For everyone who came here wanting see barebow, and then complaining that the archers are using stabilizers, allow me to enlighten you.
The different classes are defined by the gear used.
Barebow allowed stabilizers in 2017, when this was filmed. The rules have changed so that now (2021) the riser and any attachments must fit through a 12.2cm ring. This means the longer stabilizers are no longer allowed, and instead small, dense weights are used to achieve the correct balance.
If you want to see wooden bows, shot off the shelf, without weights or plungers, etc, then you are wanting to watch the traditional class.
So before you comment, remember, there are rules. The classes are named according to those rules, not based on your personal feelings.

The goal is to make more pressure, hence why they are put literally in the spotlight, on elevated platforms, getting their scores announced, and given the small interviews. It shows the competitiveness of the archers and brings out the best

I'm a beginning archer so forgive me if this is a stupid question...what's with the stabilisers? isn't that contrary to the barebow rules? or at least against the barebow philosophy?

    • @biketron
      @biketron 2 роки тому

Not sure if you found the answer to your question but if you haven't here is the reason. This competition was back in 2017, back then stabilizers were allowed in barebow. As for the philosophy that may be subjective. Even with a stabilizer one could say it's still barebow since the archer is not using a sight.
I almost want to say that modern bows are so advanced does it really matter. Modern archers have the full kit, machined aluminum or carbon riser and carbon limbs. Is a stabilzer really taking away from anything?

Okay, I've read through a lot of these comments and can't believe the number of folks taking issue with the style of bows that are being used.
I have no affiliation with Lancaster Archery. I just started archery again, after about a 30 year away from the sport. I just bought a 35# Samick Sage and one for my daughter from a mom and pop shop that is barely keeping the doors open.
In the last month, in my new found interest in the sport, I have researched and found Lancaster Archery to be one of, if not, the Largest retailer in the archery merchandising universe. That being said, don't you think Lancaster Archery knows a thing or two or three or four or...about the classification of bows for archery competitions, of course they do; in one way or anothet, they are one of American archery's most influential enterprises. So, a bunch of rank amateurs and neophytes are questioning one of America's leading authorities on the issue of whether or not these professionals were really using a 'barebow', and the big point of contention is the fact that their bows somehow violated the traditional sensibilities by the use of a stabilizer.
C'mon, Lancaster Archery knows the bounds of decency so as to not offend the general archery centered public's notion of proper bow nomlnclature. For those taking exception to the use of "barebow" in this competition, then don't watch NASCAR or for that matter, super-modified or late-model stock car racing because the cars are not even close to being 'stock'.
When you become a leading authority in archery and have some of the world's best archers in your employ and when you have a top tier archery tournament series then you can call your tournament competition whatever you want; then you can kiss-off some of the sponsorship money from euipment vendors that manufacture and sell neat items like stabilizers and for the real purists, kiss-off vendor sponsorship money and retail revenue from items like sights, releases, rests, aluminum and composite risers and limbs and any arrow not comprised of a wooden shaft.
Most are questioning the the stabilizer and some are questioning the inorganic structure of the bows and some are questioning the distance and the fact that it is indoors. The fact is, the competitors are all under the same rules, are tops at their game and these rules are well established under the purvue of leading archery experts.
The same folks bitching about the stabilizers, the bow construction and the distance are the same folks that demean the compound bow community;when watching a compound competition, these are the same folks that state, "anybody can shoot (accurately) a compound. Well, if it is that easy, then strap it on and take your game to the tournament circuit, where it is a matter of centimeters and often millimeters between moving on, let alone winning even a club meet.
Bottom line, quit the complaining (I was going to say, "bitching") and enjoy the expertise demonstrated by these archers on a LEVEL playing field. All technology goes through and evolutionary life cycle. In the early era of motor sport racing, a race vehicle required two occupants, one to drive the vehicle and one to operate a pump to pressurize the fuel tank. Equipment changes. When Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt started racing in NASCAR, the vehicles were actually a bone stock frame and body, the same as you would buy from a dealer; they had modified built engines and suspensions and safety items like rollbars, fuel tanks and brakes; they didn't even have power assisted steering, next to no aero package and were essentially beefed up, more powerful Sunday drivers(the vehicles, not the occupant). By the end of their careers, their vehicles were purpose built racecars, where not one piece of equipment could be found on a production vehicle. But yet they are still referred to as, "stock cars". That is because they look much more like a stock production vehicle than a state-of-the-art formula 1 car.
When taking a break from the 'chicken or the egg argument, if you as
'purist' want to see a 'real barebow competition, I'm sure you can find one and when you do, just crank up your old Model A and go for it, just leave early, because at a speed of 45 mph, it is going to take you a while to get there. But then again, that shouldn't bother a 'purist' living in the free and easy good old days, when men were men and the life expectancy was 45 and a leading cause of death was an infected tooth or worse yet, child birth.

