I have a Gränsfors Scandinavian Forest Axe. Its a wicked sharp axe and well long story short its never had any issues on it cutting or felling small trees. Yeah its a little on the spendy side but i felt the need to splurge on something like an axe if im just buying the one for right now. Cheep ones will come latter for medial tasks
Great axe review Tac. I also put paracord on my handle for an overstrike. I put a small bead of Gorilla glue at the bottom edge to keep the paracord Tite(like 🐅)...lol
Looks like Tac's been checking out a bit of the Chordwood Challenge. Watch out for more axe related content. Tac might even be taking part of the Chordwood Challenge this year.
@@Mr.Bobcat1776 An interesting fact, I do. Ben's a great resource to learn from if you want to start swinging axes or want some pointers. His uploads are gems to watch for axe related content, so is Kevin's from Kevin's Disobedience.
I have the pack axe which is also the 24” handle that is actually 23”. Council tools makes a solid axe though. Is it better than a Gransfors Scandinavian forest axe, hard to say as they both chop nasty as hell with two completely different grinds. Edge on the council is tougher and less prone to chips for the rougher user. I don’t have any time behind the Velvicut only because I have enough axes.
The reason it’s so expensive is because they use superior steel and a much more meticulous heat treatment. That, and the wood for the handle is chosen from better stock and with much better grain orientation. But even their run-of-the-mill/not as meticulously crafted axes are still *FAR SUPERIOR* to any axes offered by brands like Fiskars, Husky, Estwing, etc., though. They’re like a serious, SERIOUS axe company - and their tools are specifically catered to professional foresters and woodsmen.
Ok, FL here, seriously nice axe but, gotta ask. What is all dat white siht on the ground? Y'all got blow from the sky?? Great vid Tac!!! Ever in Central FL, gotta bushcraft group that would like to camp with u in ONF.
Pimpin you got reflexes like a cat lol I’m pretty impressed with that little axe just pricey but it’s better to have a tool and need it than not have a tool and need one. Looking forward to the chop off
I just got the 24" Council Tool Boys Axe 2.25 lb, sport-utility finish for like $60.... the wood grain is perfect. I sanded, then torched the handle for a cool tiger stripe finish, and linseed oiled that bitch. It's quite the steal at that price. Yeeeeahhh!!
2 pound head is all difference! I have two Velvicut axes but Council Tool! 5160 steel holds a fine edge! Also the 19 inch Pak axe is 5160 steel love all 3! Council Tool Velvicut series are superior to any of European stuff!
hey baby bubba, i got tons of knives and stuff. if you need or want some knives etc, to use in reviews let me know. i will ship a few to you at a time and pay to have them shipped back when you're done:) i can give you a list if ya want.
