Keep in mind Mar already existed, as Damas is his descendant. Plus the depictions of Mar in statues and art did not look like Jak at all, nor does Jak have the same demeanor or intellect. The Precursors knew Mar, and if Jak was THAT Mar, they would have said as such.

Jak gets ready to fight Klaww, Daxter suggests he stay behind and protect Keira. By the way, he does this in all three main games. He even suggests to stay behind and protect Sig of all people! Runs away from giant spider. Gets terrified of Dark Jak. Basically, if he gets threatened, he turns into a massive wimp. You wanna know why he sticks around with Jak despite the danger? Because from Jak 2 onwards, Jak is a Dark Eco infused, gun totting, mass slayer of monsters and bad guys who is not afraid to defend Daxter who fight anyone. Jak literally would've fought nearly all of Haven City's people if he wanted to. If anything, Daxter is safest with Jak, because of this. As a fan, I think I can tolerate more than most. I was OK with Jak's new design and voice. I was willing to bare through the bad design and storyline. I was even willing to suffer through the fact that this game really has no purpose in existing and has nothing to do with the other games. But the moment that they made Jak so out of character the he's actually happy that Daxter, his BEST friend in the entire world, keeps turning into a Dark Eco beast which will most likely KILL him over time, I was like that's it. This is a terrible fanfiction and I'm going to treat it as such. Can't wait for Naughty Dog to get their act together and make the real Jak and Daxter 4!

I was using them as an example because they apparently had a close relationship when the PS2 was being bombarded with platformers. Nowadays those games are almost nonexistent. Thinking about it now, I can see why a lot of people fiend for games like Dark Souls. Even so, UC3 was "Supposed" to end there and Drake was supposed to be retired with his wife. So this UC4 is 100% a Sony cash cow. I can see how fans of Jak claim it as a generic series, and I see it the same way, but it was generic from the get go and it was made like that on purpose. Its easier to make money off games like that.
Maria Luke I rewatched it and looked a little more closely. I can see that they're there, but the fact that I have to look for it is not a good thing. Heck, the fact I had to ask myself whether it was there or not when I first saw this is a huge red flag.

The concept of the story is actually good. If only naughty dog made it themselves. "There's no more ego left in the world" very good (although some could argue cliche) but it is also relevant to our own destroying of the environment.
The control of jak is less fluid than in the original games, it takes some time to get used to his movements, especially when you know the original trilogy. On ps2 they could have made an effort for the graphics, at times it's really not beautiful. However, there are some good points: The aerial phases and the personalization of the ships, not so bad. The soundtrack of the game has nothing to do with the previous ones, (like the game in itself) but really nice and epic at times. The small town of Aeropa, well designed. The reference to Jak 2 and how it affects the story of the game. The High Impact Games vision on eco is interesting. The concept of the "Eco core" is not bad, and the way the dark eco was used for dark eco warriors. The fact that the story respects the original trilogy without adding events that could alter the vision of naughty dog on the saga. The lurker that is in Far Drop, "Barter", which makes me think a lot about Brutter (Jak 2). It's nice to see a lurker. Despite of this, this game remains for me, a simple spinn off, I liked it, but I don't have the same feeling as when I play the other games. Not the same quality, not the same level design, not the same concept with world in real time... Enjoyable, but it's a far drop (lol) from the original trilogy, Daxter, and Jak X. Playing on Psp rather than Ps2, 'cause the portage is a simple copy of The psp version.

