Top tip to keep hands warm all day in cold weather. Place a bowl of cold water in front of you. Put your hands into it and submerge for 1 whole minute. Then shake off excess water. Guaranteed warm hands all day. Even in freezing conditions. I worked outside for 30 years and I allied this method every day. 😊😊
Never thought about the little flasks for hot drinks I always just used them for cold water. Good tip, just goes to show we can all learn something from everyone we meet.👍
Beavercraft I 'm in. Good stuff Neil. For carrying hot water I use a large Stanley vacuum bottle with the Stanley coffee cup ( steel spill proof lid) . I fill the larger one with boiling water before I leave camp/home. Then when I need a hot drink I fill the coffee cup with the water and add whatever I want to drink....good for two refills. I have both wrapped with hockey tape, to make them easier to handle in the winter. Yes I am a Canadian.
Beavercraft I'm in Loved it. when i started to take an insulated flask with me, the boys tried to make fun of me first, but the next trip, half of them had one as well.
Fantastic tips! I paid $20 for a Thermarest Z-Seat but they can go for as much as $35 here, no need! Those garden pads you show can be had for $1-$4 dollars at a dollar store; or use an old piece of closed cell sleeping pad. Contractor bags aka bin liners, or just plain old trash bags won't provide much insulation but will protect you from wet ground. My tip if you can buy it in your country is to use regular Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment in a tube. It is made for lips but I found it of great help back when my thumb tips used to split in the dry winter. Sure it stung, but it help heal the split much quicker.
I’m in! I have a couple of pairs of the British army issue liner gloves, cheap as chips, the wrists are nice and long covering all the way over one’s wrists, and the have grippy dots over the palm and fingers and thumb, combined with the German army leather gloves, absolutely brilliant combination. Gaiters are a must have.
Beavercraft I'm in! that 8 hour bottle also can be used at a hot water bottle when you go to sleep put it into a clean sock then In side your sleeping bag at the small of your back or wherever you need more warmth throughout the night
Beavercraft I'm in. I usually take a flask instead of having to boil water when I'm out for the day. means you can have a brew whilst you wait for lunch to heat up.
Beavercraft I'm in. Those bottles are a great purchase, got a couple of them and they seal well and certainly do keep drinks or water warm for a decent amount of time.
Beavercraft I’m in please Carry water bottles upside down, if they freeze you will still have some drinkable water when you turn it back the right way up this is because the water freezes up first at the air pocket end first so by upturning your canteen the air pocket is now at the bottom! Best wishes 👍🏻😎
Neil, I’m in Beavercraft. Something I’ve always found over the years has been to have a thin pair of glove liners then put my wool and thinsulate shooters mitts over the top I prefer the ones with the suede pad on the palm. Then if it gets really cold and esp. wet or windy on top I use a pair of goretex artic unlined outer mitts, agree with gaiters though but prefer the zip up ones rather than the Velcro if you can get them the British army surplus ones are pretty good. Some good reminders though take care
Beavercraft I'm in! Always great to see your work, I don’t get in the wood as much as I like, so I sometimes live vicariously through you and a few other Brit Bush crafters, cheers from the states. .
Beavercraft I'm in .... just bought the AX1 and it's a great little axe for the price ... great video with sound advice ... for hot drinks I tend to use up to 3 lifeventure thermal mugs so I only have to brew up every 3rd cuppa ... they pack well (no handle) and keep drinks hot for at least 6 hours .... 8 at a stretch ... cheers folks
Beavercraft I’m in, just as long, Neil, as you’re happy to ship it to the land of beavers. Definitely agree with you about ponchos, the most underrated piece of gear, even here on the coast of BC where it rains a lot.
All gòod points! I do have difficulty finding hats to comfortably fit over my big bonce, never mind then extend over a wooly hat too! Beavercraft I'm in, cheers Richard
Beaver craft... I'm in. Seriously looked into treating myself to one of those knives but in the end plumped for the BPS instead. Not disappointed. Would love to compare though.
Great video. One suggestion, is use Reflectix BP24010 Series Foil Insulation in your boot vs foil. It’s not only has foil, but it has air packets to trap the heat. Greencraft. I’m all in
Beavercraft, I'm in! Great video, I've recently bought a pair of cheap foam workman's kneepads and they're amazing, so light, comfortable and save the old knees from cold, wet and hard rocks and roots. Loving your content!
Beavercraft I'm in. Great video, as usual. Work outdoors all year also and find that nothing keeps british weather out indefinitely but you can definitely slow it 😂.
Beavercraft I'm in. I guess I'm over 18 now, since I was born 1967 😆 And I am also really fond of these outdoor videos of yours. I do love outdoors and spend a lot of time in the forests of Finland (forests are my favorite place). Thank you for your tips for an old timer like myself. I think I know lots of things you teach, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded how some things should be made. Thank you Neil again!
Check the military surplus for heavy duty gloves. Especially if they carry Eastern Europe gear. Keep an eye out for sniper’s or shooter’s gloves, half-mittens with a thumb and trigger finger.😊 Beavercraft, I’m in.
Beavercraft I'm in. In my area, frost bite is a problem so hot beverages can be a bad idea. Hot drinks fool your core into believing that you are warmer than you are and causes the slow down of heat provided to extremities causing frostbite in fingers and toes. Best to drink Lukewarm or even cool drinks until you are sheltered for the day's end. 26 years as a postman in often sub zero Fahrenheit temperatures gives one a strong survival instinct.
Beavercraft I'm In, also use the hand cream on your feet, the skin on your feet can also dry out during the winter

Beavercraft. I'm in! Born in 1960. Great video! I've snaffled my daughter's 'issued' uni flask. She won't mind. She won't know!
