I remember when I was a noob grinding my first line, happily driving through Ensk in my Pz IV H only to be deleted by this naval gun on tracks. Good times.
With a Turbo this tank is actually quite playable. It doesn't hit harder than the KV2 but still 440 is the alpha of the Defender and 510 is something between the Skorpion G and the SU-130PM which is not bad by any means. You are big, that's for sure, but you are going to remove two thirds of a Cromwell with it and I can say I've kiled a few unicums who were dumb enough to charge with 450-500 HP, it's very satisfying to read their salty comments and insults after the battle because Kaboom this td just slapped them really hard in the butt.
Yep, i also enjoy it way more than SU-100...all against the fact the latter is better at everything except alpha and pen... Its more like a tier 6 ISU...and the same "tactic" is needed...just dont die in first minutes and most cases the damage will come from itself by sniping... :)
Back when I played this was gifted to us. I actually won a game when a team mate was afraid to peak when he had more hp than me, so I peaked and got killed but he did get the enemy for a team win.
I did too, until two days ago (guess just lucky). I couldnt win a single game anymore, and WR in this shitbox dropped to 33% even bringing down my overall stats significant.
@@daftbence with this tank no, it can reliably pen most tanks at range. The gold feels like much of a muchness Edit: it's one of the few tanks I feel doesn't need a few gold rounds, it can punish tanks it can hit
I only load 1 gold round on this tank. And that's the first shot of the game. Pretty funny seeing the reaction of LTs that feel brave at the start of the round only to be slapped with 500+ damage.
I find that the gun, like most high alpha Soviet guns, has VERY trollish accuracy. I run an aiming device, vents and optics. No matter what build I have done over time I always come back to this one. I use a six skill crew so it certainly helps with the vehicle shortcomings. It is a good credit maker even if it is not that good otherwise.
I actually love this thing. Load the gold shells for MORE DAMAGE and it also has the 'old' TD camo (like E25) - you'd be surprised how often you don't get spotted when firing - even when you're a fridge :D
Nothing can justify the terrible combination of no armour + painfuly slow. Other tanks with this combo : type4, type5, black prince, churchillGC, churchills, ferdinand, t28 proto, chinese tech three tier 8 td, jagdtiger, su152, tiger2 before buff...you see a pattern? Edit : only rhm borsig is justified because huge cammo, huge gun with insane gold ammo, and its a turreted td
@@helpinghelper4151 SU-152 is fantastic with the 152mm gun and the 250mm pen heat rounds. And the SU-100Y isn't that slow wtf. And it has good traverse speed for its size.
This was one of my first premium tanks. I got it during a month long mission back when I started playing the game years ago. The first game I had in it was amazing. Its the pen and alfa damage that makes this tank great. At its tier tanks don't have great armor making it easier to pen and over match armor and it often one shots enemy tanks as you can see. I have not played it in years. I'm glad its still the beast it was.
I won this tank at some event last year and I remember I enjoyed ruining other people game with it. I call it "Cazan de Țuică" witch can be translated as a boiler where you put some rotten fruits, boil them and collect the alcoholic output. "Țuică" is a traditional romanian spirit.

Called it last video. This was my first premium and have a fair amount of games in it with great stats (for a noob). 2 pens and you make money. The traverse is pretty quick too, it can get people circling.

For me it's a very situational tank, but when it works, it's a beast. I do enjoy playing it, though I haven't for some time. Will have to give it a run next time I play. Loved Skill's reaction when he killed that scout in the third game, absolute gold! LOLOLOL. Why did Skill have such good games? Dad was in charge of RNG. ;)
Fun fact: in Poland we call FV4005 a fridge. So i looked at the title and I was like: skill with FV again? Oh my god! Even thought its not it still I'm not disappointed
imo, SU-100Y is actually a decent tier6 TD if you are familiar with the Bobject268 line and can predict the enemies very well, the high alpha is still quite powerful in low tier games. Besides, the 65mm pen HE means that you can actually pen a lot of Tier5-6 LTs and TDs and one-shot them at full HP, especially after the HE changes.
I got it from my friend a while back, in 2015. It was solid TD that trained many of my Soviet TD crews, but nowdays it is a bit outdated. I'm rarely taking it out.
Tbf im having the most battles in this tank.Massive alpha,penetration and good accuracy tho.this thing is shining when it can shnai opponents at range😆
To be fair and honest, it requires a shit ton of brainpower and knowledge of the game to make it work. I would not enjoy it if I would be new in the game with only like 10-20k games played. BTW: I use it with rammer/turbo/bino.