The game is good, and I currently playing it once again on PPSSPP. 'Loved the pirates story, steampunk background, dogfights, music, cutscenes... Maybe it's not the same quality as previous Jak games, but it's still one of the greatest psp games, and I enjoyed it more than Daxter, even if Daxter is really more faithful to the original lore, I thought it was too repetitive. I played and beat this game and whereas the environments were amazing and the gameplay was okay, the story was terrible. On the back of the box it said in Dutch ''A new story that perfectly fits wth the original.'' Biggest lie I've ever heard, honestly. The original three had a great storyline, and The Lost Frontier just shoved everything I loved about it back into my face. The new characters were boring and empty as fuck. I missed Torn, Ashelin, Samos, Pecker, Sig and all the others that made the series what it was. I think the Brink is a cool location, but the story could've been much better. Also funny how green eco was used to power a grenade launcher. Kinda like making explosives using medicine. lol
I am a real fan of the Jak and Daxter series. Literally got a Precursor tattoo on me. At first I didn't care for Jak X but it grew on me and Naughty Dog was at the helm so no regrets...When I heard about this...thing... and how it wasn't by Naughty Dog and how they did all this crap to it...I refused to support it and I still don't count it in the Jak and Daxter universe.
I remember the excitement I felt when I heard of a new Jak & Daxter game - and the disappointment that came when I played it. Despite being a hardcore fan because Jak & Daxter was the starting game for my nerdiness (heck - I even bought the PSP just for Daxter!) I couldn't bring myself to like this game. So I'd like to write my top 13 reasons why the game who must not be named (The Lost frontier" sucks! So grab yourself some popcorn.. 1. No Light Jak or Dark Jak because of "unstable" eco, well the Auropeans can turn into Dark. AND WHY THE FUCK CAN DAXTER TURN INTO DARK DAXTER THEN? 2. The game doesn't continue the true story, at all. It's just messing it up. 3. Jak is the only one who can survive the Dark Eco process, because he is from the House of Mar, so it doesn't make any sence how the whole Auropean city became "Dark Eco Freaks" 4. They removed the holy Jet Board of holyness! 5. They removed the Morph Gun and replaced it with some kind of "stick" where you can attach gun mods on. The weapons is different and has worse range than in the previous games, the blaster mod shoots ridiculously slow. You can't even put the stick on your back! 6. They made a new weapon called "The Lobber" which is a HORRIBLE replacement to the Peace Maker. 7. Planes. Oh my god. Jak and Daxter doesn't have anything to do with Planes, sky battles, the environment when driving a plane, it's just like 4 mountains and the rest is endless water. 6. The cutscenes was boring, the animation felt cheap. 7. Jak and Daxter's personality, no aggression no anger. They used to make fun jokes, didn't they? 8. The gameplay were repetitive, go in there, shoot all enemies, go to your plane, fight a sky battle. It happens the whole game. 9. Probably the worst one right here: Dark Daxter. My god, it was awful. First off, the gameplay for Dark Daxter were boring as hell. Dark Daxter isn't even possible because Daxter is a precursor, and if a precursor is infected with Dark Eco, it becomes a Dark Maker. Seriously High Impact Games? Follow the story, goddamnit. 10. All the old characters is gone, it's the "world's end" that they call it. I'm pretty sure Ashelin, Torn, Sig, Samos and all the others are willing to go with them. 11. The story sucked. Eco Pirates vs Dark Eco Freaks? Why don't put ninjas in there? The story is living on a joke by the way, because of the unstable eco. So it should've been Eco Pirates vs Freaks. 12. Keira is ugly. 13. Josh Keaton get out, Mike Erwin get your ass into the studio.
Everything's wrong with this game. Good thing I got it at low price on a sellout. And it's a detail but it does much, the music is a total ripoff of Pirates of the Caribbean.
It's a decent jumping point for the fourth game but yeah number 9 is the one that killed it for me this was pretty much a filler game. Let's hope they don't muck it up.
i watched a playthrough of this game and it looked fun, wish i had gotten it but i was too blinded by nostalgia back then to see that it wasn't made by naughty dog and was more of a tribute to the jak series than anything.
***** Same happened with Insomniac, they handed the rights of R&C to other companies. Though the voice actors have almost never changed, the character design went from an all-ages punk rebel Ratchet design to an un-intimidating weak looking child-Lombax. And Cpt. Quark went from his design that boasted 'conceited and smug', his body designed almost looked as if he had pillows stuffed underneath his suit to make him appear strong. The new design is just bland. As for the game's comedy, it went from crude to childish. I had to add my opinion on Ratchet and Clank, as it was also one of my favourite games.
the only thing that kept my interest was the lore concerning the jak and daxter world. I knew jak's "uncle" was an explorer and that meant there was unexplored areas of the world, but that was the past so there was more world known in the future. however they were not aware of the wastelander city so its possible not all of the world was explored or if it was, facts were omitted for secrecy. The edge of the world and the foggy depths below were interesting as well as getting to know how the precursor eco system worked and how far it ran. I also liked how there was subtle detail to jaks head that looks similar to the mar statue features.
Just imagine that Jak X had WAAAYY better graphics and an immensely better and continuing storyline for a game that was solely racing and battle royale competitions.
Honestly? I tried to give this game a chance. I really, truly did. But I couldn't even play 30 minutes of it. I was so saddened by how bad this game was. The graphics were so poorly done, the combat system was all wrong, the cutscenes didn't even look finished, and the voice acting....dear LORD the voice acting. It made me shake my head and facepalm every single time they talked :/

