great review!! I love it, but think it will be on my rental list, not my buy list. It would have to be a complete toy, to many kids for this type of toy.
Yeah that's a growing segment, people accepting that renting toys vs. buying them outright is a smarter way to go. Try different things cheap!
Thanks for the review! I was crazy excited about these when I first saw the Jay Leno review. My quick test ride at a local dealer was hugely disappointing though. I’m curious if it was just a bad vehicle. With just a few thousand miles, the Bump shifter was broken, drivers seat belt latch wouldn’t stay latched, some hood screw starting to rust, some tears in the vinyl. More critical was the unbelievably huge turning radius - like a Ford F350 (!). To me there was a very large lag from when you pushed the accelerator, to the turbo spooling to the transmission getting the go ahead to move. Lastly, the turbo pop off valve was active every time you backed off the throttle - a big whoosh of air. Sounded like an air actuated ride at Disney! I would love to think it was just this vehicle since your experience was a lot different. Did you experience any of these? Thanks!
Hate to hear that Tom, but I can understand your position given those issues. So far we have not seen any issues with the bump shifters on either of the rental Vanderhalls they have here, but there is an issue with the standard shifter in the middle getting hung up in reverse when trying to park/leave in one of them. It was tinkered with though and it could have been a result of that. The other stuff you mention we have not seen, the screws seem to be stainless steel and while they do not sit out in the weather between rentals, they do see weather while rented. The turning radius is ridiculous though! I thought I mentioned that in the review, but if I did not, I should have. The steering rack is at least quick, but the lock/radius is pretty bad I agree. The lag/softness is noticeable, it never moves with any sort of aggression, but I also exclusively used the bump shifter in manual mode, so that may have helped keep it from being quite as laggy as you may have experienced. The transmission in auto mode is way too quick to try and get into top gear for fuel econ. I actually liked the turbo BOV sound, but it is pretty obnoxious and not for everyone.
Hope that covers it though, thank you for responding. Maybe check out a Campagna T-Rex if you ever get the chance. It might meet your expectations a little better than the Vanderhall.
killboydotcom thanks for the reply. I hope some of these issues are just teething pains. Since I couldn’t use the bump shifter, that may explain the differing opinion on acceleration. The look and the concept hits a lot of the things I’d look for in a fun vehicle. I’ve imagined a retro cool bracket with Givi style hard bags for weekend getaway storage!
Great review. I am seriously looking at one of these as a 50th b-day gift to myself. How was the seating position? I am 6 foot, 225 lbs.
It is a little cramped. I am 5-11 and had to have all of the leg room there was, but my legs are kind of long. You should definitely try one on first.

There may be a top for it now, there wasn't at the time we filmed this, but they also have another model called the "Carmel" that has a "top" and suicide doors. It's open all around, like a bikini hard shell top.

@@Buzbikebklyn1 There is a youtuber named Texas Oatmeal who had a fabric top and frame made for his Venice, it was extremely pricey but cheaper than buying a Carmel. The Carmel also has "doors" that open suicide style, I just drove one last week in Daytona Beach, absolute riot! And I ordered a Venice base model same day.

There is a little space behind the seats, about the size of a carry on bag.
Vanderhall makes a luggage rack for behind the hoops and over the gas tank filler cap and there are a couple of aftermarket set ups as well.
