- Couldn't wait to do an unboxing video so instead, after one month of daily use, a review and first impressions of the FMGammon Blackhawk Board.
Thanks to your review I bought this board & checker combo and I'm extremely happy, I don't think I will be upgrading it in the future, as this is already an "endgame" board for me, the peak of beauty. Thank you!
Wow! I’m glad the review helped you so much, it makes filming it and posting it worthwhile. It’s a fantastic board and won’t let you down. I’m about to film a first year review of the board. One of the things that has stood out is the design. Online people comment how nice it looks with various checkers, I just did a review of six different colors of checkers that I got from only craft studio and I use this board for comparisons. It looks good with anything, like a classic tuxedo. I’m up to almost a dozen boards now and this is still everybody’s favorite. I’m sure it will be your favorite too.
@@jimsutherland2010 Couldn't agree more about the classic tuxedo thing, which is why my other board is also in a similar color style. I wanted it to go well with any checker combination in case I got more checkers later. Wish I could send you pictures, but I tried posting the picture links for 10 minutes but each time the goddamn anti-spam bot kept deleting my comment. So if you want to see pictures of it, please share your e-mail or tell me where I can find it.
I wanted to show you a four-player version of backgammon that pits a duo vs. another, called Quadragammon. It's much more fun than chouettes, and I just finished a tutorial for it. I'd appreciate any feedback you might have before I release the video tomorrow. The video: /watch?v=VfZnLwCaNuw
@@bennemann working all day I won’t be able to check out the photos before seeing the video tomorrow. I’ve seen multiple player gammon for three and four players. I look forward to seeing it. I highly recommend you check out my only craft studios review of their checkers. They look awesome on this board. Especially pink and white checkers on the gray background, weird, huh?
Great board. I’ve played on many of them. I like the material better than real wood. Great colors as well
@@EricPetersen2922 hey Eric appreciate the comments, the MDF does sound awesome! Also the monochromatic gray makes it playable with any checker color combination. My favorite board of the seven I have.
That's why I like the Red and Orange checkers on a Grey field with Black and White points. Like the 2000's World Series of Backgammon boards. Best combination for a backgammon set in my opinion.
Very true Chris. I happen to have red and orange checkers from my Artgammon boards that I reviewed in another video on my channel. Sometimes I swap them up with this board. They really “Pop!”
I’m a big fan of ArtGammon.
Very nice review. I was looking at this board, but the small one (for travel purpose and for some games at a cafe or beach bar). In the end, I opted for the other one, the mini nature board. Im very, very happy with it.
Im also considering the bigger brother, the one you just reviewed, for home games. Love your pick of colors. Very cool.
Funny, I was thinking of getting the one you got, the mini nature board to keep in the trunk of my car.😊
Great video, Jim. Thanks and good luck over a board ❤🎉
Dude you seriously need to do radio voice over work. Or documentary narration
Hey Jim .... thanks for the video . In a few days will order my Blackhawk..... it will dark green and yellow . With matching accessories. Very affordable..... great customer service . I can't wait . I was wondering about guilty. Thanks again ...... happy gammon 😊
Hey Pamela, you are more than welcome for the video. I’m glad it was helpful. I’m not sure what you meant by “wondering about guilty” very happy gammon to you!
@jimsutherland2010 just wasn't sure how good and solid it would be . Since it's a lower price point . .... Quality.... I don't like spell check .
@@pamelahurst1352 it’s extremely high-quality, especially for the price, I hope you enjoy it :-)
Great, informative video, thank you. One question, which checkers are they exactly? I will buy the same board. Many greetings from Germany. Christian
Hi Christian, I’m glad you liked the video and found it informative. The checkers are the purple marbled and the orange marbled checkers of the DMR series. On the video, I wasn’t sure of the thickness, they are actually 12 mm.
The video does not do the checkers justice, they are stunning in real life and they get constant compliments. Ali Yaldiz was the gentleman that helped me. To be sure you get the right checkers, I would include a link to this video in the order notes. All the best from Oregon.
Jim
Very nice review
Great video! Do they let you choose the checker colors when you order it?
Thank you! Yes, they do. Let you choose the checker colors And style. Take a look at the checkers webpage on their site.
@@jimsutherland2010 does it cost extra to choose a different color/style?
@@JH-mt5bt most styles are included, the checkers with metal rims are not included. They have many styles. The best thing to do is to ask Ali Yaldiz at their email address. He will take good care of you just tell him I sent you :-)
@@jimsutherland2010 Sorry, one more question - at 6:54 you say that you "design the inlays yourself" - are you able to pick any color inlay that you want for this board (or any of their other fixed inlay boards for that matter?)... again, sorry for all the questions I'm new to FM Gammon
@@JH-mt5bt I believe you can design the shape of the points, the color of the points and the color of the field so that’s pretty much everything. I let Ali Yaldiz pick it for me after I told him generally what I wanted, which was a dark field with shades of gray for the points and a wood look to the field. Not a problem ask as many questions as you want.
Sir, that Particle board is wrapped in plastic.
@@vinr6867 thanks for the info Vin. it appears to be a very thick shellac, which I guess would be like a polyurethane, which I guess would be a plastic. I should add that I don’t mind it being particle just like our Artgammon boards. It’s a shame your old Artgammon board was so poorly put together the current ones are so nicely built. Appreciate your reviews.
@jimsutherland2010 I'm very interested how these hold up over time as they are a great value if they prove themselves durable.
@@vinr6867 I’ll make sure to do a one year update. I look forward to seeing more videos from you on your acquisitions. I like the way you have a pure breakdown of the good news and the bad news of each board and support what you’re saying. Keep it up and stay in touch.