Anne Dugan I did everything until the end hunt mission. But apparently because I had picked the wrong plane to fly with it wasn't possible to finish the game and I'd sooner spend a year in hell than start playing this game AGAIN.

I thought the voice acting was pretty good, but the character animation was subpar for the series standards and didn't bring it out well, so it felt awkward. You can have the greatest VA performance in the world, and if the animation falls flat, everything falls flat.
I remember I got into an argument about Jak's goatee in this game being gone, but let's be real here; Jak's appearance in this game is just the no goatee secret code version of Jak X's Jak with a pilot coat on. I mean, he has the same exact hairstyle.

I know im gonna be murderd for this but i played it like 24 times now on my psp(mostly during the long Trips in the family rv from germany to italy) and I enjoyed it every time.
Captain Phoenix is the epitome of unintentionally unsympathetic. He's not only prejudiced towards Jak for being all he knows is one of the many innocents experimented on with Dark Eco, but he's willing to attack innocent travelers for their eco and even seems to get a sadistic glee over recollecting "pillaging" in his early pirate days.
Believe or not, these were MY IDEAS. I had the idea for dark daxter and the eco in crystal form. I pitched this to naughty dog/Sony and they told me they wouldn’t give me any credit whatsoever for submitting my ideas. But it looks like I wasn’t the only one who thought that.

I Prefer To Think This Happens in another timeline non canon of the Jak series, being Like an apocaliptic future or something, leaving this game Like That And then Naughty Dog years later it Would Have Been cool to continue with the real Jak 4, Following the story after the events of Jak X, maybe saying in the game how many years Have pass since then, For example Like they did from Jak and Daxter to Jak II, and That way Naughty Dog Could explained Everything and Make a Hole new better game Also it Would Have Been cool to play as jak but with the Jak X suit and Having Daxter On his shoulder but with his pants lol And In The Game add all of Jak's eco powers, using and switching from Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Light and Dark, it Would've Been Awesome And Finally Give It an honorably and Great Ending to the Jak series, even leaving the game with a comment of jak or daxter saying something of the next adventure, just in case xD

i've only been to the Eropan flight ship / citty twice. at the start of the game, then at the end of the game. there was just NO access to it. when i was there the first time, there seemed to be those challenge triggers that give off orbs. some were even impossible to access because we were too early in the game. BUT at the end, they are not accessable! WTF GAME!?

The concept of the story is actually good. If only naughty dog made it themselves. "There's no more ego left in the world" very good (although some could argue cliche) but it is also relevant to our own destroying of the environment.

The control of jak is less fluid than in the original games, it takes some time to get used to his movements, especially when you know the original trilogy. On ps2 they could have made an effort for the graphics, at times it's really not beautiful. However, there are some good points:
The aerial phases and the personalization of the ships, not so bad.
The soundtrack of the game has nothing to do with the previous ones, (like the game in itself) but really nice and epic at times.
The small town of Aeropa, well designed.
The reference to Jak 2 and how it affects the story of the game.
The High Impact Games vision on eco is interesting. The concept of the "Eco core" is not bad, and the way the dark eco was used for dark eco warriors.
The fact that the story respects the original trilogy without adding events that could alter the vision of naughty dog on the saga. The lurker that is in Far Drop, "Barter", which makes me think a lot about Brutter (Jak 2). It's nice to see a lurker.
Despite of this, this game remains for me, a simple spinn off, I liked it, but I don't have the same feeling as when I play the other games. Not the same quality, not the same level design, not the same concept with world in real time...
Enjoyable, but it's a far drop (lol) from the original trilogy, Daxter, and Jak X.
Playing on Psp rather than Ps2, 'cause the portage is a simple copy of The psp version.

