Logic's dad wasn't around when he needed him most. He'll be damned if his son feels what he felt, ya know? He's eliminating the possibility of an absent dad. Even you said your dad gave you hip hop, whereas Logic had to find it on his own
I completely understand Logic retireing to focus on his son. Although there are many rappers who are fathers, being a father is completely foreign to Logic, he never really had a father figure so I guess he doesn't want to give his son a lack of attention just like his father did to him. Their relationship was so bad that when his dad went to a meet and greet to see him, Logic told his father something along the lines of "the only time I ever want to see you again is at your funeral" I don't remember the exact words but he said it in an interview.
Yeah, especially with covid going on as well. I think he just wants to step back and focus on his family rn. I doubt this will be the last music we get from logic.
He isn’t painting a narrative. You’re just taking it that way dude. There’s multiple reasons why he’s retiring. And if he stayed this long with all the other reasons then yes. His main reason probably is his son. Everybody deals with shit differently. Him retiring to try and be the best father he can, does not mean rappers who are still in the game and are fathers are any less. Or aren’t good fathers. It is fine if that’s what you take away from his retirement, but it doesn’t mean everyone else sees it that way or that he’s painting a narrative my dude.
He's publicly addressed why he quit the rap game in multiple interviews. Not sure if they were out when you wrote this comment but it had less to do with his son and more to do with the toxicity in the rap industry. Some people are better at handling criticism than others, logic strikes me as a selfless person who finds happiness in making others happy, so in an industry with so much hate he couldn't handle it because people like him just want to be loved. He's just an emotional dude, most people are a lot better at blocking out criticism and it's something logic has had to work on instead of it just coming naturally.
He's retiring because he's setup his life and he's going to raise his child and have a happy family. Retirement isn't "taking a break to focus" retiring is "finishing because you've succeeded"
I was definitely in the same boat as you, thinking that he wasn't really retiring, but after listening to this album I'd be surprised if he dropped any more music
It's funny like no matter how direct someone can be in saying why they are doing something, people still wont believe them and will come up with there own reason... besides taking it for what it is and whats being said. There are plenty of artist that dip once they have a kid, it's one thing to have a spouse because they will most likely live the same or similar lifestyle to yours so none of it is a big deal; but when you bring fresh life into the world that has no clue about anything then now your #1 priority should change I don't care who you are or what kind of job you do... Sure we all need money to survive but there's just some things in life that money can't buy; and that is "first" time experiences with anything in life. You really don't know if your first time will be your last time or if you'll ever even get a chance again to experience it depending on the context if you take it for granted and put other things first. 💯💙 Trust me bro as much as much as you love rap and would die for it and give everything to succeed and make it or be successful, even if your career is just taking off and/or at its prime (an example being Adele). You'll be just as quick to to either dip and take a break or will def understand 100% more on why you would or someone would do such a thing and put there whole career on hold.
It’s exactly what you say because in the song Dark Place on the album he says “I been beaten and battered, my confidence shattered. Been broken and tattered. I’m constantly second guessin’ if my profession is worth it on my mental state.”
He might be using having a kid as part of it but hear me out. It almost feels like a sports athlete feeling like he's done and accomplished all he wanted to. Stepping away on his own and living his life as a family man. He still has the tools to do the damn thing just doesn't feel it's necessary to do so anymore. You feel me 🍻
In the album he talks about how it just hurts him to make music anymore and that another reason why he is retiring. Listen to dark place and it will all make sense👍
If you want the real reason why he quit rap, listen to Dark Place. Really paints the picture as to why hip-hop is no longer a huge interest of Logic’s.
True but you also have to consider how his dad wasn't there for him as a kid. He wants to raise his son well because his dad didn't do the same if that makes sense.
JulianBurtonMusic You’re right, he’s mentioned this once, maybe several times, in his previous albums (TITS, I believe and maybe UP?) long before so this is true.
@@burntcheerio775 Aye thanks man. I'm sure the stuff mentioned in dark place would've been a reason to quit as well, since that shit would get REALLY tiring. The most obvious example of the stuff with his dad (for me) is off the glorious five on YSIV
2:08 No, his Twitch stream (VOD was deleted, idk why) solidified that it is a pure and honest retirement. No albums, no mention of touring, no mention of concerts. Nothing. He made a statement on hardknocktv interview along the lines of, just you wait and see, 5 years from now and you'll still see no album. And I don't think he lost his love for rap as much as the industry and social media destroyed it for him mentally.
He just got 7 figures off a deal with twitch. Homeboy is winning. He got the bag now he can enjoy playing video games with his subs! And he’ll be home with his wife and kid. Couldn’t be happier for him.
When you have a kid you will understand. Kids change perspective on life, bro. I respect Logic for retiring to focus on what matters most. I do agree hes taking a break not retiring, every rapper that retires some how or another comes back.
