If the oil is coming from the wiring the problem is most likely the rubber stopper that the wiring go through. The cheap fix would be to remove the cover clean all of the oil out of the rubber stopper and add black RTV silicone to each wire at the junction and replace cover gasket. The right way would be to replace the wiring harness with a new rubber stopper and new gasket. The rubber and wires become hard and brittle over time, hence the leaking.
@@Backyardcycle Thank you for the quick reply! New sub! The rubber is still rubberlike, but I guess its the part of the stopper that is inside the crankcase. I initially lost about .3 liters of oil now that I think of it. But me being an idiot, I put in 2.3 liters because I thought I lost a substantial amount so it started leaking again but way more of course. I tried looking at the oil level but everything is dark, didn't realize I overfilled it till I saw the new oil way (because its lighter in color) above the median where it should be from the viewing port. What do you call the stopper? Can I buy that separate? I'd rather replace the stopper and the gasket (since I have to open the case) myself than spend $300 in a shop.
@@Graelock if you look at the 1 minute part in the video you can see me coating the brand new rubber stopper( which is part of the wiring harness) with silicone. They are prone to leaking around the wires so it’s best to add RTV silicone even when brand new.
@@Backyardcycle Damn, I can't find just the rubber for the stator coil wiring, hate to buy a new stator coil. Do you think just putting RTV around the outside of the crankcase would work?
@@GraelockIt should, my gasket broke and I was leaking from everywhere but the rubber wiring gasket. I have now a different issue. I changed Stator, Pickup Coils, Starter Relay, Rectifier, Battery and still not charging battery, in fact will kill any brand new battery I put on. If anybody has idea how to fix this let me you. Until then, I will still using sport bike for long trips even if numb my back and wrists.
Thx you so much. This video made me realize where my oil leaks from and what gasket i need to fix it
It is possible you might actually have a neutral switch and/or tap it cover leak as well.
Hello, good video, how much did you tighten the cover screws? N.m
What are you doing with the socket through the big middle hole in the cover when you put it back on?
What oil did you use
Great video 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed
I got a question, for some reason my V Star is leaking oil from the stator wiring that comes out of the crankcase. Is the O-ring the problem?

how much time did you taketo doing the pick up removal and install new one ?
Took about 2 hours from bringing the bike in to rolling it back out.