I love this tank with my whole heart. I got this with a friend as a joke and both of us actually 3 marked it. Yes it is bad, slow, trollish, and without a turret. but it hits like a truck full of memes and I still love it.
I love the tank as you don't need to use gold ammo to pen higher tiers, I use binocs, rotation and improved aiming, 3 marked with just regular ammo but took 100 games. .
This tank is a banger.....I mean you just bush camp like any other TD but you're just slow and big which makes relocating hard....So if you pick your starting location wisely you'll do just fine
I also disliked the tank in the past, but than got it for free via the tankrewards on my second account and gave it another go. What I noticed is: You may get the camo of a heavy, but the bonus from stuff like paint, camo skill and camo net is calculated for a tank destroyer. Equipment 2.0 was a blessing for that tank. With exhaust, paint and camo skill you get your camo from 6.67 up to 22.26, which is enough to work most td positions. Also the improved aiming is helping a lot to make your shots count. Third slot is binos for me, because I dont trust my allies to spot, but something like a rammer, turbo or improved rotating mechanism are also good options.
Soooo. After 3 years now its the Day when i can celebrate Christmas and Eastern in one Day. Thank You for this Video, and it was EPIC. For me the SU-100Y is a Hidden Gem! Its like a Tier6 ISU. I played around 2000 Battles with that tank and iam not joking ! Its hard to be consistant with this Tank nower days when Battles are going Quicker and Quicker. The SU cant afford to go in Front as u said, and cause of the Bad Cammo u get earlier Spotted than other TD´s. When it comes to Firepower this Tank is in his one of his own. High Alpha and Tier 7 TD Penetration are verry usefull. The Accuraty of the Gun is pretty good for his Caliber and the Modul DMG is the same like on IS7. DPM is pretty good if u remember how much DMG u get per Shot. For people who are Pation and who likes to sit in the Bush its a good Tank. I would say its better than Dicker Max but not everyone would agree with that i guess. THIS IS THE TANK WHO GAVE ME THE ADDICTION TO PLAY WOT
This td has 4 features that altogether contribute to its main big downside/weakness, which is the survivability: POOR camo both when moving as well as when static (easily spotted and hence inviting for incoming shots), really HUGE size (easily hit when shot at), WEAK armor (easily penetrated when hit) and SLOW speed (cannot relocate in a timely fashion in order to either prevent getting spotted or escape when focused). So one of your main concerns when playing this thing is trying to remain unspotted for as long as you can and to attract the least attention from the enemy team for as long as you can. In other words, the only reasonable choice on the basic "ambush/sniper" vs "assault" divide is naturally AMBUSH/SNIPER. Exceptions are when your team is already finishing off the enemy team and you also happen to have most of your hp (and are preferably top tier).. then you might venture out to maybe get some late kill or simply trade shots without risking the outcome of the battle in case you get killed. But that's pretty much as cowboy as you can get away with when playing this thing, so stay calm and wank in the bushes as a good third liner. Since gun pen is good and alpha is the highest among all tier 6 tds (premium rounds even more so), while accuracy is ok, yet reload time is very long, plus aiming time and stabilization are bad, apart from playing as an ambush td your gameplay should also be "ALPHA-based", not "dpm based". This means that you should focus more on improving your chances of HITTING targets while staying invisible and also bet on seeing the enemy before he sees you (may come handy when there are few players left or you are literally the last one vs the last of theirs), than on increasing your RoF. So I'd say gun rammer on this tank is very much optional, while rotation mechanism and/or gun laying drive and/or improved aiming are preferable, coupled with binocs or optics. Since your camo correlates with your survivability on such a tank, yet it cannot be boosted to a great value and keeping in mind i's also turretless with limited horizontal gun arc, this td might benefit more from low noise exhaust system than from a camo net, but both make sense. All this translates to staying far from action most of the time, aiming well, relocating preemptively whenever possible, preferably shooting at slower moving or static targets, either ones you can oneshot (because they have few hp left) or helping your team mates to cripple targets fat on HP and consider using some premium rounds when top tier against targets still fat on HP, because the incredible 510 alpha IS significantly higher than the already awesome 440, while keeping HE ammo count at the minimum... because in case you haven't noticed, they have been nerfed to the ground and are of little use for such a td in most situations.
I dont think this tank is a garbage, yes for sure bad platform, armour speed, but at least good and unique gun with which you can have satisfying shoots

