Honestly for the comedy value alone- I think non-GX owners should subscribe 😂 love it. Hopefully you saved someone from putting a rhinoceros front end on their ride
Another awesome vid! Thanks again. A couple tips (take it or leave it) you could find a small hose to direct the draining coolant into your container for a lot less mess, that is if you care. And another thing that I bought and love is the spill free funnel. Its perfect to burp cooling systems and comes with a bunch of adapters for all kinds of cars. Its around $20 if I remember but you just leave it attached to your radiator cap with coolant about half way up and let it burp itself.
Would be easy to go to hardware store and find some silicone hose to fit over the peacock valve drain to eliminate declining the vehicle and prevent a mess.
True, but then you would put my maid, Maria out of a job. She is local union 846 National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA). In California, we believe in higher pay for lazy workers.
Thanks for another great video Bob. Do you or anyone else on this comment section think we be able to drain a greater amount of fluid if draining with engine hot when the thermostat is expected to be open?
Hey Bob- I’ve read on the forums and Facebook pages that guys are also draining the engine block from below, in order to get an additional 8 to 9 quarts out. What are your thoughts on also draining the block in addition to the radiator job you’re doing here? Thank you!
Hey Paul! Yeah that would be a flush/fill procedure. I did a drain/fill which is faster and because i change my coolant more frequently than recommended by Toyota Lexus. I wouldn't worry unless you haven't done a coolant drain in a long time (over 100k). If you're at lower mileage, i wouldn't worry about doing a complete flush. Thats kinda overkill for me.
@@GXBOBnot to mention it’s impossible to get to! I replaced my radiator yesterday and intended to drain the block too. I took one look at where the drain valve was on the driver side and said NOPE!
Only real issue i've had with my older GX's are radiator leaks. I've had that twice on 2 different 2008's. Its no big deal but just fyi that those 1st generations are prone to it.
According to The Car Care Nut, the reason for those leaks is this long live toyota coolant, which toyota claims should be replaced every 100k. Those long intervals are responsible for lime deposits around seals, which leads to their failures. You should flash the coolant every 30k or 50k with the radiator cleaner capable of dissolving the lime buildup. This should prevent those seals from failing prematurely.
Hello Bob, any reason why you had flushed only the radiator instead of full flush? The GX takes about 3,4 gallons of coolant (according to TechDoc), so replacing just 1/3 isn't helping with old coolant degradation. There are actually two additional drain plugs on both sides of the block, which should be removed during full flush. At least these are procedures for proper coolant flush. Any thoughts on this?
Amazing video. A question: My GX460 2016 version has a small leak in the radiator and I'm going to replace it and in my research I found Cooling Radiator "Compatible" with the 2010-2018 Lexus GX460. Is that ok to buy? Thanks
@@GXBOB yes, I was able to do it. Only issue is the plastic inlet where it connects is looks cracked at the very edge and I think there is a very small leak. I am almost sure its the reason I have been having to add coolant. Will have to get a new radiator witch is fine as long as it is not the valley leak that I’ve been hearing about
Normal coolant evaporates over time. Rule of thumb is 1” per year or 1/4” every quarter. Assuming you’re keeping your reservoir at the max, your radiator cap is in great condition, and you’re replacing your coolant at scheduled maintenance with the correct coolant. That is if you’re losing coolant without any visible puddles where they don’t belong (driveway, underneath radiator, etc…)
I'm trying to bleed the air from the coolant. But cant find no screw information. Your video is the best video by far online. But im still dont know how to bleed a lexus gx. Keep up the good work. P.s Jiggle bolt at 12 oclock.. that sounds relevant to any of this?
You might want to invest in a Radiator Buddy, it'll make your bleed process a lot easier. You're able to view the bubbles "burp" when you squeeze the upper radiator hose and it also gives you the hassle-free process of not having to refill once the coolant level goes does several times during the bleed. ua-cam.com/video/2f30UxPujIk/v-deo.html
Hey E M, every GX is going to vary. A lot of folks do multiple flushes to get the entire system ran thru. I didn't do that. I did a quick flush and fill regardless of whatever is left in the engine. The reason why i did this is because i do my flushes often (very inefficient way of spending your money and time, i know). For someone that follows the book and want to flush it completely, the book calls out for roughly 1.75 gallons of red coolant as capacity but i always carry way more than needed because u can always return what you don't use.
Legend has it that Bob is still filling his radiator! Whaz up wild Bob, at the time of this video I couldn't do the flush cuz of my gay azz manicure or pedicure hell maybe both, but I'm good tu go now 😜
I would love to but the last time (recently) i went to my mechanic for a fix, he gave me an offer i couldn't refuse so i said "go for it". He did a transmission flush and fill with Toyota WS complete for $80.
Hi Bob, how about a video to remote start your GX using your phone. Some you tubers were doing it but I know your video will be tutorially different. Good job Bob.
I"m afraid to ask how different......I've been asked to do the remote start but i want to hold off until i get another GX as i'm currently selling this one.
In the body of my description, i mentioned my justification for just a radiator drain and fill instead of a entire system flush. Those are only done if you are doing it every 100k miles. I do it every 15k. That makes for a better flush than once every 100k.
Hey Phil, mixing red from 2 different companies is not an issue i'd worry about. They both have to still pass OEM requirements to even be labeled "red".
Thank Bob another great video any shade tree mechanic can handle. I did notice the Peak anti freeze bottle said "Asian vehicle". That's racist Bob. Bam! Peace.....
