Honestly I love that companies like LG and Asus are around to try the wacky stuff. They are the true innovators and I wish they got more love for it.

except LG stopped putting removable batteries in their phones, and went to near permanently affixed batteries in the G8... On my V20, i can swap the forehead, chin, back cover and battery, and have a cosmetically and functionally new phone, in a completely different colour. no glue, just screws. my G8, is the same as any other modern smartphone, except with a headphone jack and an allegedly better DAC...

if you got this phone you have to try this:
-open the camera and switch to selfie mode
    - go to camera settings and set the resolution setting to - Full Screen
    - set camera flash to always on
-pinch to zoom and stop at exactly 2.8 magnification ( if you go higher it will switch to the telephoto lens and it will go blurry)
-move the phone closer and look at your face
    -COMPLETELY FREAK OUT

I think it's pretty useful... have you ever tried to put your phone somewhere for taking a self timed photo of your family or a group of people? It's rly difficult to get the right angle with your normal smartphone rear or front camera. With this you can just lay it on the ground (maybe a stone or something) and put the camera in the right angle.

This party trick? I'd love to have that if i'm taking group selfie with timer. You can just lay your phone on the edge of the table or sth and voila! With normal phones it's awful - half of the time you need to have some kind of engineering background to create a whole construction with bottle, backpack or something else just to properly hold a phone and be able to preview your shot on its screen.

@@bartotte3578 I mean, my family usually uses an actual camera with an actual 3-point stand at home for special occasions. Proper quality photography.
This system does solve a problem but its the perfect example of a first world problem. But even if you were somewhere outside of home, it's pretty weird.
If you're on a road trip, going camping or at a party, why would you want to put the phone somewhere on a rock or table and make it look like a staged college photo or weird professional family picture? Just for me personally it would look and feel silly, a normal selfie cam where I hold the phone is fine for me and it adds a flair of honesty and spontaneous-ness.
The only reason for this product to be used in my opinion is the quality of the camera.

Still on a OnePlus One because phones of the last few years without a notch and include a headphone jack are very few and far between. I have multiple headphones/headsets that are 3.5mm and I don't wish to go wireless. They're so much cheaper for the same sound quality. Also like to charge and listen regularly. Give me a 2nd USB C and I might consider the sacrifice.

As a Zenphone 6 owner, many of the software features outlined in this video are available to me as well, and the 5,000 mAh battery in that allows me to comfortably get away with only charging my phone every other day. The 7 seems to be an iterative improvement on the design of the 6, with a slightly better display and a better camera array and mechanism. The floppiness of the 7 is significantly less than on my 6, and the phone seems to do a better job of detecting it being out of position, as well as detecting obstructions. I would be interested to see if they've done a better job with getting the panels to meet tightly, I have a problem where pocket lint collects in the gaps between the body and the area where the camera assembly rests. I've been happy with my Zenphone 6 so far, it's a great all-arounder, and I can confirm that the camera is a fantastic party trick.
For the longer term, I've heard rumours that ASUS has been helping the community develop custom images for their phones, so when software support direct from ASUS inevitably stops the community should have a decent amount of knowledge built up to fill in the gaps. For their part, updates on the 6 (and I would expect on the 7 as well) are regular, seamless, and unobtrusive, with a decent number not even requiring a restart. Major updates (I got my Zenphone 6 with Android 9, and was able to upgrade to 10) seem to happen relatively quickly, though I'll have to wait for 11 to drop to be able to speak more knowledgeably on this.
