilet paper.
