Alix played so well during this match; it’s some of the best beach volleyball I’ve seen her play! Australia is a great team, but the reason they couldn’t beat the USA here is that Australia depends too much on the “over on two” approach, and Alix and April were serving too aggressively for them to rely on their usual “on two” attacks. They need to have other options!
Adam Izrailov Adam Izrailov the traditional way of playing offense is with three touches-the pass, the set, and the attack. “On two” refers to when a player is served, and instead of passing the ball to his/her partner in order to receive a set, the player sets his/her partner on the first contact so that the attack can be executed on the second contact (this is so that the blocker on the opposing team does not have enough time to set up a block). Basically, instead pass (first contact), set (second contact), spike (third contact), it becomes -> set (first contact), spike (second contact). You can see Australia try the “over on two” attack at 2:30 Hope it was clear!