Thanks Skill for featuring a lower tier TD on Bad Mondays. Lower Tier Players like myself appreciate your insights . TD play is not for everyone, if you do not have patience, especially with a TD with no armor and little gun depression like the SU-100Y skip this vehicle. Note Arty is more intense at lower tiers these days.
I personally call this td as the russian box. Its a box of surprise when it hits lower or same tier taking away most of their hp in one shot or.... you get surprised by artas banging you like there is no tomorrow when spotted. Day 51 for ferarri build of E25 with the Super Duper Hyper Turbocharger with tiny touch Grousers or Rotation Mechanism.
No no, Skill. It's not only your imagination, while playing lower tier tanks there are too almost 3 arta per team. But on the higher tier they're nowhere to be found or only 1 per team

Played that tank yesterday. Was in a tier 8 match, got 6 kills 3k damage, ace tanker and top spot on my team...sadly ended as a draw as the team was rather terrible and I couldn't cap in time nor kill the last arty who ran across the map. But agreed, it's a terrible tank but when everyone lines up right in front of you and you can double bush back and forth between shots it's incredibly effective.
Used to be great before 2014 when they changed armor and dmg spread on tanks. I remember when fridge came out and used to shoot for 480-630 quite often and taking 0 dmg to a gun mantle. After some patch [i think it was 7.9 or 8.9 when they made this tank life piniata and unplayable innacurate paper mess
I like this tank because if you're top tier you can easily one shot a lot of tier 4s and ~2 shot tier 5's. I have 203 games played and a 64% WR in my SU-100Y when my overall WR is only ~51~52% in ~19k games. My avg damage is only 1010 but I have 1 MoE.
To answer the question at the beginning. I think its not as bad as you seem to tell us. Its a very decent redline warrior/bushwanker. Don't try to do much besides that tho
I played it mostly as a noob and was going great in it doing passive sniping. Then I got a bit more experience, started to push a bit willing to trade with it's amazing alpha (for tier VI) - and had a few losing battles in a row. Now after 56 battles I'm at 55% WR (and it's better than most of the tanks I own). Go figure.
#3 Tier 6 TD by win8, beat only by Excalibur and Churchill GC (another sh*t box). Compare to Hellcat, which is ranked in 9th place :O This refrigerator is full of treats.
I think this tank is hilarious, in both positive and negative ways. You either ruin someones day or your day is ruined, there is no in between. Also, it is arty food even now.
My most-played tank - somehow I always come back to it. I am a sub-mediocre player with 49%- WR, but with this tank it is 50%+. Go figure, I guess when you hit with this tank, it counts. :)

One of my good old favourite premiums. The gun can be trollish but I have absolutely dominated many-many games with it. It has a very good fun factor.

I like SU100Y. Binocs and stay at long range and near hard cover (ridge, rock, building). Be ready to retreat early if the flank is falling.

