- We were joined by writer and Birzeit University lecturer Abdeljawad Omar to talk about the situation in the West Bank and the resistance across Palestine.
As seemingly interminable negotiations to end the genocidal war drag on - facing obstacle after obstacle placed by Israel and its American sponsors - the resistance continues to erode Israel’s military power.
In the beginning of the livestream, associate editor Nora Barrows-Friedman covered the latest headlines in a brief news report on the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Since 7 October, Israel’s military has intensified its raids into occupied West Bank cities, towns and refugee camps. These attacks have wrought widespread devastation, severely damaging electricity networks, water and sewage infrastructure, uprooting roads and destroying homes.
Israel has killed more than 550 Palestinians in the West Bank alone since that date, while seizing more Palestinian land for colonization and moving to consolidate its effective annexation of the West Bank.
Meanwhile, at any other time in Palestinian history, the resistance to Israel’s lethal military raids and colonial encroachments in the occupied West Bank could have earned the title of a third intifada - were they not now overshadowed by the genocide in Gaza.

I’m from South Africa 🇿🇦 and can tell you as someone whose folks experienced directly the strong arm of the coloniser. We grew up with tales our folks told us about the belligerent boer regime. It was a cruel regime. It had no mercy. In fact, they thrive on seeing bloodshed. The more they blood-let, the more they get a bigger craving for it.
There’s no other way but to fight because these wanton individuals will not rest until they get total submission& or subjugation from yourselves. They only understand the language of violence.
And in closing, I want to leave you with few words from Frantz Fanon:

One day, an IDF soldier was vacationing on stolen land in the West Bank. To pass the time, he and his wife would join other apartheid settlers in assaulting aid trucks on their way to Gaza, so that the people there would starve. As they were driving back from one of these assaults, the off-duty soldier spotted a Palestinian flag off from the road. I would say "blame" leads to nowhere these days. It is a conservative strategy as one stuck in exposing propositions endlessly; while, either, expecting for the accused target to change course or by constructing movements whose ideology comes out of the blame and as a result of understanding the knowledge that emerges of out the blame propositions which often is, conservative.
Instead, if I may suggest, progressiveness must nourish understanding/recognition and acceptance of failures, as blame creates categories, those who are blamed and those who are not. That is not to suggest to not prosecute horrors, rather, to move forward with unity in mind, and unity cannot happen through blame.

The suicide bombings in the 2nd Intifada gave Israel an excuse to implement all these onerous 'security measures'.