I notice their anchoring points are very different compared to other barebow archers seen in videos by World Archery. I am a novice barebow archer and i use a similar anchor point (mouth to cheekbone) as seen in this video.
But I also know excellent barebow archers who pull their arrows right to the eye and leave a significant gap between the arrow and their fingers. Can someone enlighten me on the pro and cons about the two different techniques?

Great shots, but soooo much odd technique.
And I thought barebow didnt allow a front stabilizer or plunger?

    • @Daniel-so4fl
      @Daniel-so4fl 7 років тому +2

I don't think they're following World Archery / FITA -rules. If you shoot barebow by WA / FITA -rules, you may use a weight (a small cylindrical attachment to the riser just below the handle, sticks out a few inches from the riser and usually weighs anywhere from half a pound to two pounds) but you are indeed not allowed to use front stabilizers, not even the short ones used in this video.
Plungers on the other hand are allowed in barebow according to WA / FITA.
As for the technique - I agree with you. Two things in particular that I noticed about some of these archers is that they struggle a lot with keeping a consistent draw length - it is the biggest challenge that barebow archers have to deal with, but if you're inconsistent it's going to cost you a lot of points - and issues with the release. A smooth release is caused by a combination of strong back tension and relaxed finger muscles, and this is key to consistency - without it, your arrows will go off to the side. That's why the first guy, D Martin, lost - his release caused his arrows to hit all over the face of the target, and his inconsistent draw length caused several of his arrows to go low.

And so if the "lesser" archer qualifies higher than the "great" archer, then is the "lesser" archer really a "lesser" archer?

Amanda Shiers They choose an anchor point and position on the string below the nock so that it is point-on at each distance. That is the essential difference between bare bow and traditional archery.

i never understood why guys gunbarreled arrows shooting instinctive..its not,,its aiming,,with the arrow the same u would a pin..just shoot a pin..1 finger up and 2 underneathe knock and u see the scores blowup..i shot years ago with jimplome if im spelling it rite..he owned cascade archery at one point i believe and in 300 round on a blue face single spot watched him shoot 296 with a nail for a rest and true instictive shooting..no gun barreling..the most amazing thing ive seen in archery in 30 yrs of being a shooter

I wouldn't call it "Barebow", they have stabilizers all over the bow. I'm not downing their talent. They obviously have a lot of talent and skill. But to call it Barebow and talk about it like they are walking out with a one piece longbow and wooden arrows, it's honestly a little annoying.

Matt McNulty there is a difference between barebow and traditional. Barebow is one under a Olympic recurve set up. Traditional Recurve is well traditional. When they say barebow division it's based on Olympic recurves stripped down

Give them a break! The fact is archery is common to all human civilizations. If you want to nitpick than maybe you should get back on your PlayStation and be a legend in your own mind. The criticism you level should be at yourself. Archery is humbling and truly is a discovery of yourself.

That’s not a barebow if you are using a stabilizers, and you can’t compare Olympic archery to this so called barebow archery because Olympic archers shoots up to 70 yards. Try using a barebow outdoors and see how hard it is to hit a 10. Don’t divide the archery community by saying oh they don’t sights or stabilization device BS, and how can you focus when this guy keeps blabbering around...

This is not like the barebow achery that my mother and father shoot with a standard long bow , real fletched arrows.
We as children also shoot from the age of five up.
I stopped shooting because of bone problems and can say that a real acher does not need a clicker, when the arrow tip is resting on your bow hand , you are at full draw.
I think that there are few now who could string walk or kiss sight.
None tge less its good to see achery still finds as many archers asvthrre are in the eorld today, its a really good sport where you dont get riots or idiot spectators, maybe because they could quickly become the target!!!!!!!

    • @roberthornbrook4780

ChrisDSX there is a difference between barebow recurve and traditional recurve. If someone shoots in a Asa tournament they would shoot barebow recurve. So they shoot bows like that. Traditional Recurve is completely bare, no rest or stabilizers.