The game is good, and I currently playing it once again on PPSSPP. 'Loved the pirates story, steampunk background, dogfights, music, cutscenes... Maybe it's not the same quality as previous Jak games, but it's still one of the greatest psp games, and I enjoyed it more than Daxter, even if Daxter is really more faithful to the original lore, I thought it was too repetitive. What I really loved about TLF were the aircrafts levels, so good ! Have a good day/night dude ;-)
I played and beat this game and whereas the environments were amazing and the gameplay was okay, the story was terrible. On the back of the box it said in Dutch ''A new story that perfectly fits wth the original.'' Biggest lie I've ever heard, honestly.
The original three had a great storyline, and The Lost Frontier just shoved everything I loved about it back into my face. The new characters were boring and empty as fuck. I missed Torn, Ashelin, Samos, Pecker, Sig and all the others that made the series what it was. I think the Brink is a cool location, but the story could've been much better.
Also funny how green eco was used to power a grenade launcher. Kinda like making explosives using medicine. lol

I am a real fan of the Jak and Daxter series. Literally got a Precursor tattoo on me. At first I didn't care for Jak X but it grew on me and Naughty Dog was at the helm so no regrets...When I heard about this...thing... and how it wasn't by Naughty Dog and how they did all this crap to it...I refused to support it and I still don't count it in the Jak and Daxter universe.

I remember the excitement I felt when I heard of a new Jak & Daxter game - and the disappointment that came when I played it. Despite being a hardcore fan because Jak & Daxter was the starting game for my nerdiness (heck - I even bought the PSP just for Daxter!) I couldn't bring myself to like this game. Everything but the intro is a catastrophe to me.

So I'd like to write my top 13 reasons why the game who must not be named (The Lost frontier" sucks!
So grab yourself some popcorn..
1. No Light Jak or Dark Jak because of "unstable" eco, well the Auropeans can turn into Dark. AND WHY THE FUCK CAN DAXTER TURN INTO DARK DAXTER THEN?
2. The game doesn't continue the true story, at all. It's just messing it up.
3. Jak is the only one who can survive the Dark Eco process, because he is from the House of Mar, so it doesn't make any sence how the whole Auropean city became "Dark Eco Freaks"
4. They removed the holy Jet Board of holyness!
5. They removed the Morph Gun and replaced it with some kind of "stick" where you can attach gun mods on. The weapons is different and has worse range than in the previous games, the blaster mod shoots ridiculously slow. You can't even put the stick on your back!
6. They made a new weapon called "The Lobber" which is a HORRIBLE replacement to the Peace Maker.
7. Planes. Oh my god. Jak and Daxter doesn't have anything to do with Planes, sky battles, the environment when driving a plane, it's just like 4 mountains and the rest is endless water.
6. The cutscenes was boring, the animation felt cheap.
7. Jak and Daxter's personality, no aggression no anger. They used to make fun jokes, didn't they?
8. The gameplay were repetitive, go in there, shoot all enemies, go to your plane, fight a sky battle. It happens the whole game.
9. Probably the worst one right here: Dark Daxter. My god, it was awful. First off, the gameplay for Dark Daxter were boring as hell. Dark Daxter isn't even possible because Daxter is a precursor, and if a precursor is infected with Dark Eco, it becomes a Dark Maker. Seriously High Impact Games? Follow the story, goddamnit.
10. All the old characters is gone, it's the "world's end" that they call it. I'm pretty sure Ashelin, Torn, Sig, Samos and all the others are willing to go with them.
11. The story sucked. Eco Pirates vs Dark Eco Freaks? Why don't put ninjas in there? The story is living on a joke by the way, because of the unstable eco. So it should've been Eco Pirates vs Freaks.
12. Keira is ugly.

And it's a detail but it does much, the music is a total ripoff of Pirates of the Caribbean.
It's a decent jumping point for the fourth game but yeah number 9 is the one that killed it for me this was pretty much a filler game. Let's hope they don't muck it up.

i watched a playthrough of this game and it looked fun, wish i had gotten it but i was too blinded by nostalgia back then to see that it wasn't made by naughty dog and was more of a tribute to the jak series than anything.

