  • Thanksgiving (Miigwechiwi-giizhigad) can be complicated for Native people. There are many different perspectives from many different nations. Here are my personal thoughts about this holiday.

James, what a great way of thinking about it. Many people hold a lot of regret and hatred about the way things have happened. Yet, the day has always been a celebration about being kind and helping others. we have a tradition in my house (im sure many people do this) where before we eat, we each say something that we are thankful for. be it a lesson e learned (or sometimes relearned) recently, an opportunity given to us, et cetera. It always seems like a great idea

I was taught treat others as I would want to be treated…. Many cultures live by this code maybe by another name but the same ☘️

In my family thanksgiving is literal in the sense of what we can be thankful for in our lives and simply for family and health!my family understands the way the holiday was celebrated and how wrong the history’s were written. It’s just a great day to enjoy one another and be happy we’re healthy and have each other

Makes me think of MiinoBiimadziiwin.. The good life.. As I understand it.. Spoken in conjunction with other other words it really comes to life.. To walk the good life is a way to exspess a certain gratitude forbeing a part of all life and in a way as it occers to me a way of saying Thankyou Creator as I feel it when I say it.. It fills me with a sense of being together walking with others in a good way is kind of honoring to our being together and acknowledging it's speritual not about money or trading for money or stuff but rather for the sharing that happened on a spiritual level.. Well It means so much more also..

I don't celebrate Thanksgiving as every day we should be giving thanks.
