    I have always said that , the way you dressed convey a message to people.
    I've noticed when I wear a suit people think highly of me and when I wear tracksuit and drive my car people think another black young man who is mostly dealing drugs ahahha. I can see that in their look.
    I'm in sales ( insurance) Frank Bettger book changed my life.
    Thank you Douglas

    A large part of how you experience life is how you express life, and clothes are a major way and a very personal way to express what you believe, physically, thru your apparel. Thanks to you both for the vid 👍

    The way you present yourself to the world teaches people how to treat you. #The appearance and the substance.#
    It is much more about adjusting oneself to the current culture to promote one's substance.
    1-Assessment
    2-Starting point. Know where you are.
    3-Know how to can elevate yourself: lift your game.
    4-Move forward.

    This is great! When I started my job I made it a point to dress a level above and watched slowly as everyone around me did. It boosted everyone's confidence!

      So true, after my workshops, it takes just one person to start the ball rolling in the right direction and everyone else follows the lead, almost really as if they always wanted to but were too timid to be the one to initiate.

    Fantastic video, been waiting for this one since Douglas announced it. Gentlemen, lets talk about ties. When I first started as an adviser in Financial Services, I was obsessed with always wearing a tie but I have come to notice that these successful speakers don't tend to wear a tie and that out of the top 3 advisers in my firm, only one of them wears a tie.

    • @janinecarley-james5528
      @janinecarley-james5528 4 роки тому +1

      Very true Wai-Lee, There is a move away from ties to the point they almost feel redundant in most situations, I think a smart shirt and well-cut trousers /jacket can look amazing. A more up-to-date substitute maybe a pocket square, they are currently having a bit of a moment.

      @@janinecarley-james5528 Thank you so much for your reply! I totally agree with you, and I actually ditched my tie and have started to wear a pocket square in replacement of it. It's definitely made an impression with comments like "you look smart", and "are you off to somewhere nice today?". Looking forward to the next instalment of tips!

    How do you dress and present yourself where you have to deal with multiple tiers and business environments in one job? I'm an engineer who does a lot of field work. How do I go from field environment to office environment and dress for success in vastly different business environments often in one day?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @janinecarley-james5528
      @janinecarley-james5528 4 роки тому +3

      Multi-tiers mean multi 'looks'. Don't stress it doesn't have to be a complete change of clothes, little tweaks...sleeves down, sleeves rolled up...'Field' jacket with a smart back-up blazer in your vehicle for the office. A change of shoes also works wonders. Keep your fabrics neutral and crease-resistant. Smart dark jeans that fit well can go nearly anywhere ( with a jacket for the office)

    Thanks for all the great videos, this one included. My question is how do you dress if your "client base" dresses in shorts and T-shirts? How do you remain approachable and relatable while still projecting confidence, professionalism and authority? As a young woman in the agricultural industry this is a big challenge for me.

    • @janinecarley-james5528
      @janinecarley-james5528 4 роки тому +1

      In this instance Catherine, I'd keep it casual smart but still with a feminine twist. A canvas or denim skirt/ easy wear neutral coloured trousers with a feminine cut shirt and comfortable but stylish footwear. Makeup and accessories can go a long way to keep it appropriate/relatable and still make you feel you are dressed appropriately. Think glam- camping and safari looks which sound like they should be the right pitch for your line of industry.

    This is amazing. Any clothing suggestions for some one over weight? I notice that bug tummy stops me from wearing most good clothes. 😔

    • @janinecarley-james5528
      @janinecarley-james5528 4 роки тому +2

      Jackets worn open are your best friend because it splits the area you want to 'visually dissolve and minimise' into three long strips instead of one 'block'. Wearing darker colours (not necessarily black) almond-shaped shoes (not pointy, not block toe) as they elongate the length of legs, dressing monochrome (same colour palette head to toe) also help. Always and I mean always tuck your collared shirts in, counter-intuitive I know but leave them loose and you will look bigger. Good posture is critical, smile, bring your 'A-game' personality......result...... what tummy?

    Question: How can a woman dress when attending 'Black Tie' or gala/screening events when she DOES NOT wear dresses? I'd look worse, come off as phony (doesn't match my personality) wearing dresses, so what can one do? I've avoided such events because of this.

    • @janinecarley-james5528
      @janinecarley-james5528 4 роки тому +1

      I think a woman's cut trouser suit that says 'night event', done with a feminine top maybe in satin or another lux fabric and beautiful shoes looks super sexy, I'd go this route. Look up some images of Diane Keaten or the famous Bianca Jagger trouser suit image- unstoppable!

      @@janinecarley-james5528 Thank you! I've read everywhere (fashion/etiquette articles) that at 'black ties', women must wear gowns to such events, and I'm sooo *not* a gown/dress person. Thank you for your time and suggestions. I'll definitely research that option!

      Hi Byron, I worked in the Seychelles for 3 years so totally understand. In this instance, a cotton ( or any natural fabric) collared shirt and 'smart' shorts or chinos would work beautifully. In the evenings it would be hard to beat an unlined linen jacket and chinos.

    What if your a person who actually hates clothes but needs to look fashionable.
    How does a no shirt and shoes look?
    Real question... I am a cannabis farmer but need to look like i am Buisness. I make good money but I am Stagnant now

    • @janinecarley-james5528
      @janinecarley-james5528 4 роки тому

      Hi Thomas, Casual dressing can be beautifully done, look professional and would be appropriate for your business- compare a sloppy-T-shirt and baggy jeans to a smart casual collared shirt, chinos and smart -casual shoes. Look for some images that inspire and copy the look for yourself. Purchase the right fit and you will be catapulted out of that Stagnant pool:)
