Great video Chris and Ross, I think it definitely is the future of mountain riding. Thank you for everything you do for the sport and all your hard work and research and it is fun to watch you guys having fun doing it!
Cool,Lynx brp have done this on their boondocker's for 2 years, nowbody did follow..hopefully it becomes the standard now :) im gonna go for the 163 on 155 tunnel
A number of people both locally and worldwide have gone down in track length from 163", have you noticed if the shorter tracks have advantages due to increased track speed? If so which snow conditions does this have most effect or negative effect?
Contemplating this for a while & think next year at Haydays going pick up a 163 2.6 track/ Iceage rails. Got to see that combination in action two weeks ago at Rabbit Ears & talk with owner of sled. He said no drawbacks just benefits.
Man I have built a viper with a 174 and 2.6 inch lug with 162 tunnel lol it's 1/6 scale rc that is crazy fun for the down days and it can't flip over on You!
by going to a 163 track from a 155, is there any need to upgrade clutching and motor? I feel like the bigger track needs additional power or does an 800 already have plenty?
Fantastic idea. If you don’t want to start cutting your new snow machine up, you can buy a Lynx or new Summit. I’m sure the other OEM’s will follow suite in the next year or two. Ride safe out there !
It seems like snow builds up a ton both at the back of the running boards and on the center on the tunnel and I noticed after trying a new alpha that this didn't happen. Is this because there isn't a cooler going down the tunnel warming it up and melting the snow making it stick? If so what can ya Polaris guys do to prevent all that snow from building up? Awesome video again and cool mods!
yeah thats exactly why there isn't build up, we don't have much issue with tons of snow on our tunnel but the running boards do have that build up. the new skiz Tri lite boards are pretty great at addressing that! heres our video about them ua-cam.com/video/4q83qbGEn90/v-deo.html
@@RossxrI ride in the east and we don't normally have endless pow but the 144 finds its limits. Will be upgrading to 155 track over the summer. I'll have to see what it looks like without a tunnel ext.
2.6 for a few reasons. belt drive is much more efficient and we feel the 2.6 gets on top of the snow better than the 3, especially in the places we ride.
Good for the Mountains. no Good for the flat lands and Ice. Wish Poo would have a kit from the titan's rad n fan for us Ice riders and super low snow conditions.
most of it is for cooling and sleds haven't been to this level yet and we are discovering how much better it makes the sled. hopefully this is the future
the 146 sleds have completely different bulkheads and tunnels so we need the axys tunnel and bulkhead to get the right geometry ,weight, handling and performance
So obviously Polaris will be coming out with shorter tunnels now 🤦🏼 Ski-Doo does lead the way in innovation. Haters will hate and that’s why this sport is so competitive 💙
Also works well on long track converted PZ480s. No cooling issues!
amazing to see you still so excited about the sport, been riding since i was 6 and i still get giddy when i see the snow fall
I guess I'm quite off topic but does anyone know of a good website to watch new tv shows online ?
@Kannon Braylon flixportal :P
@Israel Elon Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) Appreciate it!
@Kannon Braylon no problem :)
Basically a Lynx Boondocker
Great video Chris and Ross, I think it definitely is the future of mountain riding. Thank you for everything you do for the sport and all your hard work and research and it is fun to watch you guys having fun doing it!
So many beautiful sleds in there love the new polaris
Love the new 850 engines. That seize up lol...
Very cool info. Keep pushing those boundaries we love it.
Thanks! burandt will never stop in the pursuit of getting to the top!
basically he did what Lynx does to their Boondocker 850 DS from stock
Tompa Li yessir
Exactly what I was thinking
But burandt started 4 years ago which was in 2015 not 2018 therefore he did it first listen at 1:50
@@darrenvankoughnett6509 he is lying
Yeah pretty much... and remember Polaris has always copied skidoo.
Cool,Lynx brp have done this on their boondocker's for 2 years, nowbody did follow..hopefully it becomes the standard now :) im gonna go for the 163 on 155 tunnel
hoigari76 i was going to comment that to!!👍
I hope it does also! its a awesome concept
Arctic Cats have been doing it also. If you take off the snow flap you can really tell that the track is longer then the tunnel.
Great video, thanks Chris! I better go grab my hacksaw, who needs coolant?
Excellent video and tech. Thanks for sharing this stuff.
That collection of sleds though, wow.
Not collection its burandt backcoutry adventure company
I know. Still amazing.
Remember when cat started bobbing tunnels back in like 09?
Alright, next year doing 155 sled with a 174 track and rail 😆
Just hack it off at the end of the gas tank 😂
send it!!

for sure!! I've seen the same thing!
I want to do this with my 2019 163 rmk 800,it will void warranty right?and u have kit on your store to do this or should it be welded?
Man I have built a viper with a 174 and 2.6 inch lug with 162 tunnel lol it's 1/6 scale rc that is crazy fun for the down days and it can't flip over on You!
Is the 2019 850 174 a tad too long? @Chris Burandt ?
Who did you get the idea from?
I believe he had a vision one day on the hill. But I remember him talking about it in 2015 when we built his first lightweight carbon sled
2009-10 cats basically did this too, no idea why they went back to long tunnels tho.
by going to a 163 track from a 155, is there any need to upgrade clutching and motor? I feel like the bigger track needs additional power or does an 800 already have plenty?
Making youngsters look a fool! # legend
Awesome!
Why not just use a 144" tunnel Or, a trail tunnel with longer skid instead of all the cutting?
the 144 or trail tunnel and bulkhead are really different and a lot heavier, wouldn't be the same sled without the Axys tunnel and bulkhead 👍
@@Rossxr Gotcha, good point. Thanks!
