He made this show! It just wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without him (of course, they're all important as his jokes feed off them etc). Why are niles characters so great in sitcoms? Niles in The Nanny is the best too!
The greatest running gag throughout the run of "Frasier" -- all the funnier for remaining unspoken -- was that these two utterly hopeless neurotics, who at times were flirting with the outer borders of clinical insanity, got paid huge sums of money to help other people address THEIR problems. (This episode is one of my favorites. Niles' heartfelt "Frasier, be my eyes", as if this were "A Patch of Blue" or "Johnny Belinda", is beyond praise.)
As a contractor, I have worked for many psychiatrists and therapists over the years. They are messed up. I think they do what they do to try and fix themselves.
Sure. I'm happy by wanting crippling depression, an abusive household, no job prospects and no friends. That's what I have after all. Clearly I am happy now. Fuck off.
+Turtle1631991 basically, Frasier and Niles are two wannabe Brits. And British culture has a reputation for being obsessed with class status. I think that's why I like this show so much, even more than Cheers.
Not even just a commentary on elitism. It’s a perfect allegory for how humans are never satisfied and always want what they can’t have. It’s almost like a Garden of Eden type metaphor.
NOTHING at ALL wrong with so-called elitism, it's how the ambitious and aspirational, who provide top class goods and services, at higher prices, earn part or all of their living. Elitism is only CALLED elitism by those who live financially, below the standard required to afford watever is available at this level. For those who CAN afford it, it's just called... "part of life" ...
Yeah but having the big words “employees only” plastered on a fancy door would’ve ruined the emersion of The Relaxation Grotto, either way Frasier and Niles should’ve been suspicious when the platinum door was the only one you didn’t need a members card to open
I really don't think "Employees Only" would stop Niles and Frasier. It would just make them think employees are getting something special that they can't have.
Best commentary on life and the eternal chase. Too many people I know (I hope not including myself, but could be, ee) live this way. And the result is always 'stinky'. And Niles' shuffle! Shuffle shuffle, wiggle wiggle :)
Yeah but if he said “it leads outside” Frasier and Niles would probably take it as “they have an outdoor section of the spa that they’re keeping from us”
This is probably one of the best episodes of them all. Simply because it so defines Frasier and the fantastic lesson that it teaches "Be happy with what you have when the going is good and don't always want more"
I remember as a teen it was always frasier vs friends and I thought the latter was better. Now I'm grown, frasier is far funnier and intellectually superior. This was classic.
Really? You chose _Friends_ over _Frasier?_ I was a teen and young adult as well during that time, and even I knew that _Friends_ was a sitcom for sorority bimbos. My top sitcoms at the time were _Frasier_ and _Seinfeld._
I can't think of any modern comedy show that has such a diverse group of characters that Frasier does. Frasier, Niles, Daphne, Martin, Roz, Bebe, Bulldog, Noel, Gil, Kenny even Eddie lol are such vastly different people with such distinct senses of humor that the writers gave them that's so different from each other yet it works so perfectly. You could cover the names of the characters on a script and you'd know who was saying what.
A complete parable, the pair of them at their best (or worst). The sort of story that makes me want to go to McGinty's, buy Martin a beer and tell him the whole of this tale ten times over just to hear him laugh and make me tell him again. God I loved this show.
This is my fave scene in Frasier, even though I say that about many. Most of us can relate to this, maybe not as such elitists, but by never being satisfied
The end of this scene after they open the Platinum Door is one of the funniest clips ever ... Niles' shuffle at the very end is hilarious. ... PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.
This reminds me of a man, who after many years of saving, bought a magnificently expensive Gibson guitar. And then saw the ad for the Gibson Custom Shop model..
One of the freaking funniest episodes ever. I cried laughing the first time I saw this. It shows that for many with too high of standards, the Relaxation Grotto is not enough, theyre always seeking The Platinum Door. Niles in that wrap...🤣🤣🤣
This is one of my most FAAAAVORITE episodes!!! OMG--I am watching this on the Hallmark Channel and came here to see if someone had generously uploaded it and VOILA'! Here it is!
In an early season episode, Frasier told a caller that she was obsessed with what she always thought she was missing. He advised her to instead explore and enjoy the opportunities life presented. If only he and Niles could abide by this advice. This episode is still a very amusing exploration of human curiosity and restlessness.
Funniest episode for me, next is Nanny G. 😂 Also the best illustration of how insatiable a person could be. How the thinking about the unattainable may not always be for the best.
Would be funny but a horrible business practice. Come to think of it, that spa's entire business model seemed pretty stupid. Super exclusive "invite only" and you had to have super serious connections to get to the "upper levels" no matter how much money you had. I know people can be stupid with money, but there's very few people who have the time and effort to jump through all the hoops along with the money to pay their hefty prices.
No, the door to the dumpster just looked really nice because it just happened to be apart of the relaxation grotto. The guy that told them to stay should have just given them more information on why they weren't allowed out there.
As the episode ends right after they left via the platinum door into the street, I think that that is left open for interpretation. If it were me, I would just go back to the entrance and apologise and ask to re-enter. But then again, Frasier actually "stole" this opportunity fraudulently, and knowing how he most often "behaved", he and Niles were so focused on the escape and the embarrassment of the moment, they would not want to return. In the end, I they get what they deserved, which aver way they reflected on their situation. Obviously they were in the wrong, so by now the guilt would have made them just run away.
Too funny how they 1st lie/con their way in and was happy to be there and pay all that money for services and products rendered...until they saw "Senator Ogden" going through a (gold) door that they had no access to because they were only SILLLLVER level members! The ending was HILARIOUS!!!

