      Not exactly. A true mobius strip has an infinite surface that connects both sides. Imagine a belt with a half twist. You could run your finger along the outside then at the twist your finger would now follow the inside back around to the twist where your finger would now follow back where it started on the outside. And round and round inside outside inside outside forever. On this chain there is no link to the opposite surfaces.

      No math. Think about it for a sec. If one is open one way and the other is open the other way, and you solder them together, you're left with a kind of squished figure 8 that's closed.

There is plenty of math involved in chain making.. aspect ratio is one of the most important pieces of mathematics the ratio of the circumference of the rings to the diameter of the wire and the rest of the math including when you bend the wire around a mandrel you lose wire length due to the bending
