Kaariyawasam, I hope, my sarcasm put aside, you know your British colonial history and post colonial history better than anybody or most historians out there. You know what happened to SWRD Banda and all the conspiracy theories we had to swallow about Thalduwe Somarama not having anything to do with the point blank shooting of SWRD. SWRD wasn't even a socialist, but a "neo-liberal", yet that didn't change his fate, regardless of all the progressive reforms he brought into the economy. Then you know what happened to 1970 "republic" government when people of Ceylon became irate about not being able to eat their staple diet of rice and curry every day, and instead were pushed to eat tubers, yams, in addition to getting asked to grow such tubers and yams at home. People didn't give a dog excrement about Sirima's republic promise delivery and the introduction of the Republican day. They kicked out the SLFP and the traditional left by kicking them in the nuts, in which they've never recovered. As a matter of fact, the traditional left got decimated and the SLFP got castrated in 1977. Those were our people. Of course, the Sirima government was to blame not having a clue about how to implement long term progressive policies, but it shows a clear picture about the people of Sri Lanka. I think Anura and the NPP team are playing conservative for the sake of being cautious. it sounds and looks ridiculous for a government that was elected by the ordinary people who got sick and tired of decades of crooked, criminal politicians(AKA bums) when the economy decisively collapsed in 2022, to keep continuing with the National Slave Day celebrations. However, it can also be justifiably interpreted as a cautious and calculated move to not change the sociopolitical status quo via overnight decisions(even though the NPP politicians retorted about such overnight actions over and over during the election campaigns). We know the NPP politicians did not make a promise to get rid of the 4th of February silly "independence" day, but we might have thought it was implied because it was the JVP that founded the NPP. It is my belief that the JVP CC team, are well aware of the ridiculousness of celebrating the 4th February JR's "independence" day. it is quite possible they are more aware of the possibility of the continuing low political literacy of our people as well as the economically grave situation the NPP government has inherited from Mahinda and Ranil. It may look amazing for a political party founded by a clear anti-imperial visionary like Wijeweera to continue the 4th February quasi independence day, but I think the self induced cautious conservative approach to stay alive and the still dire economic circumstances might have influenced their decision to not change the 4th February celebrations. And of course, this is obviously not Wijeweera's JVP, and the NPP is a far cry from the JVP as we knew it prior to 2011 split with the Front Liners. I imagine, desperate circumstances call for desperate measures, is my excuse for this NPP government. Everything you brought up in this video is valid and demands a great deal of thinking. No argument with anything in this video, but i also see and believe it is what it is in this situation. No argument with the pathetic way the NPP government launched the "Clean Sri Lanka" project. It clearly indicated their high level of inexperience and stupidity of their key advisors. "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative emphasized the least important actions among the most important actions of such a project. We need disciplined drivers both in buses and tuktuks of course to reduce the road deaths and horrific injuries due to these bad drivers, buses and tuktuks. But, that's just the tip of the iceberg. NPP government was voted into the parliament to clean up the system. One would logically and justifiably expect such a project to start from the top, not from the bottom(tuktuk drivers, bus drivers). I sympathize with Anura and his team, particularly the JVP CC for having to listen to idiots that they may have inherited from the previous government in government sector everywhere, but it is imperative they get rid of the idiots who advise them and the crooked clan of government officials in every department. Otherwise they will bring down this NPP government in no time. I am certain the self destruction is not in the agenda of this NPP government, but they will have to come out of the cautious and conservative approach sometime this year before it is too late. They need to take a chance on the belief that the people voted them into power with the possibility of having to eat grass for a year or two while they are cleaning up the system in high speed mode. Slow motion mode clean up with not having to eat grass can and will backfire at the NPP government.
Hope our next leader will hv the courage to change independence day to May 22nd. Also make that day the interracial intercultural inter religious celebration day.
As colonists you could enjoy that day as heirs to British occupation. But if I can I will make 2nd of March 1815 as the Day of Remembrance, and wish I could resettle all those brought in by English back in England.

We did not get independence from Britain in 1948 as popularly believed but only received dominion status. ( Note: We did not "get", we "received") We are celebrating a fake independence day perpetrated by the "founding fathers" of the nation. However, to the credit of DS, he did his best to prolong dominion status until the country was strong enough socio-economically, but his son was not that smart and the next one, JRJ was a power-hungry hawk. It was only by a miracle that Ceylon was not annexed to India by the British at the time India was wrestling for independence from Britain. Had Nehru's efforts succeeded, Ceylon would have been annexed to India in 1947 just when plans were afoot to carve out Pakistan out of India. We really have DS to thank for preventing that.