He made this show! It just wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without him (of course, they're all important as his jokes feed off them etc). Why are niles characters so great in sitcoms? Niles in The Nanny is the best too!
The shuffling in the alley as he tries to escape the bees was also hilarious.
"Please remain in the relaxation grotto! Have crueler words ever been spoken!" So funny!
Greetings from the future!
That was funny😂
the best scene from all of the Fraiser shows....and they had a lot. and that was the best line.
When frasier says "this is where we belong" and the scene turns into a dumpster, I completely lost it. LMAO!
Definitely one of my top 5 funniest episodes!

"This is where we belong!" - Every bit as funny now as it was 14 years ago.
@Follower Of Christ Not Friends for me so I'd say Frasier, Barney Miller and Everybody Loves Raymond as three of the funniest and the best imo.
"Goodbye sweet and edible facials! Hello radiant, life-giving SUN!!" Hilarious! Niles' face as he scuttles away from the bees is a hysterical sight!
Niles' shuffle is hysterical....LOL!!!!!
The line 'this is where we belong' as they head out to the garbage always stuck with me 😂 good lesson for us all in this episode.

Best social commentary of elitism taken too far. Loved this show.

These aren't episodes. They're excerpts. We got ripped off by Ricky Mk.
I love the physical comedy! Niles at his best!
I literally LOL when Niles started to "run". … PEACE to ALL.
The combination of highbrow (just about ALL of the dialogue) and lowbrow (Pierce's walk is magnificent) makes this. Epic comedy.
"Hellloooo! Heeeellloo, anyone in the Relaxation Grottooooooo!" Classic comedy and a brilliant commentary on humans' inability to find happiness.
Jaymes Guy nicely put.
Two words that would've saved Niles and Frasier a whole lot of trouble: "Employees Only."
I think "Emergency Exit" or something might have been better.
Yeah but having the big words “employees only” plastered on a fancy door would’ve ruined the emersion of The Relaxation Grotto, either way Frasier and Niles should’ve been suspicious when the platinum door was the only one you didn’t need a members card to open

Best commentary on life and the eternal chase. Too many people I know (I hope not including myself, but could be, ee) live this way. And the result is always 'stinky'. And Niles' shuffle! Shuffle shuffle, wiggle wiggle :)

This is probably one of the best episodes of them all. Simply because it so defines Frasier and the fantastic lesson that it teaches "Be happy with what you have when the going is good and don't always want more"
That's right, just be happy with what you have instead of wanting more because more isn't always a good thing
Which is ironic because the finale is Frasier leaving his city, family, friends and career to find a better life.
@@Jackleber point taken, but of course would the writers of the show even have noticed that?