He didn't have a dad growing up because of all the drugs and what not and so I think he just wants to make sure he never does that to his son. He wants to be there for everything and I think that's very awesome!
logic deserved a lot better than what he got. i don’t think he lost his love for hip hop, just couldn’t “not care” about all that shit he got thrown at him. it got to him, affected him deeply. don’t blame him for retiring (even if he ends up coming back to it down the line) and focusing on his family. but i don’t agree that he’s trying to push a narrative that you can’t raise a kid, be a good dad while being in the industry or that he does not love it anymore
For me logic did the right think to retire and focus on his family yes we going to miss him cause he is one of the badass rappers but now he has a new life to focus on!!
I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it below, but in his interview, he talked about the how music has been incredibly stressful for him. He's said he finally got to the point with the last album where he realized that he had made it a while ago, and all of the criticism was a lot of B.S. from people that didn't care about him or his career, so now he just wants to spend time with his family, hang out online with the Rattpack, and do whatever he wants to do.
I don't think the critics are why he left but they def were a factor that helped push him towards this choice. You should watch his hardknocktv interviews if you haven't already.
While you can be a good father and have a busy job that takes the vast majority of your time you will have to make sacrifices when it comes to your kid and the amount of your time they get. You might miss a few games, go months without holding them, etc etc etc. If you don't make those sacrifices you have to make them when it comes to your job. Time is not infinite sometimes there just isn't enough time in the day and just because something can be done does not mean it has no drawbacks or downsides. To say I am quitting rap to focus on being a dad isn't the same as saying you can't be a rapper and a dad. What it is saying is that I am not going to make those sacrifices necessary to do both. It is like saying I want to be at every football/baseball/soccer/basketball game my kid has, or hell maybe coach the team. I want to be at every recital if they get into music, or every play if they get into theater. I will be at every bbq and cookout in the summer, and be there to kiss them good night every night and not being on the road or locked up in a studio working makes that a hell of a lot easier and removes the need to make certain sacrifices. As someone that as I understand it grew up without a good father figure it makes sense to me that Logic would want to be there 1000% of the time with his kid. It ain't a knock on others it ain't saying it should be that way for everyone it's just the way he wants to do it.
Listen to the album if you have the chance, you will see the full reason he's retiring! also the whole album is fire. this wasn't the best song on it but you'd enjoy.
You say you don't like that narrative but it's not about you, it's about him bruh. Some people get tired of the shit fast. I used to rap from 85-95(nothing worth mentioning). It was exhausting just trying to find studios that wouldn't jerk us over. Even when we did get noticed, companies wanted the rights to EVERYTHING. Hell no. In 1994, my daughter was born. Music wasn't paying so we had to jump ship. You can sometimes chase a dream so hard that you don't realize when to quit. I wish the internet was this hot back then. We wouldn't have needed them. Now we are both family guys that found other careers. Love Hip Hop still, but that shit can wear you down. Give Logic a break man.
the anxiety and frustration of rap fans probably had him considering quitting, but I think the birth of his son definitely finalized the decision, considering Logic's father wasn't really there for him.
Scru he is retiring cuz he wants to focus on his family because growing up he didn't have a father figure and his mother was a racist drug addict but he still loves rapping it's just that from his experience he truly wants to be a father but I feel he will come back but it wont be rushed to just put out music I think itll be for himself
It's different when you have an infant vs a kid that's a little older let him be a dad... He'll be back I'll bet my money and yours on that I think he still loves it.

I feel like once his kid is old enough and starts going to school on the daily, he's gonna have more free time, will have been doing this long enough, and want to come back. But not like before. He can just record his material in his home studio and release it himself. Play much smaller gigs like he's been talking about lately. Being an artist is still doable for him, he just needs to end this current perception of Logic that people have. No more music business numbers game shit, just drop some dope tracks once in a while on his own. Make some easy cash on the regular.

I don't think hes trying to say he's retiring because he couldn't release albums and stay around enough for his son. I think he's saying he gets more satisfaction from parenting than he does from rapping so he'd rather just be a dad and make money from twitch.
I think Logic retired to give his kid a better life than he had and to be a father when his dad got into some messed up shit he doesn’t want his kid growing up without a dad because he knows what it’s like

True. Very true
It's not fair to say he has lost his love for hip hop after hearing one track off the album.
Agreed!! Whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It kinda says within Aquarius3/Dark Place that he has lost the love and passion for music though 🙄
No he has
He's retiring because he's setup his life and he's going to raise his child and have a happy family. Retirement isn't "taking a break to focus" retiring is "finishing because you've succeeded"