I got one why does Chris always make us want to spend more money after you’re done watching him? 😂🤙🏼
Is this possible of a 2013 pro?
I can barely buy a 2007 rmk 600 and this guys got 14 brand new ones, jelly...
He gets em free.
After all the hard work and time he has put in it is well deserved
I think he needs a couple more back up sleds. This is not enough.......
Fasterdura177 Lots of those are his company sleds, Burandt’s Backcountry Adventures.
No he does not.
What is the top rpm you should set the axys 800’s
800s should be pulling 8300 ideally!
Ross Robinson ok 👍, thanks Ross
Any gear changes required putting the 163 track in the 155 sled.
There's no difference in stock gearing at all
Did he cut 8 off his shorter sled?
What temperature is getting hot on an 800 axys
140+? Idk mines normally 125-130 and I don't let it get hotter than 150
yea anything over 150 is pretty hot, the new 850s run at 100
Fantastic idea. If you don’t want to start cutting your new snow machine up, you can buy a Lynx or new Summit.
I’m sure the other OEM’s will follow suite in the next year or two.
Ride safe out there !
What about assault 144 with a sks 146 combo for the flat land guys
You should be lead designer at Polaris... it drives me crazy to see how your sleds are built compared to what they are putting out...
He is the tester. You'll see in thr next year or two Polaris will probably switch to a different cooling system and a shorter tunnel version.
How easy will it over heat?
For the short tunnel, cut tunnel
Where is measurement initial point? 4 inches from tunnel end or flap frame?
end of the tunnel, remove the flap mount then re- install
@@Rossxr How many inches can cut on 163?

One more question saw you are running the 2.8 conquer. Does this work with the 2.6 drivers?
He's not running the 2.8, feel the 2.6 does much better in deep snow! the 2.8s have different pitch so you wound need Drivers
Thanks for info
What’s the length difference between a 155 and a 163 tunnel?
Spencer Turck 8”...
Caius Andromeda are you sure about that? The overall length difference between a 155 and a 163 is 3.4” according to specs
Spencer Turck sounds like you found your answer then, the rest of the chassis is identical
Do you run any 3"? Ive noticed most guys run the 2.6 and just wondered the reasoning was behind it
new video addressing this soon!!
Is it a good idea to cut 155 tunnel using 155 track?
Cut it and install an mtntk cooler in the rear instead of the stock Polaris cooler.
that will help for sure! it is the same idea as our 163s with 155 tunnels. we have been cutting 4" off the 155s
Why not a 146 sled with a 163 rail?
the 146 sleds have completely different bulkheads and tunnels so we need the axys tunnel and bulkhead to get the right geometry and weight. ect.
Ross Robinson sounds like Polaris needs to put the goods in the 146
What do you think about the 174, is it too long?
we have had a few here at bba and we feel that length is a little to pushy and difficult to handle in the tight trees
Haha! I use to ride a 06 RMK 600 144" that had the tunnel of a 159" track, felt bad
Probably the tunnel of a 151" track
@@davidrowley8251 Cmoonnnn 8" doesn't make that much of a difference
You should make a 163 with a 174 track or would that be to far?
it would work but the 174 is a little pushy in our opinion for handling in the tight trees
@@Rossxr Chris Burandt use 163 stock rail (Polaris) or ice age rails?
👍
Watch video about Lynx Boondocker DS
What a about putting a 155 track under a 144 tunnel?
you could do that but for us the 144 chassis isnt as good for our riding style
@@RossxrI ride in the east and we don't normally have endless pow but the 144 finds its limits. Will be upgrading to 155 track over the summer. I'll have to see what it looks like without a tunnel ext.
different mounting holes curved rails ect
2.6 or 3 inch track and why?
2.6 for a few reasons. belt drive is much more efficient and we feel the 2.6 gets on top of the snow better than the 3, especially in the places we ride.
Interesting
Huh, yeah, huh what kind of motor does that have? 5fifty? Fan cooled turbo would be cool as shit.
I got one in a 91 phazer it rips hard.
Hey u got alot scap metal for February
well I found what I'm gonna do to my 155 boondocker when I get back home from deployment
Lynx boondocker 850 ds already have that
they do but they aren't here in the states, they also don't handle like the Polaris does in the tech terrain
Good for the Mountains. no Good for the flat lands and Ice. Wish Poo would have a kit from the titan's rad n fan for us Ice riders and super low snow conditions.
Nobody, skidoo summit x expert,
Done.
not anything new cats been doing it for years with the crossfire a shorter tunnel on longer track
Would be easier to just install a custom cooler instead of cutting out the cross over and welding it back in
Why doesn't Polaris just do that stock
most of it is for cooling and sleds haven't been to this level yet and we are discovering how much better it makes the sled. hopefully this is the future
Next year or two.
Lynx did this two years ago...
Clicked on it cuz I thought the guy was Travis pastrana
Comparable in my book
интересная мысль с обрезом танели!!!
Man, i thought of this yrs ago but didnt have the balls or budget to try it. I had a feeling it could work and have benifits 😪
And just like that, thousands of Polaris tunnels get cut....
Chris you should get the new arctic cat alpha
Jordan Christensen he gets Polaris for free, he couldn’t care less about getting a different brand.
Why don't you just buy a 146 and put a 163 track and suspension on it!
the 146 sleds have completely different bulkheads and tunnels so we need the axys tunnel and bulkhead to get the right geometry ,weight, handling and performance
Or buy lynx bondocker
nothing New. Lynx boondocker DS have short tunel from stock. go Google and look. so last season
Juho Ruokamo he has been doing it for 5 years. He said in the video.
So obviously Polaris will be coming out with shorter tunnels now 🤦🏼 Ski-Doo does lead the way in innovation. Haters will hate and that’s why this sport is so competitive 💙
