The Subject is Jazz was such a great show! This was when American culture truly was at its apex. All these tunes - beloved by the then recently belated Charlie Parker - are paid a most honorable tribute here, as though each musician saw it as their duty to keep alive the legacy of the Bop era Bird had created - especially of course, Cannonball. I love the mute Jimmy Cleveland uses here! Billy Taylor's solos were always so polished and on point. I never truly appreciated Nat Adderly's fine artistry until seeing this video. Mundell Lowe was a great, underrated guitarist who played with Bird on the West Coast in the early 50's. The two Eds formed as great of a rhythm base as any group ever had. How sad that such great musical talent is far too stratospherically intellectual for most Americans nowadays to appreciate even one iota. They just don't get it!

What is that rag on his bell? A mute, presumably home made? Looks like a cut up beret.