The voice actors and the character models should not of changed, they were perfect how they were.
this is what happens when you give the rights of game series to a company that has no idea what Jak & Daxter is about.

Though the voice actors have almost never changed, the character design went from an all-ages punk rebel Ratchet design to an un-intimidating weak looking child-Lombax.
And Cpt. Quark went from his design that boasted 'conceited and smug', his body designed almost looked as if he had pillows stuffed underneath his suit to make him appear strong. The new design is just bland.
As for the game's comedy, it went from crude to childish.
I had to add my opinion on Ratchet and Clank, as it was also one of my favourite games.

the only thing that kept my interest was the lore concerning the jak and daxter world. I knew jak's "uncle" was an explorer and that meant there was unexplored areas of the world, but that was the past so there was more world known in the future. however they were not aware of the wastelander city so its possible not all of the world was explored or if it was, facts were omitted for secrecy. The edge of the world and the foggy depths below were interesting as well as getting to know how the precursor eco system worked and how far it ran. I also liked how there was subtle detail to jaks head that looks similar to the mar statue features.

Honestly? I tried to give this game a chance. I really, truly did. But I couldn't even play 30 minutes of it. I was so saddened by how bad this game was. The graphics were so poorly done, the combat system was all wrong, the cutscenes didn't even look finished, and the voice acting....dear LORD the voice acting. It made me shake my head and facepalm every single time they talked :/
Anne Dugan I don't think I've ever played a game where I'm just shaking my head and cringing every few seconds at some awful line of dialogue or whispering in horror, "Oh my GOD, this game is so bad," or variations thereof.
Anne Dugan I did everything until the end hunt mission. But apparently because I had picked the wrong plane to fly with it wasn't possible to finish the game and I'd sooner spend a year in hell than start playing this game AGAIN.
+Rimfaxe96 To be fair, that's probably when it stopped being a game - when it became a chore. The plane missions always seemed to be a study in tedium, in my opinion. (That 'do it three times' formula bludgeoned upside the head was a likely culprit. They never really changed it up like ND did.)
MOOP000 It wouldn't have felt like a chore if at least the game design would have been better - these days I'd get eye cancer from this game, unlike TLF's predecessors from Naughty Dog.
I thought the voice acting was pretty good, but the character animation was subpar for the series standards and didn't bring it out well, so it felt awkward. You can have the greatest VA performance in the world, and if the animation falls flat, everything falls flat.
I remember I got into an argument about Jak's goatee in this game being gone, but let's be real here; Jak's appearance in this game is just the no goatee secret code version of Jak X's Jak with a pilot coat on. I mean, he has the same exact hairstyle.

I looked this game up and it said it launched on PSP. It really shows.
I know im gonna be murderd for this but i played it like 24 times now on my psp(mostly during the long Trips in the family rv from germany to italy) and I enjoyed it every time.
Captain Phoenix is the epitome of unintentionally unsympathetic. He's not only prejudiced towards Jak for being all he knows is one of the many innocents experimented on with Dark Eco, but he's willing to attack innocent travelers for their eco and even seems to get a sadistic glee over recollecting "pillaging" in his early pirate days.

Believe or not, these were MY IDEAS. I had the idea for dark daxter and the eco in crystal form. I pitched this to naughty dog/Sony and they told me they wouldn’t give me any credit whatsoever for submitting my ideas. But it looks like I wasn’t the only one who thought that.

i've only been to the Eropan flight ship / citty twice.
at the start of the game, then at the end of the game. there was just NO access to it.
when i was there the first time, there seemed to be those challenge triggers that give off orbs.
some were even impossible to access because we were too early in the game.
BUT at the end, they are not accessable!

Unlike most Jak and Daxter fans, I actually enjoyed this game. It could have been better though. But nonetheless, I enjoyed it.
ECDT1089 that's how i feel. like, if Naughty Dog had made it in *their* image, then it most likely would have been great :D i think it was things like the crap camera controls, the loss of ND's signature moves (spin kick, crouch, etc.) Jak practically turning into a HALO character with each upgrade and a few other things, it wudda been nice
