  • It's hard to tell what sort of quality you are getting these days. I'm sure both pumps will last long enough, but I was surprised that the cheaper of the two had a double shaft seal. I look forward to testing these further in upcoming videos.

I work by the opposite premise, buying the cheapest pump I can find and replacing it as needed. I got the powerfist from Princess Auto, acutally two of them for when one wears out. I'm still on the first pump. Cheers.

Yeah, I want something that lasts a reasonable time, but when you can spend $200 on a Rule brand that seems like it's the same thing, it would make way more sense to buy a cheap one and keep a spare handy!

It appears that you've morphed into a cross between AvE and Robert Murray-Smith

Being compared to AvE is truely SKOOKUM! :) I haven't seen Robert Murray-Smith yet, so I'll go check him out now.

I do know, that sometimes, a company will build a prototype or early iteration of a item, and if it has flaws that weren't discovered in factory testing, they will sell the entire early lot to a wholesaler and make improvements on the next lot.
I wonder if something like that happened with this pump ?
The cheaper, now not available pumps, were the early iteration lot.
Perhaps they upsized the shaft seal to 19mm and stuffed it in to the 18mm housing to provide a tighter seal around the shaft in the later iteration because the duel shaft seal relied solely on the spring rings to provide a seal that wasn't tight enough to keep water out ?
All speculation on my part. But I do know companies will sell off lots of discontinued items and they are usually discontinued because of design improvements.

Yeah, I think it must have been something like that... Interesting to dig into these a bit and see how they work!

Am interested whether what you called " volute " were identical in both pumps.
And am also interested in your future test whether current draw are significantly different

The casing around each pump that I called a "volute" looks to be identical in diameter, but the part where the bolts go is slightly different so they can't be swapped from one to the other. I'll get you some current draw information soon.

@@UtmostOutdoors Why I asked , I have seen 2 similar volutes , one was just a space around the impeller - the other had a built up section , I believe just before the outlet hole.

@goldsluicetinkerer interesting! These are both just round with no build up. I should test some inserts to see the effect.
