When I consider the leap in quality, production, tech, etc., I always end up looking at WW2, both during and post. We marvel at "new tech" or "new engineering" that we are enjoying now or that's being talked about; its fascinating how so much of it was developed during WW2. A great generation created great things out of great necessity.
World War II was definitely where a lot of our cool stuff came from. In fact, a lot of it was stolen from the Germans. We still use their technology in our military even.
