ഇൻഡ്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ മുസ്ലിം പള്ളി
ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ആദ്യത്തെ മുസ്ലിം പള്ളിയാണ് ചേരമാൻ ജുമാ മസ്ജിദ്. അറേബ്യയിൽ നിന്നും ഇൻഡ്യയിൽ എത്തിയ ഇസ്ലാമിക പ്രബോധകൻ ആയ മാലിക് ബിൻ ദിനാർ ആണ് ചേരമാൻ മസ്ജിദിന്റെ നിർമ്മാണത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്കിയത്. കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നും ആദ്യം ഇസ്ലാം സ്വീകരിച്ച ചേരമാൻ പെരുമാൾ മഹാരാജാവിന്റെ പേരാണ് ഈ പള്ളിക്ക് നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ചേരമാൻ രാജാവ് മക്കയിൽ പോയി ഇസ്ലാം സ്വീകരിച്ച് താജുദ്ദീൻ അബ്ദുറഹ്മാൻ എന്ന പേര് സ്വീകരിച്ചു. മടക്ക യാത്രയിൽ അറബികളായ മാലിക് ബിൻ ദിനാറും സംഘവും ചേരമാൻ രാജാവിനെ അനുഗമിച്ചു. യാത്രാമദ്ധ്യേ ഒമാനിലെ സലാലയിൽ വെച്ച് ചേരമാൻ രാജാവ് മരണപ്പെട്ടു. മരണത്തിന് മുമ്പ് ചേരമാൻ പെരുമാൾ രാജാവ് നല്കിയ കത്തുമായി തൃശൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ കൊടുങ്ങളൂർ എത്തിയ മാലിക് ദിനാറിനെയും സംഘത്തെയും കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂർ രാജവംശം സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ഇസ്ലാമിക പ്രബോധനത്തിന് വേണ്ട സൌകര്യങ്ങള് ചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെയാണ് ഇന്ത്യയിലാദ്യമായി ഒരു മുസ്ലിം പള്ളി കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂരിൽ നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. അക്കാലത്ത് മഹോദയപുരം എന്നാണ് കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂർ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂരിന്റെ തീര പ്രദേശത്തുള്ള മുസിരിസ് തുറമുഖം വഴിയാണ് അറബികൾ കേരളത്തിലേക്ക് വന്നത്.
The first mosque in India
Cheraman Juma Masjid is the first mosque to be built in India. Malik bin Dinar, an Islamic preacher who came to India from Arabia, led the construction of the Cheraman Mosque. This Mosque is named after Cheraman Perumal Maharaja who was the first convert to Islam from Kerala. King Cheraman went to Makkah and converted to Islam and took the name Tajuddin Abdur Rahman. On the return journey, the Arabs Malik bin Dinar and his party accompanied King Cheraman. During the journey, King Cheraman died in Salalah, Oman. Kodungallur dynasty accepted Malik Dinar and his team who reached Kodumalaur in Thrissur district with a letter given by King Cheraman Perumal before his death and provided necessary facilities for Islamic preaching. That is how a mosque is built for the first time in India in Kodungallur. Kodungallur was known as Mahodayapuram at that time. The Arabs came to Kerala through the port of Muziris in the coastal area of ​​Kodungallur.