In other words, the only reasonable choice on the basic "ambush/sniper" vs "assault" divide is naturally AMBUSH/SNIPER. Exceptions are when your team is already finishing off the enemy team and you also happen to have most of your hp (and are preferably top tier).. then you might venture out to maybe get some late kill or simply trade shots without risking the outcome of the battle in case you get killed. But that's pretty much as cowboy as you can get away with when playing this thing, so stay calm and wank in the bushes as a good third liner.
Since gun pen is good and alpha is the highest among all tier 6 tds (premium rounds even more so), while accuracy is ok, yet reload time is very long, plus aiming time and stabilization are bad, apart from playing as an ambush td your gameplay should also be "ALPHA-based", not "dpm based". This means that you should focus more on improving your chances of HITTING targets while staying invisible and also bet on seeing the enemy before he sees you (may come handy when there are few players left or you are literally the last one vs the last of theirs), than on increasing your RoF. So I'd say gun rammer on this tank is very much optional, while rotation mechanism and/or gun laying drive and/or improved aiming are preferable, coupled with binocs or optics. Since your camo correlates with your survivability on such a tank, yet it cannot be boosted to a great value and keeping in mind i's also turretless with limited horizontal gun arc, this td might benefit more from low noise exhaust system than from a camo net, but both make sense.
All this translates to staying far from action most of the time, aiming well, relocating preemptively whenever possible, preferably shooting at slower moving or static targets, either ones you can oneshot (because they have few hp left) or helping your team mates to cripple targets fat on HP and consider using some premium rounds when top tier against targets still fat on HP, because the incredible 510 alpha IS significantly higher than the already awesome 440, while keeping HE ammo count at the minimum... because in case you haven't noticed, they have been nerfed to the ground and are of little use for such a td in most situations.

Thanks Skill for featuring a lower tier TD on Bad Mondays. Lower Tier Players like myself appreciate your insights . TD play is not for everyone, if you do not have patience, especially with a TD with no armor and little gun depression like the SU-100Y skip this vehicle. Note Arty is more intense at lower tiers these days.

I personally call this td as the russian box. Its a box of surprise when it hits lower or same tier taking away most of their hp in one shot or.... you get surprised by artas banging you like there is no tomorrow when spotted.

Played that tank yesterday. Was in a tier 8 match, got 6 kills 3k damage, ace tanker and top spot on my team...sadly ended as a draw as the team was rather terrible and I couldn't cap in time nor kill the last arty who ran across the map. But agreed, it's a terrible tank but when everyone lines up right in front of you and you can double bush back and forth between shots it's incredibly effective.

Used to be great before 2014 when they changed armor and dmg spread on tanks. I remember when fridge came out and used to shoot for 480-630 quite often and taking 0 dmg to a gun mantle. After some patch [i think it was 7.9 or 8.9 when they made this tank life piniata and unplayable innacurate paper mess
I like this tank because if you're top tier you can easily one shot a lot of tier 4s and ~2 shot tier 5's. I have 203 games played and a 64% WR in my SU-100Y when my overall WR is only ~51~52% in ~19k games. My avg damage is only 1010 but I have 1 MoE.
OMG I like this tank. I can wiggle out 3-4 shots in this locomotive on tracks. I like tir 8 one too.

I actually like this tank. On many occasions it’s more accurate than my Grille 15 lol!
I played it mostly as a noob and was going great in it doing passive sniping.
Then I got a bit more experience, started to push a bit willing to trade with it's amazing alpha (for tier VI) - and had a few losing battles in a row.
Now after 56 battles I'm at 55% WR (and it's better than most of the tanks I own). Go figure.
#3 Tier 6 TD by win8, beat only by Excalibur and Churchill GC (another sh*t box). Compare to Hellcat, which is ranked in 9th place :O This refrigerator is full of treats.
I think this tank is hilarious, in both positive and negative ways. You either ruin someones day or your day is ruined, there is no in between. Also, it is arty food even now.
My most-played tank - somehow I always come back to it. I am a sub-mediocre player with 49%- WR, but with this tank it is 50%+. Go figure, I guess when you hit with this tank, it counts. :)
