I just talked with my grandma about this documentary. He has been one of the refugees that traveled from Königsberg (today Russia) over the frozen ocean to Hamburg. Their plan was it to get on the Gustloff. Lucky they didn’t made it. Otherwise I wouldn’t exist. His father came out of Russian captivity a few years later but he never talked about what happened. While our conversation my grandpa collapsed a few times and cried. It’s crazy what they have been going thru and how good our life’s are these days. And people are still complaining.