Our own divided Sinhala population have been colluding with and aiding the European colonials since 1505. How our Sinhale infighting and killing each other were conducted before that and from the Polonnaruwa era onwards is yours and anyone's history research and learning. Do not forget how our own Kandyan chieftains and lowland Sinhala people collaborated in Uva-Wellassa youth genocide working along with British colonial soldiers. Do you really believe Portuguese, Dutch and English armies can slaughter large numbers of local innocent Sinhala people( or Tamil people, or the ancient origin natives) without the help of our own people? We were well divided internally with the loss of many Buddhist values and way of life. That was the reason colonials were successful at seizing all the forts, harbours and maintain them that way. India was already heavily divided and complicated, hence the reason for the VOC being able over power by political, cultural and economic manipulation of divide and rule technology. Indians were already divided heavily unlike the Sinhale, but Sinhale was already rapidly going down that path. The reason they couldn't seize the Kandyan kingdom was that the process of internal divisions and cultural degradation was still happening (and still happening). How do you think the Kandyan kingdom produced a good number of pathetic traitorous and stupid chieftains like Ehelepola, Pilimathalawwe, Keppetipola and many more. Why do you think we don't revere Kiwulegedera Mohottala as a national hero, but a confused and clueless traitor like Keppetipola? NPP has no silver bullet answer to our continuing cultural downfall and extinction. They are a Neo liberal political alliance with a cherry picked socialism in cherry picked areas. They can revive the economy, establish a better more orderly version of democracy. That is all. NPP is not Wijeweera founded JVP to suddenly stop 4th February pointless and wasteful slave celebration day. You are going to have to wait for a different political force to come out of the NPP in the future to get the 4th February slave day banned. Noone knows if we have enough self respect left in us to form a modern independent political movement like that. I personally think we have lost too much of our national or cultural pride to have hopes of a cultural uprising anytime soon. Economic and political revival is the area the NPP and their leaders have a clear mind on being able to succeed. For a cultural revival, we either have to wait or it won't happen at all.

I hope, my sarcasm put aside, you know your British colonial history and post colonial history better than anybody or most historians out there.
You know what happened to SWRD Banda and all the conspiracy theories we had to swallow about Thalduwe Somarama not having anything to do with the point blank shooting of SWRD. SWRD wasn't even a socialist, but a "neo-liberal", yet that didn't change his fate, regardless of all the progressive reforms he brought into the economy.
Then you know what happened to 1970 "republic" government when people of Ceylon became irate about not being able to eat their staple diet of rice and curry every day, and instead were pushed to eat tubers, yams, in addition to getting asked to grow such tubers and yams at home. People didn't give a dog excrement about Sirima's republic promise delivery and the introduction of the Republican day. They kicked out the SLFP and the traditional left by kicking them in the nuts, in which they've never recovered. As a matter of fact, the traditional left got decimated and the SLFP got castrated in 1977. Those were our people. Of course, the Sirima government was to blame not having a clue about how to implement long term progressive policies, but it shows a clear picture about the people of Sri Lanka.
I think Anura and the NPP team are playing conservative for the sake of being cautious. it sounds and looks ridiculous for a government that was elected by the ordinary people who got sick and tired of decades of crooked, criminal politicians(AKA bums) when the economy decisively collapsed in 2022, to keep continuing with the National Slave Day celebrations. However, it can also be justifiably interpreted as a cautious and calculated move to not change the sociopolitical status quo via overnight decisions(even though the NPP politicians retorted about such overnight actions over and over during the election campaigns). We know the NPP politicians did not make a promise to get rid of the 4th of February silly "independence" day, but we might have thought it was implied because it was the JVP that founded the NPP.
It is my belief that the JVP CC team, are well aware of the ridiculousness of celebrating the 4th February JR's "independence" day. it is quite possible they are more aware of the possibility of the continuing low political literacy of our people as well as the economically grave situation the NPP government has inherited from Mahinda and Ranil. It may look amazing for a political party founded by a clear anti-imperial visionary like Wijeweera to continue the 4th February quasi independence day, but I think the self induced cautious conservative approach to stay alive and the still dire economic circumstances might have influenced their decision to not change the 4th February celebrations. And of course, this is obviously not Wijeweera's JVP, and the NPP is a far cry from the JVP as we knew it prior to 2011 split with the Front Liners.
I imagine, desperate circumstances call for desperate measures, is my excuse for this NPP government.

No argument with the pathetic way the NPP government launched the "Clean Sri Lanka" project. It clearly indicated their high level of inexperience and stupidity of their key advisors. "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative emphasized the least important actions among the most important actions of such a project. We need disciplined drivers both in buses and tuktuks of course to reduce the road deaths and horrific injuries due to these bad drivers, buses and tuktuks. But, that's just the tip of the iceberg.
NPP government was voted into the parliament to clean up the system. One would logically and justifiably expect such a project to start from the top, not from the bottom(tuktuk drivers, bus drivers). I sympathize with Anura and his team, particularly the JVP CC for having to listen to idiots that they may have inherited from the previous government in government sector everywhere, but it is imperative they get rid of the idiots who advise them and the crooked clan of government officials in every department. Otherwise they will bring down this NPP government in no time.
I am certain the self destruction is not in the agenda of this NPP government, but they will have to come out of the cautious and conservative approach sometime this year before it is too late. They need to take a chance on the belief that the people voted them into power with the possibility of having to eat grass for a year or two while they are cleaning up the system in high speed mode. Slow motion mode clean up with not having to eat grass can and will backfire at the NPP government.
Hope our next leader will hv the courage to change independence day to May 22nd. Also make that day the interracial intercultural inter religious celebration day.

We did not get independence from Britain in 1948 as popularly believed but only received dominion status. ( Note: We did not "get", we "received")
We are celebrating a fake independence day perpetrated by the "founding fathers" of the nation.
However, to the credit of DS, he did his best to prolong dominion status until the country was strong enough socio-economically, but his son was not that smart and the next one, JRJ was a power-hungry hawk.
It was only by a miracle that Ceylon was not annexed to India by the British at the time India was wrestling for independence from Britain.
Had Nehru's efforts succeeded, Ceylon would have been annexed to India in 1947 just when plans were afoot to carve out Pakistan out of India.
We really have DS to thank for preventing that.

How do you think the Kandyan kingdom produced a good number of pathetic traitorous and stupid chieftains like Ehelepola, Pilimathalawwe, Keppetipola and many more. Why do you think we don't revere Kiwulegedera Mohottala as a national hero, but a confused and clueless traitor like Keppetipola?
