"Happiest Season" is a romantic comedy film directed by Clea DuVall, released in 2020. The movie follows the story of a young woman named Abby, played by Kristen Stewart, who plans to propose to her girlfriend Harper, portrayed by Mackenzie Davis, during Harper's family Christmas celebration. However, Abby discovers that Harper has not come out to her conservative family, and the holiday takes an unexpected turn as Abby navigates the challenges of keeping their relationship a secret.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Kristen Stewart as Abby, Mackenzie Davis as Harper, and other notable actors such as Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Mary Steenburgen, and Victor Garber. "Happiest Season" explores themes of love, acceptance, and the complexities of coming out within the context of a festive family gathering.
What I don’t like about the movie is that, we don’t get any focus or storyline of Harper.
Explanation why she acting the way she is, as we just supposed to dislike and hates her character.
Because what Riley said about and while, we don’t get any of Harper. Side of the story to see if it even true or not, we supposed accept Riley words for it.
Or because Harper either ignored and not spending time with her girlfriend Abby.
I just think that Harper was done and written dirty in the whole entire movie, which was sort of unfair and wasn’t done well as I think.
Harper’s family got a little bit more scene time or focus. Even I think Riley got more screen time than Harper, who supported to be a minor character and not meant to that important.
While Harper who supposed to be Abby love interest not Riley.
I also, don’t understand why a lot of people in a comment. Wants Abby to be with a complete stranger, that she just met and hardly knows that much about.
All we know that Riley could be as bad as Harper or Riley have an another side of her, just because what happened her in the past by Harper doesn’t make her any better then Harper.
Like I said, Abby just met Riley like a few days ago. To be good an enough reason to consider that for Abby should go with, a complete stranger that she hardly knows about her.
Because she told a story about, what happened to her with Harper. As how we do know that she didn’t just made it up, just cause tension as like I said. As we don’t anything side of Harper the story, we just supposed to take Riley’s words.
We just supposed hates Harper for that, just Riley said so to Abby to take it as the fact.
Love the movie, but I kinda hate. How Harper was written to be a bad partner, to both Abby and Riley and while Abby was written. Too innocent and the victim character in the entire movie, while Riley was written too likeable of a minor character.
For me to even like or care about that much as it focus, too scene of Abby hanging around with Riley. Instead more scene Abby and Harper together in the movie as I feel like, the writer try too hard to make Harper too much the bad guy of the film.
While I think they did her character dirty, while they made Abby and Riley too much. Of a sympathise, innocent and likeable characters to like.
I don’t think that Harper was the problem, I think Abby is the problem as I think. She kinda weak of a person in my opinion, because she keep on accepted and agreed to everything.
I don’t think Harper was even try that hard, convincing Abby to do anything or everything. I mean, Harper didn’t have or need to manipulated Abby. (It not she a abuser of a person or anything.)
But Abby just quickly accepted it without, a second thought for she made a decision. Like when she finally decided to leave, after the crap she gone through and everything.
She quickly to accept to stay, after Harper ask her too without. Any real effort to convince her.
Abby only decided to leave for good, after she finally see the real Harper. And she again accepted Harper apology and forgave her, without Harper even have try hard to convince Abby.
She also forgiven the twin kids for what, they to her and accepted their apology. Honestly, I couldn’t feels that sorry for Abby, if she was that easy to convince. By not a good person that didn’t, need to try that hard to convince her.
I don’t think Harper a manipulator, because she never force Abby into anything. Abby just easily accept and agreed to it. Sure Harper maybe a terrible person, but she isn’t that of bad person.
She just made a bad decision in her life, even though she it doesn’t excuse. What she had done to Riley in the past, but she isn’t perfect and she isn’t evil neither.
I think in my opinion I don’t think that, Harper was unlikable, character or even that hateable.
I just think that her character wasn’t written that well and made her a bad guy, pretty much for no reason as I think that was kind of pretty lame.
And the written to make Abby more likeable and more relatable to her character, didn’t give Harper any proper development in the whole story.
I think this movie was ok, I think the plot was all over the place. I think story would be work better, if this was a TV series as the story could’ve been flushed a little bit better.
As I think the movie rushes to quick and plot-line seem either missing or not put in, Harper being chewed out by her older sister seems lazy and bad way or Harper.
To get a taste of her medicine and her sister as Sloane, didn’t have a good enough reason to do to her.
Also the ended could have done a little better as I feel like, all the characters need to be flushed out or at least. Give Harper little bit more focus in the story, not just Abby.
