    After traveling up the lengthy Geirangerfjord, it's time to check out the town and go on some waterfall hikes.
    After arriving in Geiranger Norway, we travel through this quintessential town which has no shortage of mountains, waterfalls, sheep, goats, and amazing views.
    With only 24 hours before we need to shove off again, we try and fit in as much as possible...but make the promise that we will definitely be back someday.
    Much love from Norway!

    The obvious name for the LARGE waterfall opposite the Seven Sisters is BIG BROTHER.
    A Fantastic part of our world, and deservedly a World Heritage Site.

  • @arejahrn5571

    Love you're videos. You always seem to be able to relay the essence of the places you visit. The strong waterfall opposite the seven sisters waterfalls is called "the suitor". It is the source of a legend that goes something like this; Stunned by the beauty of the seven sisters, the Suitor asked each of the seven sister for their hand in marriage, only to be turned down by all seven. In his sorrow he turned to the bottle. If you look at the waterfall, especially if you look at it straight ahead, you can clearly see the shape of a bottle where the stream splits in two before hitting the fjord.

    One of my favorite things about your channel is how you describe what you see and feel, describe the scents of your surroundings, that takes it to a different level of just the visual/auditory.., but also the sensual.

    Beautiful country with fantastic footage on land and by drone. The shots of the waterfall when you were really close help tell the story of how tall and massive they looked. It has to be 100 times better in person and it was still stunning in this video. This is one of my favorite MJ Sailing episodes to date. Thanks for sharing.

    The 'Hurtiguten' ships that leave from Bergen every afternoon, do in Summer months cruise the Geiranger Fjord, and from memory i think they spend 3 or 4 at the village of Geiranger...................................One of the special places in the world!!

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  4 роки тому

      We had so many of those ships pass us along the coast, and since we had to motor so much anyway, we kept thinking 'We should just hop on that!!', lol.

      @@MJSailing They are a really interesting way of cruising, in the all the ships in the 'Hurtigruten' fleet are a combination of a 5 star cruise ship, a working vessel that carries cargo, and a ferry that the average Joe uses to get around on. We have done the round trip from Bergen to Kirkeness twice, and found them really interesting ships.

    Who could dislike this adventure of yours? As I write this it is 122+ and 1-

    • @Neilhuny
      @Neilhuny 4 роки тому +2

      Currently 1300+ and 10- .... I have no idea why people would mark this down! Perhaps they are disappointed that it isn't filmed in the tropics? It rained/wasn't sunny enough? Or there are no bikinis (though I'm sure Matt would look great in one)? It isn't their language? They don't like cruise ships and dislike the environmental pressure they create? Perhaps they have streaming issues and blame MJ Sailing for a dodgy video?
      I have no idea, I don't understand why anyone would mark this down - none of the reasons I guessed at above are good enough, or right in an way.

    Terrific video. Of course, I enjoyed the very early blogs when you were sailing on Lake Michigan. i wonder whether you ever do a comparison and contrast with those early days to now. The yen for adventure has remained the same and it has, clearly, paid off in a lifetime of memories. Have you made plans for the coming year?

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  4 роки тому

      Thank you for the kind words! Wow, a comparison to the Lake Michigan days would have lots of differences!! But most of that would be a comparison from pleasure sailing (always picking a beam reach because you have no destination) to having a specific destination and having to fight the winds to get there.
      Tentative plans for 2020 are to spend April - June sailing more of southern England (Scilly Islands) and the Irish Sea including Wales and hopefully the Firth of Clyde by Glasgow. By late June we hope to be in SW Ireland to make a jump down to Spain where we'll work our way down Portugal and into the Med. But since we only get 90 days in Schengen countries (Spain, Portugal, France, Italy), we'll probably have to play a back and forth game between there and Morocco.

Your quickly becoming one of my favorites if for nothing else but the fact that you seem to be resisting the latest trend to put out videos that are half an hour or longer. When sailing in the fjords is an beautiful experience its also rather dangerous, this is due to downdraughts from the mountains. The old ppl living in Storfjord of which Geirsngerfjord is a side arm, did say that you needed to be 4 times the height of the mountain away from shore to be safe.And in the fjords that is impossible so you have to be on guard all the time.
    You have made a really good video of a marvelous landscape. BTW i live not far from Geiranger

    Oh my goodness I cannot believe how friendly the animals are in Europe. I was just watching some Christmas videos of some people who live in England where are you are apparently right now. Well squirrels in parks just come running right up onto your shoulder for you to feed them nuts??? That’s insane. And the deer on their walk in this big park they were 4 foot away from them. I bet you they could have pet those deers? Also a good man a deer came out. None of those deers seemed intimidated whatsoever nor did they charge at the people or their dogs while walking through this park? I was telling my husband how crazy this is! What is up with the animals in America? Apparently they have not been loved enough throughout the years so they have an adapted to this behavior?

    Yes, you tapped the beer twice.. to no avail.. I happen to know of a large scale experiment - scientifically undertaken - to investigate the effect, or lack thereof, of tapping the can before opening. There was no effect of the tapping recorded!

    The only thing that would’ve made that beer opening more classic would have been..... if one of your sheep friends would’ve run over in reared up his legs like a unicorn. To defend you, to protect you from the evil beer can😂

      We rang in the new year walking along the Barbican in Plymouth. 😊

      @@MJSailing I've walked along there ... though it is a dangerous place because of the Gin Distillery and its lovely food! An easy place to empty your wallet ...
